I think my first was Salem's Lot. Love the book and saw the movie!

I read IT while pregnant with my first son, Carrie with my second, and Bag of Bones during my third pregnancy... my Mom saw the Exorcist in theaters while pregnant with me, so I kept the horror theme going... even saw Exorcist 3 during that first pregnancy... LOL.
IT was my first King book too. To this day I recommend that people not start off with that one, even though it got me hooked. It's just so disturbing, and I expect everyone else to be put off by that I guess.
I have been a horror story/movie lover since I can remember. I saw King's movie "the Sleepwalkers" when I was 7 or 8. By the summer between my 6th grade and 7th grade year I had officially read all the Goosebumps books out of the teen section in the library, so the Librarian on duty pointed me to a display of horror books in the adult section. I was 13 and picked up The Shining and have never looked back.
Claire wrote: "the Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, didn't really get that into it."I just read that one. I agree. It is not on my list of favorites. The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon is one of only two of King's books that I started and didn't finish. The other one was The Dead Zone
My first book was IT. I guess it was a wise choice (wise indeed, Georgie) because it got me hooked and I read about five of his other novels that month. I'm reading the Dark Tower series as of now and love it!
Igor wrote: "Mine was Dreamcatcher :)"Actually that might of been mine too. This may be blasphemy but I can't remember for sure what mine was...either The Stand or Dreamcatcher. I kind of remember looking for Dreamcatcher at the library, not being able to find it and going with the Stand instead. But I might be remembering wrong.

Pls re-read and finish The Dead Zone ! one of his absolute best!
Glen wrote: "The Drawing of the Three, given to me by my best friend over 25 years ago."Really? You started with the second book of The Dark Tower ? ;) Wow!
Claire wrote: "the Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, didn't really get that into it."It's actually not a bad book. It was a break away from King's usual style, but I rather enjoyed it. It was very descriptive and I felt like I was with her in the woods the entire time.
Insomnia was my first I had just convinced my parents to let me get adult books from the library aged 11 and the cover was shiny and caught my eye. I'm so glad it did because I'm have been hooked ever since. An amazing talent for storytelling !
My first was Cujo. I made a list of all the nes I read in order. It goess like this: 2.Carrie
3.Desperation
4.The Shining
5.'Salem's Lot
6.Night shift
7.The Dark Tower I:The Gunslinger
8.The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon
9.Misery
10.The Dark Half
11.Blockade Billy-library
12.The Cycle of the Werewolf-library
13.The Long Walk
14.It
My first book was The GunSlinger. My son gave it to me to read and then we went through all of the Tower books together. My favorite has to be Duma Key and The Stand, after the Tower books of course.
I don't think I have ever answered this initial question: What was your first Stephen King book? Carrie. I had just turned 13 and had the worst year of my life and read that book. I lived vicariously through her eyes and have never looked back. I love his character development and became a huge fan... a little nuts, but a fan nonetheless. :D
I got into King through my Uncle, who gave me his copy of "The Dead Zone" to read when I was 11.Before that, I mainly had mainly been dipping my toe into the fantasy pool, reading classic authors in the genre like C.S Lewis and Tolkien.
King was my first foray into the realms of adult horror, and boy did I devour his stuff! I finished "The Dead Zone" in a little less than a week and immediately moved on to "Carrie." Those two books would seal my fate as a die-hard King aficionado.
I love everything the man has written. I am the Annie Wilkes to his Paul Sheldon lol. Can't wait for Doctor Sleep to hit shelves.
The very first one I read was "The Eyes of the Dragon" I can't really recall why I was attracted to it while I was in the book store, but it really blew my mind. That must have been nack in 2002.
The first Stephen King book I read was 'The Dead Zone'. In addition, it was the first book I read in English. I totally enjoyed it! I think that Stephen King inspired me to read. A year ago, I had no idea about taking a book and reading it. Now I just can't stop! And immediately after that I took 'Under the Dome'. Now there's '11/22/63' on my bookshelf, but I don't want to touch it yet. Leave it for the best times.
My first King book was Desperation. After that I only read one more, Bag of Bones, until this year. This year I have read 8 and am one my 9th. I really kicked it in gear. Have read Misery, The Shining, Salem's Lot, It, The Stand, Under the Dome, Carrie and Dark Tower 1. Currently reading Gerald's Game.
My first King book was Carrie.I bought it at as a holiday read, when I came home I started hunting down more King.
The first book I ever read by Stephen King was Misery. I was about 11 years old and I was totally in love with it. I've been in love with him ever since. I've read It, Carrie, Cujo, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon (one of my favorites!), and some others. Currently I am about to start Wizard and Glass, the next book in the Dark Tower series that I need to read.
green mile was the first one I finished. pet semetery was my first King purchase quite a few years before the Green Mile.
This was my first Stephen King's novel & OMG........... the book was just awesome....awesome is not the correct word for it.
I felt like I was living in this book...........everything was so fantastic...........But suddenly it just turned out to be - I really dont know how to put this...........I did enjoyed the book but not the chopping a foot part ...OMG........ I really can't imagine even in a book how the hell you could chop a foot....of another human???
AND still the man survived !!!! OMG that would have been really soo damn hurt...........
It really made my mind disturbed..............
But I will read other novels from this author....
And -----
Annie Wilkes---------- You are a sick F***ing woman...........you should chop your own head ! I hate you -Annie Wilkes- I really do hate you & you should live in hell...................
My first SK novel was Cujo at age 12. I picked it because I loved dogs. Let's just say that I prefer cats now...even Church...Pet Semetary was my second and I've been reading him ever since.
The first King book I read was IT. It wasn't when it first came out as a book, but some years after the film. The film was a fave of mine so I bought the book and there started the facination with King. :¬)

Enjoy!
My first read was The Talisman when I was 17 and thankfully I was sick and bed ridden at the time because I couldn't put it down! Jack and Wolf would have to be two of my most favourite SK characters. I hope King & Straub decide to go ahead with the third book sometime in the near future. My first purely SK book was Insomnia which I enjoyed but found confusing as there were so many references to the Crimson King etc that went straight over my head at the time... Would be interesting to read again now that I've read the DT series.

Theres so many DT references in his books. I've decided to revisit the DT books. They were awesome

I've loaned the series to my mum but definitely going to read them again when I get them back.
My first Pet Sematary. Great too because it was more straightforward than his others so I had time to gradually discover his writing style.
