Mmmm hmmmm! YUMMO!

heh... that's what I thought.

I know, I'm halfway through, and they haven't reappeared. I'm disappointed.

I missed them too, but he kinda made up for it with his choice of undergarments *blushes*...I don't know if I can be sophisticated discussing this book, can't think straight, they melted my mind with the hotness...and the second one is just as hot... :O)

Do men really go around wearing jock straps for underwear?

I'm not really sure, but on a super hot Navy SEAL, it's just a happy picture in my head :OP

Liam is just a happy picture in my head. I loved the leather vest, too. *sigh*

Merith, Most of my comments are good, but yeah, a few random ones are kind of sitting on the fence. I still really enjoyed the book though!

The overall level of writing is quite high. The downside of that is it allows us to get picky and critique the book as a mainstream selection, which (frankly) we don't typically do with m/m titles. I mean, if we're honest? I think we all tend to cut these books quite a bit of slack.
But when we come across someone who can actually write...we start to bear down and really dig in.
Or am I smoking crack again?

There's a lot of crack smoking in this group.....
I didn't think of it that way, but I agree. It's kind of a relief to have a book we can actually critique on literary merit. I loved his writing style -- it's very unassuming, almost quiet, but somehow he managed to set the scene easily.

My brain melts because of Liam and outdoor shower and nipple rings, so I can't even remember most of my niggles...

I'm not exactly sure how, Cleon, but you just made 'niggles' a very naughty word, at least for me.

Ummmm I'm gonna have to agree...I really loved this book, and read the second one just as soon as I finished #1, so that says a lot. It was not perfect, but there were a lot of things I liked...I can be really picky about books on Africa or the Middle East, because sometimes they're so off base about culture, life, GEOGRAPHY that I can barely keep reading...this book was pretty good about that...anyways when are we supposed to start talking about this??

Cleon!! I'm trying to be all reflective about the book and now all I can think of are nipple rings, outdoor showers, and jocks...Liam is so hot *sighs*

Oh I agree. There's a lot of M/M stories I'll give a pass, because I don't think of them as being worthy. That the author knows they're just being written for certain things; to not take them seriously. However, when you can feel the author has taken pains to write something well, you do feel let down when you come across something that shouldn't be there.
My 'niggle' happens more toward the end. Most of the story is fantastic, riveting and interesting. But, I'll wait until next week. :)

And I am not exactly sure why, but I feel so accomplished by that. :D

I thought the same thing. Can't wait for everybody's thoughts about this book.
Jockstrap... hey where did that come from?...

next Saturday May 21st

LOL... "niggles" does sort of rhyme with "nipples" so that's probably where that came from, but yeah, reading that made me want to giggle!
Josh, I think you hit the nail on the head there. Most m/m or at least half of it, we do let slide because it's not as good as it could be, but find someone who can write well and... yeah...
Surprisingly enough, one of my friends ventured into m/m about two months ago, and she hated the book. It was poorly written and there was too much graphic sex for her. But yesterday, while we were doing the writing challenge, she needed to read something different from the short stories she was working on, and grabbed an m/m off my unread pile. She actually said she liked it, that it was much better than the other. I was relieved by that, because I didn't think she'd ever read another m/m again after the first, and I didn't want the whole genre to look bad because of one book. There are so many good ones out there... like Three Wrong Turns.
Yeah, my niggles (*giggles*) were small and easy to let slide too. But I'll wait to talk about them, even though I want to launch into something asap! lol. The second book is on my to-read list, as well as every other book he's ever written, so that says something awesome about Neil and his writing right there!

You should! ;)
Well...is anyone still reading or have we all finished it? If we're all finished reading -- well, come to think of it, I'M still reading! :-D
So I guess we do have to wait a couple more days.

I bought the 'all twelve in one' paperback :)
It has its own place on my dresser (if you can call it that), but I'm trying not to read them all at once.

That's what I should have done apparently. I didn't realize I'd have to buy the rest separately T_T
Or, maybe I will buy all-in-one if it's cheaper.

Where did you find them in electronic format???? I know Borders has a listing, but it always comes up unavailable for purchase (and that is only the first book)

I got it from Amazon.co.uk for less than $15,=
Not bad for 12 detectives, I thought (even if they're bound in one book) :)
The third one will be out in a month or two according to Neil...Teach Me Tonight, sends them on assignment together to a summer study program in Bizerte, on the Mediterranean coast, to protect a student who has been threatened. Aidan rediscovers how much he loves teaching, and Liam's friend Joey shows up... leading to all kinds of complications!

Where??????
@Lora, Emanuela: I think I bought it on http://www.bookdepository.co.uk (I deleted the bill so I can't be sure)
I searched and also found it on http://www.diesel-ebooks.com/author/H... , https://www.ebookmall.com/main/orders... and http://www.powells.com/biblio/95-9780... (if you're in USA)

Huh? I only see one new for 66.51£ (O_o) and used for 33+ £. And this is before shipping. I'll search other sellers

Ah, right..so it WAS bookdepository after all. It was very annoying, now I remember. I didn't know about calibre then and I ended up reading in PDF.. ugh... I'm sorry, I don't know if calibre will convert it :/
