Louise | 6 comments Hey folks, I released a new feature that you can find by going here:

http://www.goodreads.com/user/kindle_...

What it does is let you (if you have a 3rd gen Kindle) set your currently reading and already read books on Goodreads automatically through your kindle. So if you're currently reading a book on the kindle and you have sharing turned on in that book, your Goodreads profile will show that you're currently reading that book.

It also will sync your highlights as quotes on Goodreads if you have that featured checked.

Adrianna (nola2london) | 1 comments Oh wow, that seems like a great feature. I was hoping something like that came out, I'll be sure to check it out.

message 3: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) I'm brand new to Kindle but think this would be a great feature. My question i how do you turn on "sharing" for a book?

message 4: by Margaret (new)

Margaret (readingwithmargaret) Thanks for sharing that, didn't know it could do that. I know you can share through facebook though.

message 5: by Kerry (new)

Kerry (kerrymcc) Sheila:
Follow the instructions posted above. When you click on the link above.... there is then a link to the Amazon site. After you sign on with your Amazon ID, click on "My Books" and you will see how to make a book's status etc. available for sharing.

message 6: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) That does sound good. Unfortunately, I have a 2nd Generation Kindle. Maybe eventually. :)

message 7: by Wonderkell (new)

Wonderkell | 12 comments Hi Louise,
Sounds fantastic but when I click on the link I get an error message saying the link does not exist. Is anyone else having problems?
Thanks,
Kellie

message 8: by Louise (new)

Louise | 6 comments Wonderkell, what is the URL of the link you're clicking on?

message 9: by Sheila (last edited Apr 13, 2011 12:28PM) (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Has this worked for anyone? I put in my kindle profile page and thought I would see my currently reading Kindle books show up as currently reading in goodreads but no such luck. Sounds like a great feature though.

message 10: by Wonderkell (new)

Wonderkell | 12 comments Hi Louise,
I managed to do it through my browser rather than the link, so all set now. Thanks!
Kellie

message 11: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Well Kellie you are way smarter than me about doing this. I've only had my Kindle for a few days so I'm choosing to blame it on that, not that I'm clueless, lol

message 12: by Louise (new)

Louise | 6 comments Sheila, when you go to your kindle profile page, do you see that sharing is turned on in the books you're reading?

message 13: by Thea (new)

Thea Atkinson (theaatkinson) | 42 comments does this work for everyone? I'm Canadian and I don't see that yet. hmmm. must dig deeper

message 14: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) I went back and tried it again and this time it worked. Thanks for the help.

message 15: by Wonderkell (new)

Wonderkell | 12 comments Of course you are not clueless Shiela!! I'm glad you got it to work. Tookme a while to figure it out too. Now I'm just trying to figure out what it actually does! I need a little more time with it I think. I'm too busy trying to work on university essays as well as family & work. Its tough being a mature age student!!

message 16: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) I got it to work once but it never has repeated so I gave up.

message 17: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Cotterill (rachelcotterill) It took me a while to figure it out - you need to make sure you're on kindle.amazon.com rather than the main amazon site, and then there's a tick-box by each book to 'share' it. Mine hasn't synched yet...

message 18: by Elie (new)

Elie Harriett Looks like a great feature. Shame you can't get it on a 1st gen DX.

message 19: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Oooo, I will have to check this out.

message 20: by Collette (new)

Collette Tepperberg (candibelle) Is there any way of getting it to work for the 2nd gen? :((

message 21: by K. (new)

K. (eowyn1075) | 35 comments >Is there any way of getting it to work for the 2nd gen? :((

I can't even get it to work on my Kindle 3.

message 22: by Louise (new)

Louise | 6 comments Krista, what part isn't working for you? Is it not updating the books you're reading? Currently, the script will only set a book as "read" if it was on your currently-reading list. That may be why "Crush" and "First Test" was not showing up on your Goodreads updates.

message 23: by Louise (new)

Louise | 6 comments CC wrote: "Is there any way of getting it to work for the 2nd gen? :(("

Unfortunately not. The 2nd gen Kindle doesn't update to the Amazon profile automatically (as far as I can tell on my 2nd gen), which means in order for it to work, you'd have to go to the kindle.amazon.com site and update stuff there manually, which defeats the whole purpose of this syncing imo.

message 24: by Haya (last edited Jun 18, 2011 01:20AM) (new)

Haya Alkhalifa | 3 comments I would love to get this working, but can't figure out why it won't sync I've added the kindle profile URL to goodreads and I've made my books and their notes public but nothing syncs!

message 25: by Julia (new)

Julia (j_eng) I have the newest kindle and put in my url...nothing has happened for me either. :\

message 26: by Tiphanie (new)

Tiphanie Thomas Man, I going to have to get a newer version of Kindle. That sounds so cool!

message 27: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) I've got a new K3 Tiphanie and have not been able to get this feature to work for me and looks like many others have had the same problem.

message 28: by Haya (new)

Haya Alkhalifa | 3 comments Is there anyone who has successfully been able to sync their kindle with goodreads in the past month? Please post here if it's working for you as I'm going crazy trying to get it work!

I've done everything from removing my older kindle devices from my amazon account to rebooting my kindle to changing the country associated with my account but no luck ! No qoutes are synced and no reading progress updated :(

message 29: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (melissa_wy) My Kindle is connected to Goodreads, but no updates show from my Kindle. I even double checked on the link and it says I'm connected....but....no updates???? oh well

message 30: by Pam (new)

Pam | 2 comments I have tried to do this as well and it isn't working for me either. I can't get my goodreads list synced to the amazon kindle site. (It will show any books I have bought from Amazon, but not my goodreads list). BTW, I have a 3rd gen. Kindle.
I also can not see a share button next to my ebooks.
Will continue to read this list in hopes that someone gets it to work. I really want to sync my list.

message 31: by Anne (new)

Anne (reachannereach) The book I am currently reading is not listed under Your Books at Amazon.

message 32: by Louise (new)

Louise | 6 comments Hey guys, I'm aware of the syncing problems, but have been swamped with other things and can't fix it for the time being. Sorry for the inconvenience, but I definitely want to fix this for you.

message 33: by Tiphanie (new)

Tiphanie Thomas Shelia and Melissa, that's crazy that Goodreads works on some Kindles but not all. I wonder if it the Kindle or a software problem. Maybe, Louise knows how to fix it or someone has a suggestion?

message 34: by Pat (new)

Pat (pat_gee) | 14 comments I have the same problem syncing and will be watching too.

message 35: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Thomas (jessicathomas) | 3 comments this is a great fead...i guess we all have those syncing problems

message 36: by Tim (new)

Tim Best | 1 comments I followed all the instructions but it won't sync to my Kindle list of books on Amazon.

message 37: by Ty (new)

Ty | 16 comments This feature is not working for me either.

message 38: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Very cool, I wish it was also available for the K2.

message 39: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I think it may work with my K2 -- here's hoping!

message 40: by Diana (new)

Diana (path2wellness) | 1 comments After I have synced GoodReads to my kindle, how do I turn on sharing on my Kindle? Thanks

message 41: by Ann (Noumena12) (new)

Oh....am I going to need to get a new Kindle??? Of course, I've been holding out waiting for the Amazon Tablet...

message 42: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) This would be totally brilliant if I could get it to work - totally perfect actually!

message 43: by Laura (new)

Laura P Not working for me either

I'm sorry...did you say Amazon Tablet?!!??!!

message 45: by Paul (new)

Paul (latepaul) Is there a way on the Kindle itself to share the book? So far, what happens is that when I start reading a new book it gets added to my profile page but with the sharing off by default, so I have to go to that page to switch on sharing for that book.

If I have to go to a webpage and click a button to switch on sharing then I may as well come here and add it to my to read list manually.

message 46: by Laura (new)

Laura P It's a nice concept ..... if it worked. But I've had no luck using it with my Kindle 3 (latest generation).

message 47: by Victoria (new)

Victoria UK users can use the .com site with the same sign in as their UK one.

message 48: by J.a (new)

J.a | 1 comments does anyone know were i can buy a kindle, asides from online , in mississauga. does future shop sell kindles?

message 49: by Jen (new)

Jen (jenlb) | 50 comments I think that you can get Kindles at some Staples- I think that Future Shop only carries cases.

message 50: by Shaina (new)

Shaina (shainaeg) In the US Target, Best Buy, and Staples all typically stock Kindles and I thought that some Walmarts were supposed to start stocking them at some point. Not sure if you have any of those stores near you but Target always seems to have them in stock.
