Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Fran, that's good enough for me. Maybe if it were an easier geography location we'd be more picky, but this one seemed tough to me.

Thanks Penney! (so this is the first thing you did when you got back from Cancun?)

Penney (pschoener) | 3553 comments Lol! It took me a minute to figure out what to do with myself once the pool, beach and mojitos suddenly disappeared ;-)

message 54: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments Penney that should be easy - more short stories abt santa's sons!!!

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Diane, I would put that as a solid #1. Even though they end up in the past, it is still with a contemporary knowledge and frame of mind.

*Blush* I guess that blame falls on me. Though I still like zombie awareness month.

message 57: by ErinsAlterEgo (new)

ErinsAlterEgo | 32 comments I have a few suggestions for 8:2 and 8:3 as well as 9:1. For 8:2 (set in the future) - The 'In Death' series by JD Robb. Awesome. For 8:3 - Steamed by Katie MacAlister. Fits all the criteria. A person from the present gets thrown into the past, and into a Steampunk romance.
For 9:1 - Plum Lucky by Janet Evanovich. Just plain FUN!

Not on you, Kami. I pick the geography category for the monthly challenge. So you absolve yourself. : )

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments BLAME YZ!!!! ;)

message 60: by Joanne (new)

Joanne | 195 comments Would a book set in an 'Amish community' with blossom on a tree on the cover be OK for category 7.3?

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Joanne, I knew this was going to come up when I made the category. After talking it over with the local librarian, we determined the answer is yes. Absolutely.

message 62: by Joanne (new)

Joanne | 195 comments Whew, thanks Jim.

I have decided to give myself an extra challenge this time and try for my orignal list of level 1's and 2's and also to go for as many level 3's as well. Not sure if I will make all 20 books though (especially as I don't speak/read hindi or any other dialect LOL)

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments I read Don Quixote in Spanish in college. That's the most I've ever done in another language. And let me tell you, that was SLOW and PAINFUL. But for some of our members, they would think that was super easy. that's the reason for having so many levels and choices. Something for everybody.

message 64: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments lol...i remember attempting to read something in french...i debating getting one of the erotic romance books from ellora's cave that they have in spanish, and getting a dictionary and going from there

message 65: by Vi (new)

Vi | 2795 comments Ah, Jim, some categories seem very impossible! Case, 9.3: a horror book with 'luck' in title. Gah. Any suggestions where I can search books by genre AND title? No such luck in amazon :( (Now I'm obsessed with the challenge, trying to find books to fit! Your fault, Jim)

message 66: by Joanne (new)

Joanne | 195 comments Ritu, I am having the same problem.

I have been told that Lady Luck by Jane Toombs is a horror so will probably go with that unless I find something else. Horror isn't my genre, never read one in my life so it will be interesting to see what it is like. :)

message 67: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments you could look at the horror shelf and maybe see if someone has shelved something...

message 68: by Vi (new)

Vi | 2795 comments I did. Just did not find any. My search will continue. There are 2 more days before May begins..

message 69: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments I used a thesaurus and looked up other words that could symbolize luck...I think i'm using chance for this one, because to me lots of luck and fortune rests on a person taking a chance...in gambling, in life

message 70: by Vi (new)

Vi | 2795 comments If Jim's ok with it, sure. Finding chance should be relatively easier, I hope..

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments I'm sure there's one out there. I just haven't found it yet. Sure I made the categories, but that doesn't mean I have any idea what I'll be reading yet.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Ritu, I'll even take something relating to luck or bad luck. something like 'Roll the Dice', 'Dead Man's Hand', 'Spin the Wheel', 'Rabbit's Foot', or something like that. (I don't know if any of those are even books let alone horror BTW.)

Or you could read a Friday the 13th book (those are definitely horror related and actually exist)

message 73: by Vi (new)

Vi | 2795 comments Yeah, I do have quite a number of Stephen King's books on my TBR. But when you throw down a gauntlet like that, it makes one determined to do so esp when it is horror. Ergo, my (annoying) questions..

The book I'm reading now might fit into the category for 'luck.' It's called Superstition by Karen Robards. I hope it works for you Ritu and Delicious Dee!

Yeah, it is horror, mystery, suspense and I'm thinking it is going to have romance. I'm only 100+ pages into it. It is about a serial killer coming back after 15 years. The first chapter reminded me of the opening scene of the movie Scream!

message 77: by Lynne (last edited Apr 29, 2011 09:44AM) (new)

Lynne (lovetoreadgal) | 1182 comments I have to admit to being completely out my element with the horror genre. (I'm a COMPLETE chicken!) So, I looked up the definition, wikipedia horror definition. I especially thought the links to the different horror awards might help people find horror titles. I haven't decided if I'm up to going with a scary title. I'm not sure my budget can take the added electricity bill from sleeping with all the lights on!

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 1058 comments 3.2. Read a book whose author, setting, AND characters are from India.

Just found this: The Mango Season by Amulya Malladi

message 80: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments The Mango Season was a pretty good read, I read it last year

message 81: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Hey Jim - *tongue in cheek* the book I'm reading for 6.3 Plane crash The Star King has 'eject, eject, eject'! Can I substitute that for 'mayday, mayday, mayday'? LOL.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments You get the plane crash, but they actually have to say 'mayday, mayday, mayday'.

message 83: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 4477 comments Question, Jim!

I just read a medieval book where a religious colony was burned at the stake (men, women and children) by the Templars. The book is a romance so it's obviously not about them but they are pivotal to the plot and there's a lot of talk about them, relics, etc.

Can I use that for 7.2?

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments D.G., I had envisioned the piece taking place in the colony. However, since I also wrote that mostly as a tongue in cheek joke, I suppose we can't take it too seriously. I suppose the family barbecue certainly qualifies.

message 85: by Penney (new)

Penney (pschoener) | 3553 comments ROFL Jim!
Holy crap D.G., what are you reading?

message 86: by D.G. (last edited May 14, 2011 01:10PM) (new)

D.G. | 4477 comments Thanks, Jim. :)

The book is called My Beloved. :)

message 87: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12284 comments Hi Jim, got a question for you-

Can I use A Lot Like Love for 5.2? The hero is supposed to go to NY for his Mother's birthday party and ends up entagled in a case and can't go. He doesn't want to miss her party and endure her wrath, but can't help it. He disappoints her but ends up making it up to her in the end. Does it fit well enough into the "going to seek Mom" category?

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments I don't know Fran. That's stretching it pretty far. If you come up against it at the end I suppose you can use it. But if you find a better substitute in the meantime, that would be better.

message 89: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12284 comments No problem Jim- I will keep my BDSM choice. I'll make sure to fit it in before the end of the month.

message 90: by Lindy (new)

Lindy (lindylee) | 260 comments I forgot to post my 10:

3. India - character: Osbourne, Mary Pope A crazy day with cobra's

4. Mexican or 5 words: Anaya, Rudolfo A. Bless me, Ultima
Osborne, Mary Pope Blizzard of the Blue Moon

5. Mom's Day: Ada, Alma Flor Mama Goose

6. Shipwreck: Bunting, Eve Pirate Captain's Daughter

7. Flower on Cover: Roberts, Nora Sullivan's Woman

8. Future, alternate relities: Stephen Vincent The Devil and Daniel Webster

9. Luck, Fortune. Thriller: Harrison, Kathryn Whie they Slept

10. Reader's Choice: Cather, Willa My Antonia
