Erin (AyreJohnston) | 30 comments I'm up!! Baby's in bed, Toddler doesn't have a concussion (which kept me out last time). Now for a glass of wine! And let the proceedings begin!

Will Rossy be joining us?

Erin (AyreJohnston) | 30 comments ok, great. I thought the book was fantastic. I especially enjoyed the references to color throughout, enhancing her photography passion.

Erin (AyreJohnston) | 30 comments I think the town was definitely a character of the book. The ghosts haunting it were a flavor that enhanced that character. I loved Annie's joy over her husbands angry ghost. I would have liked to see a little more clarification on which others were ghosts, like the angry woman as well. I wonder how many others she saw that were ghosts but not angry.

Erin (AyreJohnston) | 30 comments I definitely thought the Vince relationship was going to blow sky high with being related. I was surprised it didnt' happen. The Sam scenario was predictable and explained quite a bit. However Annie blew me out of the water in surprise.

The bad spirits thing, I thought would turn out to be more.... more prevalent, malevalent... All I saw was Annie's joy over her dead husband. The bad spirits weren't active in the world of the living other than sending out feelings of anger and causing dread in the 'sensitives.'

Do you think the 'commune' was still active but under a different name (minus the polygamy?)

Erin (AyreJohnston) | 30 comments I would definitely visit all this town! Especially the cooking school and the 100 Breakfasts Resteraunt. I'm completely going to write down those recipes and try some this weekend. The hollandaise sauce is exactly how I do mine but I microwave it and wisk every 15 seconds, saves oh so much time. I have a large garden in my backyard and I begged my husband for chickens and a coop for christmas. My mother in law calls me a young hippy.

Actually, did you notice, the gaurd, was one of the Nathan brothers that started the commune.

And I thought Annie was very well filled out for a side character. Her interaction with Natalie and experience of thievery (Hey was that a reflection of the town's character: Los Ladrones?) was extremely valuable to the plot and development of Natalie's issues.

Loved the silent trek up the mountain at the end.

Erin (AyreJohnston) | 30 comments What farm did you work on? Where was it?

Erin (AyreJohnston) | 30 comments Definitely a romance but not hardcore. Not General Fiction in my book but I can see how many many people would classify it as that. I sometimes can't find many books that I would think of as romance because they are sci fi or fantasy or paranormal. I guess I classify any book with descriptive sex as a romance. I think the romance part was the part I focused upon and was ready to see how it ended, even more than Tessa's memories. I enjoyed Natalie's development and relationship with Tessa second best.

Erin (AyreJohnston) | 30 comments I felt like the dogs were a reference to humans being pack animals and that commune was basically a 'pack'. It's a weird parallel but relevant.

How about the priest. I thought he was a major force toward reconciliation for almost every single character.

Erin (AyreJohnston) | 30 comments The fact that Pedro walked through a shattered pelvis baffled me. I have no idea what to think of that and the author really didn't expound upon it. There was one tiny mention at the end when Vince asked Tessa if he'd been hit by a car and she sidestepped the question. Not sure what that meant...

Erin (AyreJohnston) | 30 comments hm, nothing really comes to mind. if I think of anything later, I'll post something up. Thanks for talking about the book with me! I started it on sunday or monday and didn't think I'd finish it by tonight. Got engrossed last night and couldn't put it down. Have you read any others by O'neal? Any recommendations?

message 12: by Erin (new)

Erin (AyreJohnston) | 30 comments hm, i'm going to have to think about that. Only one that comes to mind is The Black Jewels series. The only title I can remember is #3 The Shadow Queen by Ann Bishop.
