message 3: by Juli (new)

Juli | 37 comments Second favorite to Phantom of the Opera... my favorite thing about it is that I can be listening to it, and know exactly what would be happening at a specific point in the song in the movie w/ Gerard Butler

1412 (monkeyseemonkeydo) How true.

Anna (SylviaGrant) Anyone here like "All I ask of you"?

Christina Williams | 17 comments Oh the passion of this song is why you must love opera. The intensity so so strong, you want to see/hear more.

I LOVE THAT SONG!!!!!!!

message 8: by Gemma (new)

Gemma | 71 comments Well, the obvious thing to say about PONR is that it's intense, but you're also forgetting passionate, fiery, and super sexy--without being over-the-top. I still won't let my dad listen to it, though!

Anna (SylviaGrant) I adore that song!!!! It's so beautiful, moving yet suggestively different from the other songs.

message 10: by Gemma (new)

Gemma | 71 comments It is indeed, and the last bit with the Phantom singing All I Ask Of You is just plain heartrending. It doesn't matter who is singing, there's always something about every actor's performance that gives me chills.

Emily (elly2009) | 1 comments I love how she doesn't show that she is scared that she might get hurt while she is singing. I also love how phanotm thinks he gets everything he wants.

message 12: by Christina (new)

Christina Williams | 17 comments I think my absolute favorite line in the song is "the bridge is crossed so stand and watch it burn". Gosh, you can totally see it. Brilliant.

message 13: by Gemma (new)

Gemma | 71 comments Oh, that's one of my favorite lines! I love the imagery in the lyrics all throughout, but that one line always gives me goosebumps.

I love that line too! I love all of it tbh. Lol but if I had to pick one line it would be "Our games of make believe at at an end." I always re-wind so I can listen to it again!

message 16: by Gemma (new)

Gemma | 71 comments If I have to pick just one line to listen to again, it would be "What raging fire shall flood the soul?" Yowza!

Well, actually it depends on who's singing it...if it's Gerard Butler, then definitely that line. If it's Michael Crawford, then the line would be "What sweet seduction lies before us?" If it's John Owen-Jones, the line is "What warm unspoken secrets will we learn beyond the point of no return?" Holy moly. I can't listen to certain renditions when I'm standing up, as my knees tend to give out from underneath me. LOL

Listra (museforsaken) | 9 comments Love the duet so much. It's perhaps the sexiest and most sensual duet of the musical. I like the line, "Past all thoughts of right or wrong, no use resisting." It's so much like, "Close your eyes and surrender to your darkest dream" in MotN.

And I like the movie interpretation of not making GB hide his face under a cloak (which happens in many other versions)

Amen! Of course, that means we're stuck with the deformity continuity error throughout the scene, but...I can cope with that so long as we get to see the rest of that beautiful face. :)

And I can safely say PONR is the sexiest, most sensual duet I've ever heard, period. (Though "Dangerous Game" from Jekyll and Hyde is a close contender...)

Yes the song is phenomonail. It's one of the only songs I like Christine almost as much as the Phantom. I love basicly all of it apart from the kind slow bit aat the start. When It gets to the first chorus waheyyy! I hate the under the cloak bit. Its a good Idea but I find it so boring. I love how they do it in the film!

MoTN is the seduction; PONR is the execution.

Paisley Stewart (paisleyswanstewart) | 5 comments Having seen the film at least 100 times, and the stage play 3 times (not counting the 25th anniversary with Ramin), I must say that I like both versions of the song for different reasons. I love the film version of PONR because it shows raw, magnetic attraction between these 2 people, and because Gerard Butler is sexy and tragically sad at the same time. But I also love the stage version because it is full of mystery and depending on who plays the role-it can be just as sexy or even sexier than the movie. In either case, it is a glorious song that takes my breath away every time!

Amen, and amen. Earl Carpenter (my favorite Phantom, in no small part because he sang to me -- there, I said it) has the most amazing and subtle gestures during the hooded/cloaked portion of PoNR.

Resolution is not great, but you can get an idea here: http://phantomphan.buzznet.com/user/v...

I would have left another comment, but these two summed it up for me perfectly. :)

Wow, thanks! His voice is terrific. I'm not a fan of the Christine but I'm hoping that's just the resolution...

O.O me too...you wonder whether to take it literal, or the meaning he wants the audience to hear...O.O
