Josie (maid_marian) | 100 comments My sister read a series of books when she was younger, and I remember seeing them lying around the house, about a girl who possibly travels back in time or to another land most likely, as she encounters unicorns, who she befriends. The covers always featured the brunette heroine with the silvery unicorns around her, done in a typical fantasy style. They were most probably written in the eighties, and were cheesy (though my sister remembers them fondly)...any ideas? (I know I haven't given much to work with!)

Luann (azbookgal) | 34 comments My first thought was the Unicorns of Balinor series, which starts with The Road to Balinor, but the dates aren't right:

The Road to Balinor (1999)
Sunchaser's Quest (1999)
Valley of Fear (1999)
By Fire, by Moonlight (1999)
Search for the Star (1999)
Secrets of the Scepter (2000)
Night of the Shifter's Moon (2000)
Shadows over Balinor (2000)

So then I thought of The Unicorn Chronicles by Bruce Coville, which starts with Into the Land of the Unicorns. But the dates aren't right for that series, either:

Into the Land of the Unicorns (1994)
Song of the Wanderer (1999)
Dark Whispers (2008)

Edit:
Okay, I just found a unicorn series from the '80s that seems like a likely candidate. It's called Secret of the Unicorn Queen.

Swept Away! (1988) by Josepha Sherman
Sun Blind (1988) by Gwen Hansen
The Dark Gods (1989) by Josepha Sherman
Into the Dream (1989) by Suzanne Weyn
The Final Test (1989) by Dory Perlman
Moonspell (1989) by Gwen Hansen

Any chance one of those series is the one you are looking for?

Josie (maid_marian) | 100 comments Wow, thanks for all your effort, and you'll be glad to know that the third series you mentioned is the right one!

Luann (azbookgal) | 34 comments Hooray! Happy to help out. Now you can go add those books (or maybe just the one or two you remember the most?) to the group bookshelf. :)

Jamie (archer_lady) | 1 comments I am so glad that this post was still "findable". I've been trying to remember that series for months now! Many thanks!
