Why must the directors change a movie from the book, to make the movie just seem dumb?

It's unfortunate that this happens with so many amazing books being turned into movies. I have to admit I was never fully satisfied with the Harry Potter movies other than the first two. Sometimes the books are just too much for producers to handle! But we shouldn't let the awful movie tarnish our love of Percy Jackson and the Olympians-- to be honest, the thing that bothered me the most was that the main characters looked too old and Annabeth looked nothing like she was described.

My teacher made us write an essay on how different the book and the movie are. She read the book out loud to most of the classes (not mine. the advanced class had to read it on our own.) and when we were done she showed us the movie.

I do to but sometimes I wish that I could be read to. My mom will but now I read too much for her to keep up. lol :) I have moods. Sometimes I want to go to school and other times I'm perfectly happy homeschooled. Go figure. :)

I used to be home-schooled for 4 years but I missed my friends. Now my mom is putting me back in private school.
I liked the movie, but it was so far from the book! The movie was good, but they messed it up from the book so much that they probably can't make another movie. Or if they do it won't be hardly like the book at all.
It would be better if they didnt use the name Percy Jackson so they could make a movie that relates to the book and still have that movie because it was OK but not great like if they were to make it based off the book...
Actually the next one is coming out in 2012. But I see what you mean. Every change they made with the movie was a step backwards from the AWESOMENESS of the books.

exactly my piont! if they hadnt used percy's name it would have been a good movie. but they used his name and tried to base it off the book but that failed miserably
okay..the movie skipped the BEST parts..they just skipped all Percy's journey to the Underworld..it was just Medusa and the Hotel thing and that was it...What about the oracle and the fight with Ares and CLARISSA?
