Sera I finished Worth's The Rose of York Crown of Destiny yesterday. This is the second of a trilogy about Richard III if anyone is interested. Now, I'm off to start Mistress of the Vatican, which is new, and looks pretty interesting. I believe it's about a woman's influence on the Pope. I'll provide more details once I get into it.

Happy Sunday, and happy reading all!

Laura (apenandzen) Hi Seth - The Code of the Woosters: Jeeves to the Rescue

Oh - and I am a real Brit Lit fan. So that would def. not be my issue.

Atishay | 1451 comments Hi bnoir, you must read the third part. I assure you its the fastest moving among all other parts.

message 5054: by Jamie (new)

Jamie I finished Eclipse yesterday, so I'm reading Breaking Dawn now.

message 5055: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel García Márquez

García Márquez is a truly gifted writer!

message 5056: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (melitious) I just started The Dead Zone last night. I'm already disturbed. It's been about 6 years since I've read anything by Stephen King (other than On Writing).

Shelby *trains flying monkeys* I'm reading Pillars of the Earth and We need to talk about Kevin. Both of them are so good.

message 5058: by Atishay (new)

Atishay | 1451 comments Carry on Shelby, its an awesome read.

Kat (A Journey In Reading) (ajourneyinreading) Just finished The Bell Jar last night.... this morning I am starting The Book of Air and Shadows.

message 5060: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Finished Death in venice....did I really have to wait till the last sentence to know why it was called Death in Venice??????? Don't ask me what it is about because that would be a too good question!

message 5061: by Jaime (new)

Jaime | 163 comments Finished Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close last night and I loved it...

Started East of Eden this morning...

message 5062: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne

message 5063: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (missfryer) | 453 comments Still reading Crazy Ladies: A Novel

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments starting on Hard Times by Dickens..not thrilled..have to do it for school..i mean i eventually want to read this some day..just not today..especially after coming off of EL&IC..

message 5065: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 175 comments Jamie: I loved Hard Times, but it might have taken me to the second time around. Having to read for class often sucks the fun out of anything.

message 5066: by Andrew (new)

Andrew (sir_reads_a_lot) | 509 comments Just finished Animal Farm, it was okay, nothing too spectacular. I didn't get the hype that surronded the book.

Going to start Just Listen, by Sarah Dessen next.

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments Catherine..yeah..i tend to not enjoy books when i have to read them for class..however..i'm just trying to go into it thinking that i reallyy want to read it..which i do...just not right this minute. haha. hopefully i'll be able to enjoy it.

message 5068: by Cynthia (last edited Nov 09, 2008 02:41PM) (new)

Cynthia (pandoraphoebesmom) | 1826 comments I just finished A Field Of Darkness...not my usual fare but highly interesting and a good story.

I plan to read The Wind Done Gone The Wind Done Gone: A Novel by Alice Randall next.

message 5069: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Seth - thanks for your comments. Maybe I'll give the print version a try. I love English and I love funny so Wodehouse would seem like the obvious choice!

Jamie - I'm a little more than halfway thru EL&IC, and how do you follow that? It would be really hard to choose a book after this one, I think. What a terrific book & unlike anything I've ever read before.

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments i know..i feel like i'm going to be disappointed with most things after that book! I'm hoping that I don't let its wondefulness affect my feelings on other good books! :)

message 5071: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) I tell ya something else, what a classic case of "don't judge a book by its cover". Awful cover IMO, I would have never picked this up without GR. And Guernsey too! Another one I'd have missed for sure.

message 5072: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) I finished Twilight within two days, which is crazy fast for me, but I just couldn't put it down. So when I finished I just had to go to the bookstore and pick up New Moon and Eclipse. I actually started New Moon at the bookstore while waiting for my boyfriend.

message 5073: by Jamie (last edited Nov 09, 2008 04:44PM) (new)

Jamie Jackie - I've had a very similar experience with Twilight (I started it about a week ago and I'm almost done with Breaking Dawn). While I've enjoyed all of the books, my favorite is definitely going to be Twilight - I'm not so sure about Breaking Dawn, though. Unless you'd rather wait until Meyer finishes Midnight Sun (if she does, in fact, finish it at all), I also recommend reading that - I'm sure it will be as good, if not better than Twilight.

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments I absolutely devoured Twilight as well..so much so that I won't let myself start the others until Thanksgiving break bc i have so much work to be done.

message 5075: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10621 comments Mod
Seth, I promise to get to one soon! Really!
And I totally agree with the Audio book thing. For me, reading it is just a better experience. I dont like being read to....unless, of course, its one of my kids doing the reading... ha ha ha

message 5076: by Dorie (new)

Dorie (dorieann) | 430 comments I finished J.D. Robb's "Salvation In Death" and enjoyed it, even though it didn't really progress the series much. I keep hoping she'll include something new like finding out more about Eve's mother, but nope. The dialogue is witty though and I've come to love the characters so I can't stop reading them. I'll now be starting "River of Heaven" by Lee Martin.

message 5077: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Oh I didn't realize there were two Jamie's with two different avi's! Confusing...lol.

Jamie with the blue shirt...I had read that Breaking Dawn was a disappointment. That was why I hesitated in buying it. I had went onto the Stephanie Meyer website and she had released the portion of Midnight Sun that was leaked. Did you read it?

Jamie with the Eiffel Tower:
LOL...I have a paper due tomorrow that hasn't been worked on because I was reading, so I understand. However, I don't have the willpower to resist so I'm just trying to pace myself with New Moon.

message 5078: by Jamie (new)

Jamie Jackie - Yes, I did read Midnight Sun. I loved being able to view the Twilight story from Edward's eyes (well, part of it anyway). I'd still recommend reading Breaking Dawn, but it will likely end up being my least favorite of the series. It is interesting to see what happens next, but it's disturbing and pretty creepy, too.

message 5079: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Awww man...you're not helping my willpower! I have to resist. Must. Finish. Paper.

message 5080: by JG (Introverted Reader) (last edited Nov 09, 2008 09:08PM) (new)

JG (Introverted Reader) I just finished Two for the Dough. I loved Grandma Mazur in this one! I hope she has as large a role in the rest of the series.

I'm starting Tithe: A Modern Faerie Tale now. So far I'm a little-- scandalized? that's not exactly the right word, but it's close enough--by the underage drinking and partying. I'm not so naive that I don't know that it goes on. I was, and generally still am, the original goody-two-shoes. But I work six hours of my twelve hour shift in the ER. I see it all the time! But I think maybe I feel like I'm sanctioning it by reading about it. I don't know. But other than that, so far, so good.

message 5081: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Charity, what did you think about 'Around the world in 80 days'? It was my first Jules Verne story and really liked it.

message 5082: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) Jeane,

I read Around the World in 80 Days when I was about 8 years old and was devouring Great Illustrated Classics on a daily basis. However, this is my first reading of the unabridged version and I am loving the story every bit as much (if not more) as I did when I was a child. And it must be a testament to Verne that I still remember the plot line and the ending 20 years later. :-)

message 5083: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Oh Fiona, what a pity. Really liked it. For me it was kind of mix of adventure-detective.

Has anyone ever heard or read 'Poor white' by Sherwood Anderson? I am wondering if I will start it or not.

message 5084: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments I am reading Breathe My Name by R.A. Nelson, which is a YA book about a girl who is adopted with a childhood past that is heartbreaking. I started this yesterday and I am already on page 200! I am reading this for my book club at home.

message 5085: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Wow, that sounds good Angela!

message 5086: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments It is really good! I am sure I will finish it by tonight.

message 5087: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Not too depressing, I hope. Sounds like a really good premise.

message 5088: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments It is not an uplifting story so far, but I am hooked.

message 5089: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 314 comments Just finished Blindness. It was a good story but I didn't like it (if that makes sense).

I also finished Brother Odd.

Now, I will be reading A Great and Terrible Beauty (EMMA!) and Book of Lost Things

message 5090: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Maybe it'll have a smashout ending that may leave you with a happier heart. I love books you can't put down tho - have you read Extremely Loud yet?

message 5091: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Okay, dcided. Going to start Poor White

message 5092: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments No, it is sitting in my car patiently waiting... and after all of the wonderful things I have been hearing about it, I cannot wait to pick it up! I still have two book here from the library that are due on Friday, so I am not sure if I am going to renew them so that I can get started on EL&EC.

message 5093: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments Just finishing up The Last Lecture going to read two Lives by Vikram Seth next, will read Good Omens after that and just brought Extremly Loud yesterday.

message 5094: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) I don't think I could do Blindness, or the Road, even tho I hear about them here alot. I like my reading to be at least somewhat happy, and some topics are just.not. or something. You'll like AGATB Julianne.

I'm having a hard time deciding what to read after EL&IC, I'm thinking maybe Dead Until Dark.

message 5095: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 175 comments Donna, I really liked The Last Lecture, it was very quick and funny.

I'll be reading The Historian for what seems like quite some time, but I just picked up Netherland to read for class.

Also, re-reading To the Lighthouse for class this week.

message 5096: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Catherine, I hope you get through the firstpart of The historian and then love the rest!!!!!

What is Netherland about? Is it situated in 'The Netherlands' or completely different?

message 5097: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 175 comments Jeane, I've liked the first 130 or so pages of the Historian so I think I'll be pleased. I love Dracula, vampires, history... it seems like a good match.

I only read the first 10 pages of Netherland at the Doctor's office this morning, but it's part of my post-9/11 fiction class and it's set beteween New York and London, I believe. I like the writing style so far, but I'll let you know how it goes.

message 5098: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Great Catherine. I find it such a pity when people don't like a book I really liked. Noticed that the fans/haters of The Historian are divided really clearly. I liked the beginning too,e ven if it sometimes was a bit going on for long. When you get two stories it will get even better!!!!

I wonder why the book is called Netherland???

Kellie, I just finished The Tender Bar and it was terrific. I loved the author's self-depreciating style.

Mrs. Z,

Although I admired what Greg Mortenson did for Pakistani children I did not really enjoy the book.
