Why must the directors change a movie from the book, to make the movie just seem dumb?

TheDigressiveApproach Juliet wrote: "They also didn't even MENTION Kronos!!!!!!!!"

WOW how did they manage to make the movie with no plot at all?! you have to give them credit for that :P

MizziQ lol. true. It takes true talent to be that oblivious.

Juliet I think the only similarities are the titles!

Lauren I know I rated the book a 3, but I rate the movie a 0

Sadly, it's usually because Hollywood assumes people are unintelligent and don't care about continuity or details. They probably assumed that any less prominent mythic figures like Cronos would be too much for our tiny ignorant brains to handle.

It's a shame. The Percy Jackson books are perfectly suited to movies!

Clive Williams I Didn't really want to see the movie .I mean just look at what they did to eragon, harry potter, series of unfortunate events , they just can't rep the books right. so if it was a book first i really don't want to watch it

100% agree with your opinion and your examples.

Clive Williams I wonder do the director even read the books their directing. to get a feel for it . or even see how much their messing it up

TheDigressiveApproach haha I doubt it.

MJ I doublt they read the book before making the movie!!! I agree they totally forgot half the plot and some VERY important charcters to book two!!

Aeyla I think the movie interpretation of this book was the worst I've ever seen. They left out almost everything and PERCY IS SUPPOSED TO BE TWELVE!!!

Aeyla I personally don't mind so much that Annabeth had brown hair, the director is probably looking for good actors, not actors who look like the characters. But they could have at least gotten the ages right and the story line straight.

TheDigressiveApproach I thought the actors were all really crap. I hate Zeus and Poseidon and OH MY GOD HADESSS!!!!! he is HIDEOUS!!

and yeah they all look around sixteen nowhere near twelve

MizziQ in the movie they WERE in highschool. They changed it so thay could get more viewers.

Juliet Venny wrote: "I thought the actors were all really crap. I hate Zeus and Poseidon and OH MY GOD HADESSS!!!!! he is HIDEOUS!!

I KNOW!!!! Annabeth and Grover looked totally different too!

MizziQ I loved them all even if they were 16 in the movie. I don't care a bit. I just hate the way they changed the storyline. Besides it's hard to find 12 year olds who are good actors and not on the Disney channel (gggrrrr)

I do too. I just thought I would mention it.

message 79: by MJ (new) - rated it 5 stars

MJ Which i completely am cool with!:)

MizziQ Okedokee. I actually liked Grover's character a lot in the movie. Even though it didn't go by the book I think he was perfectly casted for the role. It added some more fun to it.

message 81: by MJ (new) - rated it 5 stars

MJ Me too, I thought he was funny, and honestly didn't care what color hair he had or what color skin, either way he was Grover in my opinion

MizziQ I totally forgot how the book described him after watching the movie. He was the one character who could pull out a stupid joke and make you laugh hesterically. :)

message 83: by MJ (new) - rated it 5 stars

MJ Yes, he was funny!!! Honestly when I was reading the book , I never nvisioned him lack, did it ever say he was??

message 84: by MJ (new) - rated it 5 stars

MJ AAAHHHH, messed that up big time!!! I ment invisioned and black

Juliet MJ wrote: "Me too, I thought he was funny, and honestly didn't care what color hair he had or what color skin, either way he was Grover in my opinion"

Grover was my favorite character in the movie, but he was very different from Grover in the book. Not just because of his looks, I just think he acted very different. In the movies he was very confident and tough, but in the books, he was very nervous and jittery.

message 86: by MJ (new) - rated it 5 stars

MJ I can see what you mean , by how he was different

MizziQ I like him "the care free, tough Grover." he seems more like a "protecter" that way. And isn't he supposed to have a mind of a 20 year old?

message 88: by MJ (new) - rated it 5 stars

MJ I have no idea

MizziQ I think that Mr. C said that he was the perfect age to be in middle school cuz' goat people (wtever) age slower then humans and he was 24?... oh well doesn't matter.

Auston Bevins I went and saw this movie in theater.I wasn't was stunned so I decided to watch it a second time.I turned if off after 10 minutes.

I completely understand the whole compressing the plot and stuff. But when you set this movie up for failure, how can you make another one? They did exactly that. By ruining the basic storyline of him finding out who he was, leaving out Clarisse, and not even mentioning the whole 5-book prophecy and stuff.

I don't know,I'm just disappointed the director made it to where another movie can't be made.At least not a good one.

On a personal note I'm not a fan of Annabeth not being blonde and that the chick looked like 17 not 12.And that "Grover" was just...not the right personality I think.

MizziQ That's cool... I think mostly people hate it for diffrent reasons. I think if you've read the book then their isn't much conterversy as if you disliked it or not.

I COMPLETELY agree

message 95: by Kt (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kt If I watched the movie without thinking about the books and just thought of it as a similar idea then the movie was good, but I love the books so I didn’t really get what I expected. Oh well...

message 96: by MJ (new) - rated it 5 stars

MJ lol! When I saw the movie I told my family(after complaining a lot) that if I hadn't read the book then I would like it more, but i read the book and it wasn't good knowing what really happen!

Isabel Vazquez I agree with what everyone is saying. She should have been blonde, for crying out loud. Percy was great though, and so was Luke!!
The camp was off too. His cabin was OPEN and HUGH!! I never pictured it that way. Didn't it have a fountain? It was alot to add to a movie, but I would have sat and watched it :) had they made it more like the book.

TheDigressiveApproach All the actors were pathetic and Luke and Percy were both a bit too cheeky for my liking.

I can't wait for Son of Neptune!!!!

Juliet Did anyone notice how different the Capture the Flag scene was? That was my favorite part of the book, and they completely changed it!
