Peep (Pop! Pop!) | 17 comments As the title asks, can anyone recommend any good titles from NetLibrary? I have the service available through my library, but realized I heavily use Overdrive. I was wondering if I was missing anything good.

Or, if anyone can tell me how they mastered the search on the site, I'd be grateful for that. I can never seem to figure it out and always end up with way more results than I can get through.

Heidi | 1546 comments Peep I use Netlibrary mostly for my cozy mysteries, but over the last year they added a ton of YA books as well.

I normally log in and click on see our collection of "eAudiobooks" on the top right. Once I do that, on the right hand side there are a list of categories. I mostly just click on young adult fiction and mysteries. Now that I use it all the time when I am in either YA or mysteries I click on "most recent" in the sort by category. When I find one I like I add it to my "favorites" which is the same as the Overdrive wishlist.

Let me know if you need anymore help. As far as recommendations from Netlibrary I will get back to you, but off the top of my head the Georgia Nicholson and Undead and Unemployed series are two of my favorites from Netlibrary.

John | 3917 comments Off the top of my head, here are a couple of NetLibrary books I've listened to that might interest you:

Wild Things (stand alone YA)

Defending Angels (first in paranormal mystery series)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) | 17 comments Thanks Heidi and John! I'll use the tips and check out the books you mentioned. :)

Heidi | 1546 comments Peep check out the mystery section - there are some good ones there. I usually check GR for reviews while I am in Netlibrary (multitasking at it's best!).

Peep (Pop! Pop!) | 17 comments It wasn't me. I guess the library just doesn't have a good Netlibrary selection. For example, there are only about 7 young adult titles there. All the rest of the libraries either no longer use it or at least don't advertise it.

Heidi | 1546 comments Peep my Netlibrary used to be like that, then all of sudden they added like 200 YA titles. Hopefully yours will do the same.

Peep (Pop! Pop!) | 17 comments Hopefully! I'll keep checking back.

Javasapien | 272 comments Don't know about your library's Netlibrary selection but mine has most or all by Craig Johnson (Walt Longmire series - very good.), C J Box (Joe Pickett series and stand-alones are very good) and James Lee Burke, who is a little to dark/graphic for my tastes but a great writer who most people seem to love.

message 10: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 1546 comments I love James Lee Burke, but he is heavier than most of my mystery series writers.

Cheryl (cheryl1961) | 11 comments I find NetLibrary's search feature practically useless. Searching for a book you are SURE is there brings up nothing. You will more easily find it by direct link from your library. But using NetLibrary's search feature for the same title brings up zip. Not sure if this is only e-audiobooks or not.

Do a search in your library's catalog for: "Recorded Books, LLC" This brought up over 900+ titles at my library. Another way I have found good NetLibrary audiobooks is to browse thru Recorded Books'Digital catalog and Audiobook catalogs (http://recordedbooks.com/index.cfm?fu... .

Here are some of the better books I have read from NetLibrary in the past 6-7 months or so.
Ivan Doig Books
Lynn Austin books
Sandra Dallas books
James Lee Burke books
*Thousand Autumns of Jacob De Zoet David Mitchell
*Absence of Nectar by Kathy Hepinstall
*North River Pete Hamill
*Zeitoun Dave Eggers
*The Darkest Child Delores Phillips
*One Amazing Thing Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni
*The Murderer’s Daughter Randy Susan Meyers
*How Perfect is That Sarah Bird
*Every Man Dies Alone Hans Fallada

Hope this helps.

Cheryl (cheryl1961) | 11 comments One last thing. If you are a fan of George Guidall, NetLibrary has about 177 audiobook titles with him as the narrator.

Cheryl (cheryl1961) | 11 comments One last thing from long-winded old me. When you download NetLibrary audiobook Mp3's into your iTunes, it will be labeled as 'Music'. Simply select that title(I find it more quickly looking into the 'Recently Added' folder). Go to 'Get Info' on that title, then select the 'Options' tab, then in 'Options' select 'Media Kind' and change to 'Audiobook' then put a checkmark into both 'Remember Playback Position' and 'Skip When Shuffling'. This makes it bookmarkable and puts it into your Books folder in iTunes. I also paste a large image of the book into the Artwork section there b/c the original is so small. Once the audiobook is there, it does not expire and will be in your library until you delete it. Everyone probably knows this but I thought I would add it for NetLibrary newbies.

John | 3917 comments I find Net Library searching a bit clunky, but it does work. There are a couple of books I'm waiting to see added (the latest "Miss Julia" and "Beaufort & Co. mysteries" titles), so I check every so often. When I enter those authors' names, I get listings of their books my library has available.

I wasn't clear, but was referring to the search for e-audiobooks. The e-books feature seems to be much better coded for the search feature.

Heidi | 1546 comments I just got an email recently indicating my Netlibrary is changing platforms (??). Wonder if it will be easier to use.

I was referring to audiobooks also. I've never dealt with Net Library ebooks.

Ann (annrumsey) | 163 comments I found this info on the Net Library site about their enhancements. Unfortunately my local library hasn't decided to continue a net library relationship yet.
http://support.epnet.com/support_news...

John | 3917 comments Their ebooks that we get are nothing I'd be remotely interested in, but I suppose downloading in CD-sized parts with correct tagging would be an improvement.
