Kedu/Halo Kitten,1) Name is Ezinwayi, from Texas.
2) First time I listened to an audiobook was 5 months while making my 50 min drive to work. My husband always raved about audiobooks, but I thought it was for lazy people who didn't want to read--but wanted someone to read to them. So I got 2 books on my i-tunes:Daughter of Smoke and Bone and Guilty Pleasures.
I started with Daughter of Smoke and Bones and it wasn't a great experience. I couldn't figure out if it was me and my wandering mind, or if it was the book. Whatever it was, I didn't enjoy the experience or the book. Heck, I wandered off a lot, so I am not even sure what the book was about. I decided that audio wasn't for me. So I abandoned that idea.
2 1/2 months ago, I had to attend a wedding out of town. While I was driving, everyone including husband was asleep. I was tired of the radio, so I decided to try the Anita Blake book on my i-pod. It held my attention immediately, it had sacarstic wit and I could follow really well. So that was a great experience. Now, because we are moving, I couldn't justify curling up on my couch with my kindle, when I should be packing. Audiobooks allowed me to still "read" while I pack.
My new home will be a 47 min train ride to work each way, so I will have ample time to listen or to read my kindle.
Today, I plan to start my 10th audio book.
I want to sign up for audible, but I am unsure. I can go through an audiobook a week, so I need more than 1-2 credits a month. I need more like 5 credits a month. I don't know. My library has some books, but they never have all of them on audio. For instance, they have Mercy Thompson series audiobooks 1-3,5. I have been waiting a month for audiobook# 4, so I broke down and got the e-book for my kindle. I am still new, so I joined her to learn more.
3) Favorite Audiobook: The Host, which was read by Kate Reading as well as Lorelei King who read Moon Called (Mercy Thompson series).
But I have only listened to 9 books.

Hi Ezinwayi. I think you will find this group very helpful when it comes to audiobooks. I certainly have in the short time I've been a part of the group.
As far as Audible goes, after having the 2 credits per month deal for a couple of months when I first joined, I realized that I would be needing a lot more credits so I purchased the membership where you get 24 credits all at once and a one year membership. The credits end up costing about $9.50 each that way. Several times during the year I was offered extra credits, and then if you also take advantage of all of their regular sales, then you may end up like me with more books than you can listen to. It is a pretty big expense all at once, but if that's something you can do, then the cheaper price and access to more credits is worth it.
I hope you find a plan that works for you, and keep finding great audiobooks to listen to.

Welcome Ezinwanyi! I'm thinking about recommendations for you and have two questions. Do you prefer drama to humorous? Looks by your choices that you do. And do you enjoy romance as a primary storyline or do you prefer it to be secondary or left out altogether?
I have the Platinum membership at Audible - two credits per month. I seriously watch every sale and take advantage of nearly every one. However, I have considered the plan Angie mentioned and I think it's the best. Now if I will only commit to the one time expense...
Hi. I am Ellen from Atlanta.I have listened to audio books since they were on cassettes. I was going to indulge myself in a three-month sub to Audible, but that was almost a year ago and I am still going strong. I always buy the extra three credits and I always get tons of the sale books. My husband thinks I am quite insane.
I tend to me more of a lurker than an joiner, but I just wanted to say hi so I don't feel quite so stalkerish.
Hi Ellen!So glad you decided to let us know a little about you. I bet we listened to many of those same books in cassette format. Remember the days of feeling so modern with a light (now very heavy) cassette tape player hanging on your belt? I used to run with one of those!
And my husband is finally used to my audiobooks excesses although he did ask when I accidentally purchased those 3 extra credits twice this last time around. Didn't know you could do that but I kept them all.
One time the system let me purchase the three extra credits during one promotion. I thought maybe it was because I promptly used the first three, but I've never been able to since. ;-)I'm reluctant to spend a credit on a book I've already read in print, so I love the $4.95 sales where I always find a few books I've either been wanting, or have read in print and would love to listen to as well.
Welcome Ellen! My husband is used to my book buying, in print, on ebook, or audiobooks. He's very patient! It helps that he buys almost as many as I do, though. ;-)
You know Carrie? I thought it very odd as I spent none immediately (it happened within minutes) AND it took me to 9 credits! I keep thinking they are going to discover it and take it back. :)
Welcome Ellen! I too have been an audiobook-fanatic from early on (early '90s). I didn't have to walk up hill both ways in the snow to get them from the library but I was a pretty addicted Books-On-Tape and Recorded-Books renter who shared books with manager and fellow car-poolers during my month long rentals.You should consider trying to get your hubby into audiobooks if you listen to other genres as well as romance. My evil plan on addicting hubby worked very well for my urban fantasy/mystery/thriller books. Though as a warning - I will NEVER hear the end of giving hubby one of the Sookie Stackhouse books where she has sex with Eric and talks about how cold his cock was. Up until that book though, he enjoyed the series. It has still been worth effort to get him interested in the audios. NOW I can justify spending about $600+/year on audiobooks as a JOINT entertainment fund. We don't go out to movies so ... that's my story and I'm sticking to it!
Personally, I LOVE listening to books that I've also read. It allows me to listen to them when falling asleep or working on something mentally taxing. My brain can hear the audio but if I fall asleep or become too focused on work, I can fade out and still know what's going on when I'm aware of the audiobook again.
My DH is a nonfiction guy the whole way, Vic. Not even worth the bother. He is a big book buyer, though, and he understands the concept. I buy a lot of books but never new and for rarely more than $1.50 so he really doesn't care. He loves his music but since I am tone deaf, we don't share that, either. Amazing we have been together 25 years, huh. Bet Me is the book I listen to to calm me down, go to sleep. I have probably listened to it 25 times in six months. I love the sleep function on my Audible app. But I do probably have 40 books or so I haven't listened to yet so I need to rein it in.

3) Fav authors.. hum.. There's a lot of them, now I'm hocked up on paranormal romance. So basically everything that doesn't suck in that area. But one of my favorites was KMM Fever series and Phil Gigante with his oh so sexy voice as J.Barrons.

Hi:DMy name is Louise, and I live in Aarhus (Århus), Denmark.
I don't know if it counts as an audiobook, but back in the 80's when I was a little girl, my grandmother got a lot of those 'read along' disneý books with cassets for me to listen to and read the book at the same time. My parents have told me that Alice in Wonderland was my favorite, and it was driving them mad listening to it constantly... wups.
But other than that I only started listening to audiobooks in June this year. I got a new job with a 3 hour commute. I started with a book that I've been wanting to read for a long time, but because of the almost 1000 page, just couldn't get started on... Outlander.... And from that I just continued with that series... until I got to 'A Breath of Snow and Ashes'. I want to listen to it, but because I live i Denmark I can't... No Publishing rights in Denmark:( And there are a lot of books that I can't get because of where I live, which sucks.
I can't really say that I have a favorite yet... Because of the Outlander series, I've been going through a lot of Highlanderbooks. But I can say that Devina Porter has been my favorite narrator so far.
Since this is my first post in this group, I would just like to apologize in advance for any misspellings, grammatical errors ect. English is not my first language, but I hope people will understand what I'm writing anyway;P
Hello there! I'm Fran and I live in lovely New England, USA. A friend got me hooked on Audible a few months back and my work commute hasn't been the same since. I've always been a fan of romance, particularly paranormal and historical. I've recently starting reading contemporary romance titles because I'm writing one. My favorite author right now is Robyn Carr. I've read several of her Virgin River series and they are old fashioned, feel good romances. Writing quality is excellent with just the right amount of "sizzle"!
Would love to get to know other romance enthusiasts and share notes. Looking forward to being a part of this forum.

The only time I read in danish is when the author is danish. Danish translations usually suck. So most of the time I read in english and always listen in english. There isn't all that many danish audiobooks out there anyway.
Hello all! My name is Stephanie. I live in Syracuse, NY. I am married with 2 children, I work full time, and attend school full time. I do quite a bit of driving, so I have been listening to my Audiobooks in the car. I just started listening to Audiobooks about 2 weeks ago, and am taking full advantage of my college library. Last week I finished "The Virgin's Lover" written by Philippa Gregory and narrated by Davina Porter. I am now listening to "Bone Harvest" (Claire Watkins Series) by Mary Louge and narrated by Joyce Bean.
My favorite authors are Ali Cross, Dean Koontz, and James Patterson. I do not have a favorite narrator yet.
Hi Stephanie, Glad you joined the group. I am a newbie to the group as well, and have only been listening to audiobooks for about 6 months. My 40 minute commute has gotten so much shorter!
I just listened to the first book of the Odd Thomas series by Dean Koontz. I loved it. The narrator did an excellent job. But a narrator, I've learned, can make or break an audio book. The narrator for Fifty Shades of Grey was so Valley girl I wanted to strangle her.
I also am uncomfortable listening to hot-n-heavy romances narrated by male voices. Just doesn't sit well with me.
The narrator for two of Christopher Moore's books, Sacre Bleu and Fool (through Audible), really brings those books to life. I've had a couple of friends who have tried to read Sacre Bleu in print and didn't think it was half as hilarious as I did listening to it. I'm thinking the narrator takes lots of credit here.

I'm mad about audiobooks and listen to them as I drive all over New England where I live and work and visit friends and family. Sometimes I think I should live in my car!
But since I started listening to audiobooks while I drive two years ago--I actually look forward to my 2-hour solitary drives to wherever.
I just listened to a J.D. Robb today--Chaos in Death--and I've been crossing over from thrillers to romantic suspense.
I'd appreciate some recommendations--I love my characters with a sense of humor!

I love listening to Audio books during my ride..helps me forget the beeping traffic and a*hole drivers around me... I am a huge fan of Romance books...and yes I had read 50 shades ;)
Hi! I'm Taylor. I'm Texas born but live in southern Ohio on the banks of the Ohio river...go Bucks!I have been listening to audiobooks for about 10 years now, starting with the Harry Potter books. I couldn't seem to stay awake to read the series and my girls (very young back then) wanted to see the movies so I wanted to check them out. I started with CDs and found that very frustrating...unable to start back where I had stopped listening. Then came the ipod...I thought I had died and gone to heaven. I love reading of any kind but being able to do things around the house while listening to a book is fantastic.
I started in paranormal/romance but quickly moved to mystery/romance.You read what you need...ha! My favorite authors are Diana Gabaldon (Outlander series is the greatest love story of all time)Sandra Brown, Megan Hart, Laura Dane, Beth Kery, Robyn Carr, J.R. Ward, Linda Howard, Jo Davis, Jill Shalvis, Susan Mallery, Suzanne Brockmann, Nicholas Sparks, etc... I have read over 400 books and most of them on audio.
My favorite narrators are of course Davina Porter (the best)Jim Dale, Jim Frangione, Therese Plummer, Dick Hill, and my favorite male narrator is Victor Slezak.
My love of reading and storytelling finally has compelled me to write my own novel. I am about to launch my first novel My Prison Without Bars...The Journey of a Damaged Woman to Someplace Normal by Taylor Evan Fulks on Amazon and Kindle. This is a novel based on a true story, but not the genre I wish to try my hand in...I want to write mystery romance, and hopefully one day someone will listen to my book being read by one of my favorite narrators.

I mark my audio listening and ratings of my books on my profile book shelf, I've probably averaged close to a hundred audio books this year. I borrow from the library for the vast majority of them.

Greetings and salutations, I'm Shari in Salt Lake City UT. I've been listening to audiobooks for almost a year. My ADHD makes it hard for me to sit and read a book so I gave audiobooks a try and I'm completely hooked. I'm always looking for new books so decided to join a group :) My favorite books so far have been the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost, the Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin (read by the awesome Roy Dotrice), and the Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare. I'm currently reading the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan, Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman, Vampire Empire by Clay and Susan Griffith, and Pleasure Unbound by Larissa Ione. I love the paranormal romance genre as well as steampunk and epic fantasies.

Hi Krissie, my name is Judy Griffith Gill. I'm new too. I'm doing this while my dh is out grocery shopping. Gotta love those househusbands! I've been listening to Audible.com books for years, too, and it's my favorite way of reading. I have Sandra Brown, Jennifer Crusie (I've MET both of them!) Elizabeth Lowell, Catherine Coulter, Fern Michaels, and a bunch of other favorites on my iPad right now. I listen to all sorts of books, but romance is right up there in my top-reading list.
Right now, I'm in Costa Rica, where we spend half of each year in our little house near the Caribbean Sea. I lie in my hammock and listen to all those great books. Come April, I'll be back on the coast of British Columbia, where our family lives, and I'll still be listening to books, though probably on my phone because it's easier to stuff in a pocket when I'm gardening or boating, or just out walking.
I'm really excited about finding this group and happy to be a part of it.

Hi, I'm Jackie and I'm an audiobook-aholic. I got hooked when a relative gave me a copy of "Labyrinth" by Kate Mosse on cassette. I found I could listen and walk/jog at the same time. Now I have a mp3 player and I listen whenever I'm in the car, doing chores, knitting or waiting in doctors' offices. I love our library's audiobook service.
I indulged in the guilty pleasure of paperback romances once in a while for years as a young woman. I am no longer a young woman and I have been a Nora Roberts fan for a few years. A huge step up IMO! I am on number 28 of the "In Death" series - all on audio. I also listen to fantasy and some bestseller fiction. I always seem to come back to Nora or similar when I need a good romance fix.

Hi! I'm Kimberly, living in Florida. I've *just* discovered audio books and love them. My experience with them had been limited to picking one up at a Cracker Barrel restaurant during a road trip a long time ago. (The only place I'd ever seen them!) Boy, have times changed. I also told my friend about them; she now enjoys them and looks forward to more. She'd never heard one before and immediately loved it.
I'm Dee from Wisconsin. I travel for a living. In May while working in Australia, my daughter came to visit and left me her MP3 player with 11 Sookie Stackhouse books. I was sure I was going to hate listening, I can read a book in less time. The MP3 player sat in my purse for 2 weeks and then I moved....now I had an hour drive to work every morning. So I gave it a go. I have since joined Audible and have listened to at least 40 books. My first thought when I got into that book was I could drive forever, and do laundry, and cook, and shop, and..... I do still read a lot more than listen but now I can do 2 books a day.I really don't have any favorite authors or narrators. I like paranormal and si-fi.

Welcome to all new members! I spend about $600+ USD per year in my audible membership to get audiobooks for me and hubby in a year and love hearing about more people getting into audiobooks. (Of course that could be seen as selfish since the more people listening translates to more audiobooks becoming available and more options for me!). Yay to audiobooks!
Hi , may name is Maria I am Polish ( 56) ,but live in Ireland for 10 years. I came here for my grandson who is half Irish. I love to read. At the beginning of audiobooks use to learn English.(At my age, it was not easy - still I make many mistakes - the most difficult for me is the English spelling). Listening audiobooks, at the same time reading it really helped me in learning English.Kind regards Maria

Adormina I'd follow my grandchildren anywhere as well. :) What a great idea for expanding your knowledge of a new language, you get to be thoroughly entertained by the book while learning at the same time. I hope you find some new titles to add to your favorites here.
