Jackeline (jackelineblue) | 141 comments for almost a year now i haven't been able to read a new book. i've been rereading past books and reading new books but they're from a series. i would really like some help however i'm sort of particular about the types of books i read:1)i like fantasy 2)humor and romance 3)i seem to like "happy endings" or almost "happy endings" . i would really like a few suggestions.
(also i'm doing a project on the holocaust does anyone know books/sites about "the steps taken to see Anne Frank's diary published. research the people involved")

message 2: by Sierra (new)

Sierra Bookworm☺️♪ oooh! i know! The Percy Jackson series! its hilarious, fantasy, theres some romance, and it has a happy ending! its perfect! unless youve read them already...

message 3: by Jackeline (new)

Jackeline (jackelineblue) | 141 comments i guess i should update my list of books i've read the Percy Jackson series and the Lost Hero the Heroes of Olympus series

message 4: by Sierra (new)

Sierra Bookworm☺️♪ i luv those books! lol hmm...what else...? the Artemis Fowl books are funny at times, fantasy, a bit romantic, i dont know if they have a happy ending, though, cuz im currently reading them. theres a lot of action/adventure in those books as well

message 5: by Jackeline (new)

Jackeline (jackelineblue) | 141 comments well the books don't need to be a series like they could be a one shot like mermaid park
anyway any suggestions on my project?

message 6: by Sierra (new)

Sierra Bookworm☺️♪ umm google publishing Anne Frank's diary? im not sure. there are a ton of books about the holocaust out there, though, like Number the Stars, A Devil in Vienna, and When Hilter Stole Pink Rabbit. those are all historical fiction, though

message 7: by Jackeline (new)

Jackeline (jackelineblue) | 141 comments i don't like to read historical fiction and since it's the holocaust it would be depressing

I think you'd enjoy The Secret Series... Pseudonymous Bosch is the author.

Then again, I think everyone would enjoy the Secret Series. XD

Maybe try Elsewhere, very interesting and engaging. Another good one is The Word Gang... And, if you're into darker fantasy, Coraline or A Tale Dark and Grimm. :-)

Another good darker fantasy novel is The Graveyard Book.

Gabby (Gabby123) | 853 comments You'd probably like The Hunger Games, excellent series, but if you're a bit squeamish it might be a problem. There's not a lot of gore but it's a little bit graphic. You may also like the Gone series, which is also very good and a little sci-fi-ish.

The Mysterious Benedict Society is very good... You just asked me wrong question, I could ramble on forever! Also maybe try A Series of Unfortunate Events.

Little better, but Collins needs a new editor. :-/

Becky (MissFooFoo) | 4249 comments Mod
What do you mean?

message 23: by Sarah, The Random Nerd (new)

Sarah (agentsd) | 11810 comments Mod
Sentence fragments! And awkward sentences!

message 24: by Becky, AwesomeOne (new)

Becky (MissFooFoo) | 4249 comments Mod
Could you give me an example?

message 25: by Sarah, The Random Nerd (new)

Sarah (agentsd) | 11810 comments Mod
"...if all the day off meant was roaming."

Should have been: "if having the day off meant roaming" or even "if all having the day off meant was roaming".

Sentence fragments are everywhere, sentences without subjects, sentences without predicates...

message 26: by Gabby (new)

Gabby (Gabby123) | 853 comments Don't worry, I thought that too, but it gets WAY better!Just keep at it!

message 27: by Sarah, The Random Nerd (new)

Sarah (agentsd) | 11810 comments Mod
Alrighty then! :)

You do have good point

Nothing angers me more than mistakes in books. Well, perhaps cliffhangers... ;) I should be an editor when I grow up.

message 30: by Becky, AwesomeOne (new)

Becky (MissFooFoo) | 4249 comments Mod
You should... there wouldn't be any mistakes!!
I hate cliffhangers... one I was reading this book and it was the last one in the series and suddenly it stopped... the author didn't continue with another book or tell you somehow... so i still don't know!

message 31: by Jackeline (new)

Jackeline (jackelineblue) | 141 comments I've already read the series of unfortunate events and I realize the title spoke for itself but I'm still upset about the ending
Ummm.... I read fanfic in fanfiction.com and I really hate when people don't use proper grammar or cuss but in books I don't notice mistakes very often whether it's because I'm to focus on the story or I'm not very good at grammar but sometimes I do notice and it ruins the mood like I didnt really get what the author was trying to say so I reread it but I might have to reread it a few times and by then the mental image I had is gone ....
(I hope this wasn't too long....)

message 32: by Sarah, The Random Nerd (new)

Sarah (agentsd) | 11810 comments Mod
Same here, Jackeline! I just caught a dreadfull grammatical error in the Hunger Games, "mom taught Prim and me.." GRR!

message 33: by Gabby (new)

Gabby (Gabby123) | 853 comments maybe you should NOT look for errors, because now you are going to ruin the book fro yourself!

message 34: by Sarah, The Random Nerd (new)

Sarah (agentsd) | 11810 comments Mod
I'm not necessarily looking for them, but they do like to rub their ugly little heads in my face.

message 35: by Becky, AwesomeOne (new)

Becky (MissFooFoo) | 4249 comments Mod
Haha... I suppose your right

message 36: by Jackeline (new)

Jackeline (jackelineblue) | 141 comments There's no way the author is doing it on purpose right?

message 37: by Sarah, The Random Nerd (last edited Apr 22, 2011 09:52AM) (new)

Sarah (agentsd) | 11810 comments Mod
No, she just doesn't know how to write a grammatically correct sentence. >:( It's really starting to get on my nerves... On the plus side, the book is pretty good, if you look past the errors.

message 38: by Sierra (new)

Sierra Bookworm☺️♪ have you read twilight?! AHHH!!! grammatical errors EVERYWHERE! mah brain hurt after reading those books >=(

message 39: by Sarah, The Random Nerd (new)

Sarah (agentsd) | 11810 comments Mod
I'm afraid Twilight will murder too many of my brain cells. I stay far away...

message 40: by Sierra (new)

Sierra Bookworm☺️♪ you are very wise to do so, im quite sure my IQ took a severe drop while reading those books.... dont worry, its back, but it took a while to get there >=(.

message 41: by Sarah, The Random Nerd (new)

Sarah (agentsd) | 11810 comments Mod
Haha................
.................why in the world did you read Twilight?

message 42: by Sierra (new)

Sierra Bookworm☺️♪ i was younger, and id never seen any of the reviews, and it was just sitting in my personal library, so i picked it up... i regret it

message 43: by Becky, AwesomeOne (new)

Becky (MissFooFoo) | 4249 comments Mod
So I shouldn't read it.... people say I should read it but if there are so many grammar errors then it must be a terrible book

message 44: by Jackeline (new)

Jackeline (jackelineblue) | 141 comments i don't understand why people don't like it could anyone explain? i do like the plot but i don't like edward's attitude toward how to be with bella also i don't like new moon slightly depressing. breaking dawn; i didn't like jacob's point of view why couldn't stay in bella's pov *sigh*

message 45: by Becky, AwesomeOne (new)

Becky (MissFooFoo) | 4249 comments Mod
So did you like it or not?

message 46: by Gabby (last edited Apr 24, 2011 05:52PM) (new)

Gabby (Gabby123) | 853 comments Well, honestly it's entirely up to the person who's reading it. If someone likes it but someone else doesn't, they shouldn't go say "But it's horrible! You have horrible taste if you liked it!". It's up to anyone's perspective. Some people think it's great, some people don't. I find it better NOT to judge a book by the editing skills, but by the actual story and the characters, if some people love it, great they've found a book they enjoy. If somebody hates it, fair enough, it's not the book for you, but some people shouldn't go bashing other people's opinions like they don't matter. Some people think it is poorly written, the characters are not likeable and there are lots of errors. But lets be honest; what book doesn't? There are exeptions but anyone is allowed to like whatever they want, and others shouldn't try to convince them otherwise.

message 47: by Jackeline (new)

Jackeline (jackelineblue) | 141 comments I do like it but I think I only like twilight and even then before the baseball game when I found out there was going to be another book I also found out she wasnt actually going to do it because of a leak I was upset but I did read a draft of breaking sun(?) i liked it because it was in Edward's pov and we find out what people thought in twilight

message 48: by Becky, AwesomeOne (new)

Becky (MissFooFoo) | 4249 comments Mod
I like what you said Gabby

message 49: by Jackeline (new)

Jackeline (jackelineblue) | 141 comments Does no one else have any suggestions? If it helps I can refine my request (hope that doesn't sound demanding or anything) : not a series, not sci-fi, funny, romantic, a fantasy
Any of the do's none of the not's
