GSGS Personally, I think that Clary is a really boring, uninteresting character. She basically just lets what happens to her wash over her and hope that someone else will do something about it.

BUUUUUUUUUT I understand that this might not necessarily be everybody else's opinion. So, whaddaya think? :P

Stormy I don't think that Clary really had a choice in the matter. Every time she tried to help someone told her to stand on the sidelines because she isn't trained. She did disobeyed and jumped in anyway.(Not all the time)

Now that she's training in City of Fallen Angels I think she might step up a lot more.

Agree* c:

Wendy Darling You know, I sort of thought the same thing in the first 3 books. I liked Clary a lot better in City of Fallen Angels, she finally seems to get a little backbone.

Ella I didn't notice it for the first three, but I thought it really came through in the fourth book :/
She doesn't really have any character - unlike Jace and Simon who have their sarcasm and humour respectively, Clary just kind of had the clichéd hair and eyes and I personally think Jace could have found someone with much more depth ;)

i kind of agree but i still think without her boring personality(not really the words i want to say)the books just wouldnt be the same

Sophia I agree with you. She has more depth of character than...Bella, let's say, but she's still a pretty flat character.

Sarah ya....definately better than bella

GSGS Defs better than Bella XD Everyone's better than Bella ~.~

Anyway, I just found Clary so passive. There's been quite a bit of time since I read it, but I really want a memorable MC, which I totally didn't get from Clary. I remember all the things that happen to her, but not her in herself, if that makes sense.

ya no i dont get it...this might be a stupid question that i will later kick myself for but whats an MC?

Kristen Callihan I think in the first three books Clary appears to be flat because of her being brought up as a mundane. I think now that she is learning to fight in the 4th book, that she is starting come into her own more. I think that is why she gets so upset with her mother in the 3rd book because her mother didn't give her the chance to become a strong fighter, but rather shielded her from all of that. I also feel that Clary doesn’t like feeling helpless either, but she hasn’t yet learned to use her biggest strengths yet either. I’m really hoping that in the 4th book she starts showing she is just as strong.

Stormy She does. She's put her demon fighting gear on and kicked some stinky demon butt.

I haven't read the fourth, so maybe she'll get better

Vic I love Clary!!! in the first 3 books she is in a different world filled with new horrors, has to deal with her mother lying and then being in a coma and the horrible situwation with Jace and trying to keep her friendship with Simon going etc. Plus shes kinda on her own a lot because shes out of her element!! i mean considering all that she does pretty dam well especially considering SHE HELPS WIN THE WAR! plus she is art, stubborn and has some saarcasm of her own and she helps Jace when hes most down! Thats a pretty stong female character to me!

u know what? ur absolutely right...she's not much of a boring character at all...she just has a lot on her plate to deal with

I find this funny, The "cliche' " part about Clary, Actually blondes are more cliche', and... isn't just about everything a cliche' in this world? Every thing derives from some thing. And, Cassandra Clare is a redhead, with what looked like green eyes..... :)

Janie She seems so boring and such to me because when I read the book, I just happened to be focusing on her "brother". I mean, duh. Jace or Clary? What do you think? :P hahaha...

message 22: by GSGS (new) - added it

GSGS @Janie: True :D

@Victoria: Eh, maybe. However Clary really didn't make a lasting impression on me, like most protags.

Victoria i loooooooveeeee clary as a character, shes actually great

Tamara clary is great!! i love how shes sarcastic and doesnt put up with jaces crap!

Stormy yes, i realized that about her. she doesn't put up with anyone's crap...not even her mothers.
