Cathy I already read the first two of the Hunger Games. Liked the first one VERY much, second one, too, but a bit less. I'm working my way through all of the suggestions and really appreciate them!

Cathy Reading The Blue Sword and Loving it!!! Thank you MB!

Alia This is such an awesome list - and although I've read many of those suggested (who knew we all think alike eh?) there's plenty of suggestions here that sound pretty good too! Am definitely giving Septimus Heap a go, and although I'm quite reluctant (read : lazy!) to read books that have already been made into movies I'm going to give Percy Jackson a go! Thanks guys, keep it up!

Allegra I also want to add the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson. It's a series based upon his earlier books When the Wind Blows and The Lakehouse but with major changes. I've only read the first two in the series, but I realized after the first book that I have to pace myself on this series otherwise I'll read them all in one week! Also there's a movie coming out soon combining the first 3 books of the series.

Colleen I'm a die-hard HP fan, too! I liked the Fablehaven series by Brandon Mull (the books get better as the series goes on-- the first isn't my favorite). But Brandon has a new one out that I loved! Beyonders. Highly recommend it! Thanks for this post-- I've gotten a lot of great suggestions for more great reads!

Cathy I'm trying to read The Alchemyst by Michael Scott. It's well written, but Hmmm..... I seem to not want to like this book. I think I have developed an affinity for Harry Potter that makes me dislike other magical books. It's funny. I find myself thinking things like "No, that's wrong. Magic doesn't work that way. That's not the way it happens in Harry Potter." It's as if my imagination has accepted the world of Harry Potter as the "real" magical world. All others are imitations. All I can think is that Rowling painted the world and characters so nicely that I have fully accepted them. It's very odd.

Beth (the one who is) Also the Iron knight Series. I enjoyed equally. it has the same element of surprise that harry potter had.. though completely different in the type of fantasy. julie kalwaga (sp?) I enjoyed even better then Cassandra clare. but my opinion of her kinda died a bit when i read city of fallen angels.

I loved that series, but you do not fall in love with characters as much as the Harry Potter characters because the characters change so drastically.

Weirdology Evil Genius by Catherine Jinks reminds me a lot of Harry Potter. Though it's not a magical story. It's been a while since I read it, though I remember that some of the characters reminded me of Harry Potter characters. The main character, Cadel, is like an evil Harry who goes to a secrete school for evil geniuses. And his mentor reminds me of nicer Snape. He doesn't remain evil though. Like Harry Potter, the main theme is about good and evil and making the right choices. Cadel just takes a very different path to get there than Harry does. I haven't read the sequel yet, so I don't know if that's any good. The book is for children, but I read it at 16 and liked it. The writing isn't immature like a lot of other childrens books, so I think adults can enjoy it too.

I would suggest "The Crown Conspiracy" by Michael Sullivan. This series is the closest I have come to my love of HP :).

Laura Birks I'd like to suggest Shadow of the Wind and The Angels Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafon (on behalf of a some friends who rate them very highly) and the Book Thief by Markus Zusak (which I adored) also if you liked the Hunger Games check out Battle Royale which is similar but I think aimed at an older audience :)

CαthεεBooks Vampire Academy is pretty good! The Hunger Games of course! I heard that Moral Instruments is great, but haven't read it.

I like both Vampire Academy and Hunger Games, I've been meaning to read Mortal Instruments but just always forget, don't have time or just plain doesn't want to...

Lightning Thief is also good...and also Chronicles of Vladimir Tod, fast read, easy, entertaining, a little on the shallow side...

Is Artemis Fowl good?

I loved Artemis FOwl

Cathy Started reading Eldest. Paolini's writing doesn't sit right with me. I often feel that his sentences are awkward. For example: "Ivy strangled the building's ancient walls in foot afte foot of hairy ropes." I don't like his choice of adjectives. Using the word strangled, for example. You'd think that this was going to be a place of great threat to Eragon, but it's not. And what about "Hairy ropes? Does ivy look like hairy ropes?? I try to excuse him because he's young, but it gets tiring.

Cathy Just finished Moonheart. Like it a lot, but JK Rowling still is the BEST!

Kit Ty i've read the lightning thief series.. it's good esp the last book.. but not as greatly written like Harry Potter.. There's just something in the way Rowling writes..very hard to match..

i'd prolly try The Hunger games next, and i hope the story's exciting as well.. :D

Cathy I've been reading The Help. Needed a little change. Liking it!
