I'm listening to Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and I thought I wasn't going to find any names but I found two already! (Oliver and Nicholas)

She vetoed my using Micheala for Makayla. There's a female Kennedy in the last couple of Sookie Stackhouse books.
The main character of the Fever books by Karen Marie Moning is Mackayla.
I read one book of Moning and had my finger down my throat the whole time (for a challenge), I am just too old for the silliness. I am sure at the end I will be reading books 10 pages a day to get thru them which is what I do with books I dont' like, and then I get ice cream for doing it. Thanks for the suggestions. I have worked on it all day today.
The only one of Charlene Harris' books I found it listed in on Shelfari was Dead int he Family and I have requested the MP3 edition from my library....Thanks a lotby the way when you think of me, think your grandmother, I am sure I am close to her age...lol
LOL Lindy!! I don't think you are the only one in the group.. (Grandmother that is...)This Makayla thing really bugs me! Because personally I think that both Makayla and Mackayla would be pronounced the same in Australia. ...I'm going to do some more 'google' research... If anyone else uncovers a good reason to pronounce the names the same, please let me know.
Every time I see the name Kennedy I think of the band, 'The Dead Kennedys'. I'm sure that the ppl who name their child this name would be horrified!
Hey Jane! I have a question about a name in Naked Werewolf! I'll put it under the spoiler tag because, well...it has a spoiler, LOL! I know you read it already so I can ask you...(view spoiler)
Can we use Eva as a name even though it's only implied that's Evie's name?
I think she approved Mackayla and Makayla as interchangeable. But she vetoed (for me) Micheala for Mackayla.Jane you said Mackayla for Makayla was ok on page 4 post 179.
I just found this site and to me they look the same: http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning...
Both are listed as variations of Micheala with an "ah" sound instead of an "ii" sound.

LOL! OK - I'm just getting confused with my own rulings!!! :)
I'm totally fine with Michaela and Mackayla. I was worried about Makayla and Michaela - because there seemed to be a differentiation how to pronounce Makayla.
Stuff it! *bl**dy pronounce names* *grumble* - they are ALL fine!! Michaela, Makayla and Mackayla!!! They are all interchangeable. :)
***edit***
Mary - I need to thank you for your persistence in getting this sorted out! My brain was starting to spin and shut down whenever it neared the subject of Makayla! Thanks!
And thank you for all the information that you post on this site for everyone. I'm very appreciative :)
Well I wasn't pushing for Michaela to be included. But I'll take it since I had that name already. (although I plan to read the last 2 Fever books by Karen Marie Moning soon anyway)
All 3 of those names kept popping up as being "rare" in America. I always thought they were common and have encountered quite a lot of one or another version over the years.

Sorry DG - I went back and read the passage. I can see where you are coming from but I don't think the 'tie' is specific enough... It is too general - Evie might still be an 'Eve', but that varied name 'Eva' would still be a compliment to her.
Well I found a Violet that speaks, by accident. I was feeling kind of guilty for the Violet I used under the Evil Character rule.

This is so frustrating! I got a Graydon instead of a Grayson. I've read several books where I've already marked the names off.
I've had a run of no names or just one name lately. Mostly because it was names that I'd had multiple times already. I was going like gang busters for awhile there and now it's only a name here and there. I did make a list of possible books for each name, but I haven't really been using. I've been reading various books and just been lucky with having a lot have 2-4 names. Until recently anyway. There's only been a few that I checked out from the library for a specific name. Although I think there's still a few names where I don't own a book for, that I know of anyway.
I've had a few books where the name is the wrong gender - frustrating - Morgan (a couple of times but always men) and Devin (as a female name). And I've had a male Miciah, but not Micah!...I need to update my list... :)
For a while I was only finding a name or two but then I found 3 names in Werewolf and 3 in Harry Potter. I even found a Jacob in a book i read set in Norway (I wasn't expecting to find any.)
Jackpot! Started reading
. I have some of these, but I'll just post all that apply to this challenge:Jonathan
Elijah
James
Lily
Eleanor - called "Elle" by her sister - pronounced "Ellie"
Josiah
Jane, I think her best are either of these two (I listed our challenge names - at least what I remember; it has been awhile since I read them; there may be more):
- would give you Colton, Brianna, Robert
- would give you Carolyn, Nicholas
I started Kiss of Snow and there are like a million names in there. These are all from the cast of characters and most of them are recurring:
Andrew, Anthony, Ava, Cooper, Elias (Eli), Henry, Kaleb, Lucas, Lucy, Maria, Max, Nathan, Riley, Sophia, Xavier.
Of course, this is the 10th book in the series and I don't recommend you start there (this is a series that really builds up.) But a lot of those characters are recurrent.
I think I am going to have to separate my boys and girls name into two messages. I got that this is over the limit warning and I deleted something to make it fit. But I don't know how long that's going to be for.
I have the names all lined up in paragraph form and cross them off as used. Then I list the book and all the names besides it-takes up less space than listing all the names in a vertical in and the book by each name.
Hina wrote: "I think I am going to have to separate my boys and girls name into two messages. I got that this is over the limit warning and I deleted something to make it fit. But I don't know how long that's..."I think I'm going to do this too; I got the same message (thought I did it Mary's way).
Hmmm. I even listed a whole bunch of possible books with names that I own on mine and it says I still have a lot of characters left.
So I picked up Storm's Faeries for another challenge and it turns out to have: Tristan, Dylan and Brady which I still needed. It also has: Sophie, which I've already used. But the real surprise for me is: Aislinn. Which pronounce names has as pronounced like Ashlynn and Aisling. Aisling was aproved for Ashlynn around page 5 of this thread.
Here's what pronouncenames has for Aislinn:
In Ireland it pronounced as ASH-lin, not ASH-leen. lin rhymes with sin, and is NOT a homophone.
I have them listed like Mary and have almost 7,000 characters left (and I've listed 31 books, the names, plus some extra books I own where I know there are some names.)
This running out of space is a real issue - it probably depends on how many links in your post. If you just type the book name - not so many characters as if you link in the book.I ran out of room for the participants list at the front for linking due to character space issues.
If you like LisaKay and Hina, just post another two threads, but please don't delete your old message as my numbering of message posts will REALLY be out. (I think it is already out of sync - yes, I have housekeeping issues to sort out :)
I won't, Jane, I promise. Wait... nah, I couldn't blackmail you into changing the spelling of a name. :)
I put a link for each book as well. I think the key might be to list and link to each book only once. I also see some people posting book covers and I imagine those will run out of characters more quickly as well.
I just checked mine and I have 3800 characters left. I figure if I start getting too low on characters, I'll remove the extra names that I put. I've been putting in parenthesis duplicate names. Just to let people know who might look at my list incase they need them.
I just put in the titles, not the authors. I like having the links there b/c that is what I'd like other people to do - in case I want to check out the book. I like the covers there b/c they are more attractive! :O Soooo pretty! Not as good as being in a bookstore, but close. :)
Storm's Faeries also had a Tristan which I should have noticed just from the back description. But I only just looked at that.
I just read Tyler by Linda Lael Miller and there were a lot of names: Tyler, Lily, Logan, Dylan, Brianna and Stella. I'm not sure if Stella would count though, her part was very small.
There is also a Tristan in Tempted All Night... Sorry - haven't hit a Kennedy (of the female variety) as yet.
