SOLVED: "Evil" elves that live underground... [s]

I was reading a series of books, and I can't figure out the name of them or the author.

The first book is about an elf and his family that live underground. His family, and other "royal families" are always raiding each others houses to gain superiority. I believe they're night elves, blood elves, shadow elves...something like that.

He doesn't like the violent life, and ultimately escapes and befriends a mining nome (?) that live underground, as well, that helps him find his way to the ground. Ground elves banned the night elves from coming up to the ground hundreds of years ago...but he becomes acclimated to the sun and overcomes hurdles along the way....blablabla...

THe second book was about how he travels to some ice village and befriends more nomes/trolls and helps them defeat their enemies...

Any ideas? Please help...

np, it saved me from a few minutes of thinking about the elderly person I was screaming at on the phone, helping them set up their outlook express...*twitch* been a long few weeks since we added florida, to the queue, lol. And I *live* in florida.
