Tom I was a fan of Stephen King for a while, way back when he was first hitting the bestseller lists, until his work took a decided turn for the bloated, and looking back I can see that this novel was the first danger sign, the first indication that King had some very bad habits that were going to get out of hand.

Big, boring, bloated, and full of King's worst habits. It seems to think that it has something serious to say about EVIL and LIFE, and all that, but it never really gets around to saying it.

Anyone know what a first edition of this load of crap is going for these days?

Sandi (sandikal) I started it but didn't finish it. I didn't see any point.

Sandi (sandikal) Aw, Fiona, you might like it. A lot of people did.

Tom Aw, Fiona, you can always use it to pack dishes, or light fires. It makes a handy blunt instrument if you need to kill off some cockroaches.

Stephanie Ick. The Stand. I wrote a posting about Stephen King and how he is one of my most loathed authors. People go nuts over this hunk of garbage and I don't get it. I read it all, but I didn't like it. Stephen King. Ha.

Manuel | 19 comments King is not for everyone. I started to read is Dark Tower books but I couldnt read more than a few pages without falling asleep. I figured it would get better and I kept trying to plow through it for about a week.

The Stand is not my fav, but much more interesting than I thought it would be.

I thought it was weird to have Boulder as the new cradle of civilization for the survivors.

Why is Boulder mentioned in so many novels as the place civilization picks up the pieces? I kept thinking, its either a really really strange coincidence or an inside joke from King.
