Carol The first book in the trilogy was great reading, the second book can be bypassed and the third was o.k.

Beth Ann found a little slow at first but then I couldn't put it down. Some of the book is disturbing. I found this a good read. I just picked up the second book at the library today.

Robyn Smith By all means read it! What an insight into the Swedish psyche and not a veyr pleasant one either! But Stieg Larsson is such a feminist.

Robyn Smith Kate wrote: "I really enjoyed this book. An now reading Vol 2."

I bought the first one on special at Borders (NZ), then the other two off TradeMe (NZ version of Ebay). I couldn't wait to get them!

Just in Poppies (NZ) bookshop the other day and the shop assistant pointed out Jo Nesbo. Will definitely look for her/him? in the library.

Robyn, Jo is a guy :)

About Milenium series, I would say that if you like crime fiction, you can handle sadistic scenes and a lot of sex, you should give it a go.

In my opinion, the first book (the girl with the dragon tattoo) is good, the second is even better (more focused on Lisbeth character) and the third one is also very good but it's a little bit slower than the previous ones.

Robyn Smith In some ways, the third is the best of the lot, very suspensful I found. But they're all good!

Beatrix Yeah, I'm trying to keep myself opened to all kinds of genres, because I always seem to drift towards fantasy. I really need to find time to read this book. I've been so busy. ><

message 59: by Carol (new)

Carol I believe if the author had lived long enough to finish all ten volumes if would have all come together.

Lorrie I know you're right, Carol.

Beatrix How old are the books anyway? :o

Lorrie I think he had them done at the end of the 90s/early 2000. He finally contacted a publisher in 2003.

message 63: by Carol (new)

Carol He didn't finish number 4. The family was deciding whether or not to have someone finish the book. They decided against it. There were to be 10 books altogether in the series.

Beatrix Ah, I see. I feel like it would give the series more value that way. :)

OMG BRO I STARTED READING IT AND IT WAS A LOAD OF CRAP!!! -SORRY FOR THE LANGUAGE IT JUST COMES- but sericly didnt like it..got bored on the first page

Angela Sellers It's at least worth a try. If you like it, then keep on reading it. If you don't, then move on to a different book. I will warn you though, the first 150 pages are a little hard to get into, but once you get more into the solving the murder part, it really picks up.

Cindy Frisbie I really enjoyed all three in this series. Read them in order though

message 68: by Dee (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dee there is a huge court case going on right now between his family and his gf (who was essentially his common-law wife) - she is arguing they should be published, his family doesn't want to publish them

Carol wrote: "He didn't finish number 4. The family was deciding whether or not to have someone finish the book. They decided against it. There were to be 10 books altogether in the series."

Robyn Smith I've met people (even in my book club!)who don't like the books, but I don't think you cn ajudge thme by the first page!

Melissa Robyn wrote: "Melissa wrote: "Michelle wrote: "Why should she ignore all the bad reviews?! I thight All reviews ,good and bad were there for a reason, to make her own conclusion?" True that. An remember people..."

Well i havent read him, so i cant tell. But i do know that he has a dark side but i do know he has won some awards so maybe you should try it out and let us know. Good luck with it.

message 71: by Sharon (new) - added it

Sharon Read it! It is dark and you will not be able to put it down. devoured all three. Highly recommend.

Beatrix I usually read the first half of books anyway. If I don't like it, I don't read the other half. But to be fair, I'll give the book at least a shot. It interests me, and other people like it, so I'll start from there. I'll keep in mind why others didn't like it and form my opinion from there. :D

Beatrix I finally started reading it. I was about to put it down during the first few chapters but I was too lazy to get up and pick out another book, so I read more. I'm glad I pushed my way through the boring sections. :D

Sheri Trixie wrote: "Wow. So it's a love/hate relationship with this book.
I guess I'll have to see which one I'd be. I was thinking about buying it, but I don't wanna buy it and not like it."

As an e-reader that's a chance we all take but the advantage we have is that you usually down load sample chapters for free and see how the book suits you before you purchase it full blown. since this truly is a love it or hate it book. I would suggest that route. I read the series and didn't like them much at first but then got caught up in the story and really ended up liking it very much

Robyn Smith I'd agree, but I didn't find any boring sections! I just got the wind up about Swedish Nazis! (in the first book).

David I am on the "Love" side but agree it could be love it or hate it. Someone earlier said it was best if you could read it in long chunks and I agree with that, it's not a book to dip into for a few minutes at a time.

Jewett Yes - struggle through the economic information at the beginning because it's really boring. Then the story gets good - Lizbeth is fascinating and you need this as a basis for the next two books which are not full of economic crap and are really good.

Beatrix David wrote: "I am on the "Love" side but agree it could be love it or hate it. Someone earlier said it was best if you could read it in long chunks and I agree with that, it's not a book to dip into for a few m..."

Mhmm, I find that I get more out of it if I sit down and really read it. I don't have a lot of time on my hands, and I feel like if I read it for a few minutes at a time, I can't really get into it. This is the type of book where you have to give yourself an adequate amount of time to read and get into, no matter where you are in the book.

message 79: by Dee (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dee I think I mentioned above - but i did these in audiobook format on my commute into work (45min-1hr one way) and that seemed to be enough time for me to get into it

message 80: by Gary (new) - rated it 5 stars

Gary D. If you liked Pippi Longstocking, you will probably like this.

Beatrix Never read Pipi Longstockings. I watched the cartoon, though.

Oznasia If you have something else to read, read the other one first.

Leslie I read the entire trilogy and I can tell you this is one of the best series/books I've ever read. I didn't find the attention to detail boring at all. I was fascinated by the research and the truth within this awesome story. I can't say enough good things about Stieg Larrson as a story teller. I whole heartedly recommend these books.

Angie Gilbert Amanda wrote: "It depends. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone under the age of eighteen. It's got a disaster of a financial case to sort through, some rather foul language, some highly foul behaviour, a few char..."

Well said!!! Could not have said it any better, by the way I loved the books, but your right, not for everyone.

Jamie Gender I listened to all of the audio books and they were really good - but agree that there were times it was tough to listen to (the brutal scenes) and times it was difficult to understand (especially when driving and trying to comprehend at the same time :) But overall, I loved all of the books and really enjoyed the Swedish movies so can't wait for the American versions.

Beatrix I finished it. I'm not sure what to think of it. I wrote a review if you'd like to take a look. (:

Not a bad read, though.

message 87: by Lily (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lily Yes you should! You have to get past the first 50 pages to get to the good part. Be patient and don't let the first part of the book stop you from reading it!

message 88: by [deleted user] (new)

I couldn't put it down! a very well written book!

Kendra I enjoyed the whole series. The Girl With THe Dragon Tattoo was a little difficult to get through in some places, but well worth the effort!

Amy *Waitforit* I loved the first one and the third one was OK but I really found the second one difficult to get through. It can be a little tricky to get into these as I don't think the Swedish-English translation is that brilliant in places. However if you are looking for a brilliant concept and plenty of mystery as well as some rather gruesome bits then it is well worth reading.

Vadim Jensen Amazing book, but the second one kind of boring.

Nadra Nathai-Gyan I really enjoyed this and couldn't wait to finish the other two. Started off a bit daunting with the unfamilar names for us English people - but get passed that and these are great reads!

message 93: by Rach (new) - rated it 3 stars

Rach I had to read about 80 pages before I started liking it. After that, it got better and better. I am thinking of buying the second one. Just give it a chance, I guess, but dont expect to like it right away.

message 94: by Dee (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dee for me, the second one was much better - it jumped almost right into the story

message 95: by Lulu (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lulu yes. This is a great book

message 96: by Moulee (last edited Sep 05, 2011 04:13AM) (new) - rated it 1 star

Moulee i thought the plot was really tacky, characters were unlikable, the book is for sure a waste of time...every two pages the heroine is seen "booting her mac this and re-booting her mac that"...you hear so much technical info and that too not in good, informative way...it's annoying at just so many levels...there are inane subplots which are distasteful too by the way.. in spite of everything the book would have been forgivable if the book had gripping story, climax or story but it has got none of those...just highly overrated and disappointing

Maria Busoi It was a really great book. Definitely to read.

Dierdra McGill I really found all three to be great books and loved the movies as well. Don't watch the movies first tho it spoils the whole book!
I never had trouble getting through any of them and when I finished one could not wait to pick up the next! It just depends tho I suppose but I would have to agree the first part of the first book takes a min to get through but after that the books are great!

Irene I have absolutely loved all three.

message 100: by Molly (new) - rated it 5 stars

Molly I read it and im under 18. I understood all of it and thought it was fantastic. My dad recommended it to me and he's a lawyer. I thought it had a great plot and i am currently reading the 2nd one. Hope you choose to read it
