Brittany | 1 comments Hello, my name is Brittany, I was on both Reddit and Goodreads for a while before I noticed this group.

I enjoy reading Historical Fiction, and lately I have been enjoying SciFi a lot although I only started to read that genre about two years ago, so I don't really know what to read after I finish all the Michael Crichton books.

Currently I just finished the Island of Dr. Moreau, and then next book I am onto is Why she Buys, unfortunately I am in school right now so I am a bit slower than usual but hopefully I can complete my goal of 45 books in 2012.

Jill Hi there,

My name is Jill. I'm new to Reddit officially (less than a month), but have lurked for ages. I've been on Goodreads a while longer, but I'm interested in finding some new friends with similar book tastes (or different but intriguing tastes). I'm always looking for new recommendations.

Right now the vast majority of my reading is for school, where I'm studying literature and writing. When I'm choosing, I read from many genres, but favor SF, fantasy, horror, and mainstream of the "literary fiction" variety. I especially love dystopian, speculative, and post-apocalyptic fiction. I like dark subjects--not really into the happy ending.

If any of this sounds appealing, feel free to add me.

Happy reading!

Rowena (birthdaycake) | 3 comments Hi, I'm Rowena. :D I mostly lurk on Reddit because (luckily) everyone else is wittier than me. I don't really know what I read o_o... I suppose contemporary fiction. I love stories with surrealist elements and I choose books for good writing above all (although of course they have to be on things that interest me). Interactive fiction is pretty cool too. And I've been trying to read more nonfiction books.

Ernie | 1 comments I'm Ernie, efischerSC2 over on Reddit. I'm a long time Redditor, but am pretty new to this Good Reads site (though, I'm loving it so far).

It only made sense that the first group I join over here be the Reddit group.

I don't read very much, but, have been making an effort to change that lately. I like trivia books (Ken Jennings is the man), as well as some sci fi and comedy. As well as books on poker (PLO or NLH mostly).

message 110: by Jonathan (last edited Jun 17, 2012 01:29PM) (new)

Jonathan Brown Greetings, everyone. I'm JB. I've been on GoodReads for a while, but just joined Reddit a couple days ago and saw the link to this group through r/books.

I'm a non-fiction junkie. Mostly religion and philosophy reads, with some scattered other subjects. One of these days - probably when my access to an awesome academic library is cut off and I'm forced to switch back to the public library system and my own out-of-control collection - I'll start really diving back into the world of fiction, but for now I only really dabble in fiction a couple times per year. I recently finished my 30th book of 2012, so I'm having a fairly slow year, especially compared to 2009 (165 books) and 2010 (145 books).

Not really sure what to say to introduce myself, but if anybody has any questions, just ask. Anyone who looks at my profile and finds it interesting somehow is free to add me as a friend, too. It's nice to be here.

Thom Kiefer | 2 comments Hello everyone, I'm Thom. I'm a 21 year old computer engineering student in New Jersey. I've been a redditor for a little over a year now and have been on Goodreads for about the same amount of time. I'm currently trying to build out a physical library in my room so I have only added to Goodreads the books that I currently own. I'm a huge fan on fiction but also read a bit on non-fiction as well.

Also I'm one of those people who can't stand using a nook or a kindle. I like having the actual book in front of me, something about the feel of the pages e-readers can't recreate yet.

message 112: by Emilie (new)

Emilie | 2 comments Hey, I'm Emilie. I found out about this website just a few days ago from a post in r/books. I'm still getting the hang of this place but I'm really enjoying it! I'm a student (premed, if anybody was wondering) and always tell myself that I never have time to read, even though I love reading! This website has made me want to find time again.

I'm only following about four people right now, so I'd love to have more.

I mostly read fiction, with my small amount of non-fiction books mostly consisting of knitting and anatomy books.

message 113: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 2 comments Hi everyone! I'm Kelly and I found out about this group through r/books a few days ago. I've been a member of goodreads for a while though so I have a bit of a collection already. I love writing reviews and reading a very large selection of books. I do look through other people's lists a bit so I would love more friends. I love books about Italy in particularly but I really do read EVERYTHING I can get my hands on!

So, can your reading choices be accurately summed up by this page?

Ha! This is wonderful! I'd say you (well, the website) definitely captured my reading habits well.
Now I kinda want to knit a giant rabbit for my yard, hmm..

If we weren't absolutely certain that the condo association would have hysterics, we'd have one already.

message 117: by Christopher (new)

Christopher (cahoium) | 1 comments I suppose I should introduce myself. My name is Chris, cahoium on reddit. I don't really put much stock into genre when choosing what to read but I guess you could say that I'm mainly drawn to a good prose style in literature. The latest novel that I read was 2666 by Roberto Bolano and before that, Player Piano by Kurt Vonnegut. The former I adored and the latter was just fine. Currently I've moved on to Philip Roth's Zuckerman novels, having read the first two, and am slowly grinding away at Proust's Remembrance of Things Past (or In Search of Lost Time).
Looking for some more Goodreads friends to help keep myself reading and reddit seemed like the right place to look.

message 118: by Hannah0louise (new)

Hannah0louise | 1 comments I'm hannah - fishcustardfortea on reddit - from Wales UK. I'm brand new to goodreads, and officially newish to reddit although I lurked for a long time (until I found r/doctorwho :) I like to read mainly fantasy however I will read anything thats put in front of me and I will finish it no matter how terrible I think it is because I have to know what happens! I also read pretty fast when I'm excited about the story which means I will read a book 2 or 3 times to make sure I have got all the little bits of the story.

Hello Everyone!

message 119: by Ted (new)

Ted | 14 comments I'm Ted (tedtutors on reddit). I comment there mostly on audiobooks, as I listen far more than I read. Fortunately the audio selection these days is pretty great!

I love fantasy and sci fi. Just finished Reamde and thought it was so-so; a thriller for the WoW/Google age.

message 120: by Nikiverse (new)

Nikiverse I'm Niki and I am responding to this thread a year too late.

Chemist. Mormon. Crossfitter. Yogi.
Not in that order.

message 121: by Ashraf (new)

Ashraf Hi all! And greeting from South Africa.

Like many, I am very new to reading fiction, so I have loads of classics to catch up on. Currently fighting (yes fighting) with Tolkien :)

Have a good day.

message 122: by Katie (new)

Katie (katiekatt) | 4 comments Hi I'm Katie. I'm here to wake up the Reddit Group, I guess. r/books is the whole reason I came here, because I'd take, sometimes crap, suggestions from you guys and someone mentioned this site.

I'm a college dropout that somehow became a teaching assistant at a preschool. It's an alright job, but my heart still wants to be that Physics Professor. Maybe I'll go back? Maybe in a couple of years.

Well, I'm twenty-something, about to move into an apartment with my guy of five years and his best friend. I do not know how to drive, I ride a bicycle everywhere, except a few days in winter when I bum for rides because I'm a very lazy person. I listen to very bad music (New Order, The Killers, Techno stuff) and jump around in book genres. I like my Sci-fi, but I've found some very dull ones there too. Mystery is my least favorite, mainly the murder because I'm like "Okay fuck, I already knew it was the guy creeping around with the fake accent. We didn't need to spend 400 pages talking about the poor teenager with a drug problem" I'm trying to break out of the teen section too, which is hard. But it's upstairs at my library, so the physical work of having to go up three flights of stairs supports my decision. Also I'm scared of sloths and Hummers.

message 123: by radiovalkyrie (new)

radiovalkyrie | 2 comments Hey guys,

I'm radiovalkyrie everywhere on the internet, and my name is Kam. I'm 29 this month, which is nice, because it's a prime number.

Books are a huge part of my life: their physical presence, their smell, typefaces, colorplates, editions, translations, cloth bindings, embossing, deckled edges, leather spines. Bookstores are like churches to me, a place of reverence and deep reflection and something verging on fanaticism.

I'm not much of a genre fiction reader, but I foray into SciFi/Fantasy occasionally for the likes of LeGuin and Gibson. My comfort zone is contemporary fiction, modern and postmodern poetry, and central European and Russian literature.

And for candy, I like graphic novels and historical fiction; bonus points for crafty and feminist heroines.

I like to translate Russian poetry as a hobby, and in my spare time at work I make origami polyhedrons out of my business cards.

message 124: by Stuart (last edited Nov 28, 2012 02:05AM) (new)

Stuart (stuartdanker) | 1 comments Hi all. I've been getting e-mails about this discussion so why not join in.

I'm Stuart from Malaysia, and my real life acquaintances don't read so I'm forced to share my literary enjoyment with random internet strangers, which isn't a bad thing at all.

I read mostly everything, but what really started me reading was when I was 17 and found Zig Ziglar. I've since graduated from self-help and more into literature. Currently trying to make a dent in Reddit's recommended reading list.

As for me, I'm 29, was a hairdresser, completing an Accounting diploma for a career change.

Nice meeting you guys.

message 125: by Subhankar (last edited Mar 13, 2013 03:18PM) (new)

Subhankar Sahu (kensuvy) | 1 comments Hi, I am Subhankar (Ken), a redditor from India. I like to read Sci-fi (especially hard-scifi, where explosions in space don't make sounds, space opera and cyberpunk) and non-fiction (related to science, maths, technology and history). I was not into fantasy much but now I am exploring the genre. I also read classics and poetry now and then.

message 126: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (icecheeseplease) Hm. It seems that this group died last year, such a shame! Just for the sake of going through the motions, Hi:). I'm Ashley- My two main hobbies are reading and playing video games. As far as reading goes the genres I usually stick to are fantasy and fiction.

message 127: by John L (new)

John L (philipblake) | 3 comments Oh well, let's bring it back!

I am John! I enjoy both audiobook and reading. My biggest genres are probably war stories, fantasy, and psychology, but I'm looking to branch out into more nonfiction.

message 128: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte | 2 comments Hello, I am Charlotte, a kiwi based in Melbourne. I am a sculptor, but this doesn't influence my choice of books. I am a sucker for a good classic, but love reading about people from different parts of history, for example Sebastian Barry's Annie Dunne. I am not too into sci fi, with Oryx and Crake being the extent of it. In my (little) spare time I cool, cycle and walk my cat!

message 129: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi there.

I've been a redditor for a number of years but I only recently stumbled upon this group. I am a sci-fi/fantasy/horror author, gamer, writer, reader among other things.

I'm currently reading Game Of Thrones out of curiosity how it compares to the series. So far I enjoy it, even though I am not usually a fan of high fantasy. I also have a number of Stephen King and John Scalzi book partially opened or queued up on my Kindle. Sadly all paperbacks are being packed because we are moving.

Pleased to meet you all.

message 130: by Paula (new)

Paula | 2 comments I thought I'd introduce myself here as I don't talk to people enough, why not try the interwebs! I don't read enough anymore, thanks to that mixed blessing that is the cyber superhighway. Right now I'm half-listening to Tina Fey's Bossypants autobiography. Funny! I'm 26, I've been living in Glasgow, Scotland for nearly 5 years having moved around a bit since deciding my home town of Cork was the problem in my life (turns out the problem was all my own but hey at least now I practice enough self-immolation to know better) I'm not an organised person so please don't be offended if you send me a message I will definitely try to reply within a day because conversation kinda falls flat after a week doesn't it! But like I said, hopeless at organising my time so don't cry if it takes me forever :)

message 131: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (lastnightsbook) | 5 comments Hi everyone! I guess I never officially introduce myself either. Name's Annie. I'm actually much more active and the mod over at r/books on goodreads (http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/9...)

Anyone is welcome to join. We started this branch off of this group originally when no one was posting here. I would like it if this group became more active though.
This is actually the first notification I got from this group so here's hoping!
