All three are pretty strong series so far [though each only has two books out]. I rate them pretty close to the Dresden Files.

Harry Connolly- Child of Fire (already mentioned by JK)
Warren Ellis- Crooked Little vein
Carey, Mike The Devil You Know
Clay&Susan Mitchell- The Greyfriar
Richard Kadrey- Sandman Slim (already mentioned by JK)
T A Pratt- Blood Engines
Simon Green- Something From the Nightside
Acevedo, Mario Nymphos of Rocky Flats
Brite, Poppy Z Lost Souls
Garton, Ray Live Girls
Gottlieb, Sherry Love Bite
Henry, Mark Happy Hour of the Damned (zombies)
Lewis, J F Staked (sarcastic vamp)
Simmons, William Mark One Foot in the Grave
Williams, Liz The Snake Agent

Other good series:
The Cal Leandros series by Rob Thurman
Simon R. Green's Nightside series

I have Mark Del Franco in my TBR but I haven't read him yet.
I read

The Cal Leandros series by Rob Thurman is also good Nightlife.
So is Dog Days by John Levitt and A Kiss Before the Apocalypse by Thomas E. Sniegoski.

I also enjoyed Child of Fire. It has a Jim Butcher feel, although it has less humour than Sandman Slim or Dresden Files

According to the reviews it's not not fluffy but a complex read. The first book is A Madness of Angels.
Dresden Files is one of my favourites and Mike Carey's Felix Castor series is good too.

Excellent, it was a pretty fun read. It's pretty fast paced, dark sometimes, lots of banter and action, and Stark is the same badass as in Sandman Slim, but somehow more melancolic, and still thinking of Alice. Beware that a lot of the plot is a set up for the next book, although there's no cliffhanger at the end.
Ah, and there are lots of zombies :D

I loved this book, and I look forward to two more books scheduled for release this summer:

Atticus is a 1200 year old Druid who looks like a college student. He has a vampire and a werewolf for lawyers. His life has been full of characters from myth and legend, as well as just plain normal humans like his neighbors.

Thanks. Now I really can't wait to read the second book, I've had that itch bad since I finished the first one. The thought of zombies slows me down some though, which is kinda good. I really don't like zombies...

I'd also suggest Justin Gustainis. I think he and Jim Butcher are either friends or there's some kind of mentor relationship going on. Dresden's pub makes an appearance in the second book in Gustainis' series.

I will give a vote to the Mike Carey "Felix Castor" series.
I will be watching this thread for other authors to try between Dresden
books.

I have read all his books, except the last one which came out April 26 and is still on my TBR pile.
The Conner Grey series:

and the Laura Blackstone series:

I have Mark Del Franco in my TBR but I haven't read him yet.
I read

I also really enjoyed Ill Wind, and have already purchased the second.
I read the beginning of Laura Anne Gilman's Hard Magic, the first book in the Paranormal Scene Investigations. It sounds like a really cool series; I think I may be reading it (eventually). It sounds like something that you would be interested in, Robert.

Sweet Silver Blues the beginning of the Garrett P.I. series but haven't started it yet

Action with a little humor
Simon R Green - Nightside and Secret Histories series.
Nick Pollotta - Bureau 13 Series
Charles Stross - Laundry Files Series
Anton Strout - Simon Canderous Series
Rob Thurman - Cal Leandros series (the books steadily improve)
Robert Asprin - Griffin McCandles series
I really wanted to like the Charlie Huston Joe Pitt series but it was a bit too depressing for me. (Though I did read all of the books)
Mike Carey - Felix Castor series (first two books were outstanding)
Cherie Priest - Cheshire Red (Vampire) and Clockwork Century Series (Steampunk)
F Paul wilson - Repairman Jack Series
Mark Del Franko - Connor Grey Series
Lincoln Child - Pendergast series
Richard Kadrey - Sandman Slim Series
Harry Connelly - Twenty Palaces series
Thomas E Sniegoski - Remy Chandler series
