Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments Across a Moonlit Sea (Dante Pirates, #1) by Marsha Canham
A couple of us want to start a "buddy read" for Across a Moonlit Sea , by Marsha Canham. I've never read anything by her, but this one, with a swashbuckling heroine, sounds good.

Anyone wishing to do so, can join us. We haven't set an exact date, as I waiting to see if I can purchase it in paperback. However, it probably will be within the next week. It is available now, via Kindle, for $6.99.

We will probably set a certain about of pages or chapters per night, going as slow as the slowest reader; however, this is not set in stone.

We may or may not have specific discussion questions. We’ll play it by ear.

Hope you'll join us!

Marsha Canham plans to drop in & chat with us about the book!

Melanie (melaina) | 638 comments In, of course:-D it sounds like a great book!
Try BWB, that's where I got it: they have it at $3.98 (used)! And it should be fast delivery for the US.

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

I believe I have it on my nook. I would love to read it but I am such a slow reader I would be left in the dust. LOL
I could always get a head start. hehe

message 4: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 638 comments We'll wait for you, Faithmarie, if you want to do it with us!:-)

message 5: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments Yes, Faithmarie. We'll wait. How many pages a day/night do you read? (I know you have a big family.)

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

Hahahahahah I read and reread pages over and over again..... soooo it depends. Hee heee Depends.... get it.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

Sometimes I cant sleep and I read a lot and other times .... well I never counted pages and also my nook is on the large print so I don't have a clue. It looks like I am not even making a dent in a book sometimes.

message 8: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments I know. I went to look at the pages of another book, which is on Kindle, I am to buddy read and it said there were like 4,961 locations. I thought that was pages at first, as I had never read the author. My eyebrows went to my hairline and I wondered what I'd gotten myself in for! LOL!

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

LOL

message 10: by Melanie (last edited Apr 09, 2011 08:49AM) (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 638 comments :-) How about by chapters, if you're using an ereader? I think we could maybe set a certain number of chapters a day/week? (this is amateur hour, lol)
I don't even know how Kindle locations actually work! I have one and only use it when I travel..

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

Wow that would be great! But I only know how to turn my nook on!!!!!!!

message 12: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 638 comments Lol, that shouldn't be a problem: ebooks are also split into chapters!:-D

message 13: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments A certain number of chapters a day/night would be good for me. Ohhhh, the bookstore opens in two minutes! I think I'll call first. Otherwise I will do too much damage if I shop alone.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

So read a chapter a day?

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

Okay how many chapters a day. I am up for that.

message 16: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 638 comments I think everyone who signs in should mention how many chapters they're comfortable reading in a day, and then we can decide all together on how many chapters to read a day/week:-) (btw, I'm good for a book/day, so I'll adapt)
That sound ok?

Melanie (melaina) | 638 comments Lisa Kay wrote: "A certain number of chapters a day/night would be good for me. Ohhhh, the bookstore opens in two minutes! I think I'll call first. Otherwise I will do too much damage if I shop alone."

Lol Lisa Kay, I wish we had English bookstores around here, although it'd probably be a massacre if they had one and I knew about it:-)

message 18: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (chijan) I'm in. I have been wanting to read this. I have it on my Kindle so I am ready to go.

message 19: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 638 comments Cool Lynn:-) How many chapters a day are you comfortable with?

message 20: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (chijan) Depends, 3-4 maybe more. I should be able to read a lot more soon. Is that too slow.

message 21: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 638 comments Nothing is too slow, we're still getting organized (it's our first buddy read, so we're figuring things out).. Lisa Kay will let us know when we should start, but it'll probably be in 2/3 days..
We just need to get everyone's reading speed noted so we can set the number of chapters to read every day:-)

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

WHen do we start?
I am reading days of gold right now.

message 23: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 638 comments Within the next week:-) We're going to see if Lisa Kay can get the paperback, but we'll let everyone know when we set a date!

BTW, Faithmarie, how many chapters can you do a day?

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

3 or 4 or more if I have to.... I just won't do any house work or visit the grandchildren.... tee hee

message 25: by Melanie (last edited Apr 09, 2011 11:09AM) (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 638 comments There are 27 chapters in the book, so unless someone else shows up reading more slowly, we could probably read it in a week if we read 4 chapters a day:-D

W..."

It's funny- I have control over my spend on books but once I start one it's like a box of chocolates- very difficult to put down. I couldn't do the discipline of a set volume to read a day.

message 27: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (chijan) I feel like a slowpoke here. Usually when I read a book that I love I normally can't put it down, but with this last book I am literally struggling to finish it I will definitely make more time for this one.

message 28: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 638 comments Mshj wrote: "Melanie wrote: "Nothing is too slow, we're still getting organized (it's our first buddy read, so we're figuring things out).. Lisa Kay will let us know when we should start, but it'll probably be ..."

Lol, it's my first buddy read, and I almost always read a book straight through as well, so I don't know how I'm going to handle the waiting:-D

BTW, worse case scenario, we could always just say that we have to read the book in a week, then meet up and talk about it when we're all done (different option)

message 29: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (chijan) This is my first buddy too. I am really looking forward to this. Bad thing is that I have alot going on in the next couple of weeks. But hell, who needs to sleep?

message 30: by Lisa Kay (last edited Apr 09, 2011 03:20PM) (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments I'm back from the bookstore and I was very, very bad. Then I went out to lunch and had Chinese food while they played sixies rock and roll featuring English bands and I started Highlander Ever After (Nvengaria, #3) by Jennifer Ashley . That's me: world travler. LOL!

Anywayz, the evil nice man at B&N told me if I ordered the book there in the store it would arrive faster than if I did it from home on my compter. So, AAMS should be on my doorstep on Tuesday, 4/11 or Wednesday, 4/12 at the latest.

I see there's been a lot of discussion about how many chapters to read a day. I'm fine with most anything, unless I get a terrible migraine. I have pills & shots, so I should be alright.

Another option, for those who want to read ahead, is to just not discuss the later chapters in the book. This may be hard for some people who can't keep their mouths shut - or rather fingers typing from spilling the beans. I could do a breakdown chapter/date posting on the first comment in this thread so everyone will know where everyone is suppose to be.

Oh, I soooo excited!

I am fine with that. I am ready. So we start around 4/12?
Lisa you are hilarious!

message 32: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments I have received two emails from B&N already, the last stating my books have been sent. Wonder if they'll get here Monday?! The clerk said I might. For now, lets play it by ear, but shoot for Tuesday or Wednesday.

I'll wait to post the breakdown until we see if anyone else wants to join in! I know Autumn is interested, but I don't know her work schedule.

P.S. Faithmarie, You're pretty hilarious yourself. (view spoiler)

message 33: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 638 comments Lol Lisa Kay, I'm up for any option! It might be a good idea to do a date/chapter posting:-) Let us know as soon as you get AAMS, and we'll start!

BTW, can't keep this to myself: I'm so psyched, I might have found a really cute appartment in NYC for uni next year!!:-D Just found out tonight! Cross your fingers for me!

message 34: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments Melanie, Considered them crossed! (P.S. uni, means university?)

message 35: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 638 comments Yep, Fordham U for a year (maybe two), then I'm already accepted to Emory (Georgia) in 2012 if I want:-D Thanks for the crossed fingers LK!!
