Madelon (madelonw) Hi Desiree,

I'm glad that paper is written. I knew you could do it!

I have accepted both your friend request and have joined your group.

Behind the scenes, I am working on creating a book blog to feature writers of fiction that have caught my attention. Some of them are new and upcoming, others have been around for a while and, IMHO, are underappreciated.

Good luck with the exam!

Nice!! I have created my own blog on Newbery Award and Honor Book titles as well. We could read each others blogs and comment on each other's book thread. Oh, I am having so much more fun than on stupid Facebook. Finally, some conversations and interaction. :)

message 1303: by Madelon (new)

Madelon (madelonw) I used to feel as you do about Facebook. Then I deleted my original, overly bloated with stupidity, account and started a new one. I learned to be very selective in accepting friend requests. As you have probably determined, I am both a reader and a writer. I am also a fractal artist and a vocal progressive, liberal woman. I would say these four things are pretty much the defining factors in my life right now. I think my Facebook friends and newsfeed reflect all of this pretty well.

I would love to add you as a friend on Facebook! I too enjoy good conversation whether face to face or keyboard to keyboard.

I will definitely let you know when I get my blog up and running. I am aiming for before year end. It would probably already be up and running had it not been for a dreadful personal tragedy this past August. My son, 33 years old, with a wife and two babies, drowned. I have good days and bad. On the good days I can read an write. On the bad days I often write to feel more connected to the world. Starting this dialog with you has been one of the really good things in recent memory.

PS: On Facebook, I'm Mad Wilson

WOW! I am sorry for your loss. I know how loss can affect a person's ability to focus and "be" active socially. I am also having my own bad and good days. I have become sick with an unknown illness. It is an auto-immune disease. I have found myself writing about it on both Goodreads and Facebook. I feel writing is my lifeline toward finding solace and refining my ability to focus socially and on family. I am also currently on disability, so I haven't worked since the beg of the academic year. Hang in there. It will get better, slowly over time, but you will find yourself in the interaction of the world. I will friend you Mad Wilson.

message 1305: by Madelon (new)

Madelon (madelonw) Dealing with illness, especially when the word unknown factors into the equation, is never a good thing. I wrestled with a medical issue for several months this year, but I was lucky enough to find the right doctor to diagnose and treat the problem. I have a dear friend who suffers from multiple auto-immune diseases, and she has to be ever so careful around people who have colds and other minor ailments the rest of us can pretty much ignore. I do hope that your unknown becomes a definite diagnosis and that you find a great doctor... one you trust and respect... to help you through a truly difficult time.

I haven't worked since September 30, 2009... That was the day my "I've hat it!" with this job officially kicked in and I retired. It's a long story from then to now, but we can surely correspond our way through more getting to know each other.

I always feel like good karma has happened when I meet someone, whether in the real world or the virtual one, with whom I can share and listen and find myself on common ground with them. A similar thing happened a little more than a year ago with someone on Facebook. She and I had even started to make plans to meet up in Las Vegas for a face to face chance to really get to know each other. I know that people get really freaked out by such meetings... online to the real world... but I have to say that all of my online friends who have become real world friends turned out to be exactly the sort of folks I expected.

Be well!

Desiree' (sequoia01) | 13 comments Awesome. That sounds great. I would like to meet in real world. In December sometime, after finals. Yeah, my medical situation isn't fun, but I am the only one doing all of the medical research on myself. I have determined it to be endocrine problem with multiple problems: Cushing's Syndrome (adrenal gland), thyroiditis, and pituitary tumors. Nice isn't it. At least I have something to research more in terms of where to start.

Kate Goodrum (kateemilyrose) Hello! I've just joined the group. I write about books, art, lectures and film etc on my blog www.kategoodrum.com Let me know what you think - my blog is still fairly new so there is lots to improve and I appreciate any feedback!

Emilia (bookbug2012) | 18 comments Hello Everyone!
Just joined this group hoping to polish my reviewing "skills" :)
Seems like there are two things I enjoyed in my life since whenever I can remember - reading and writing :) Because at a certain point in my life I had to switch languages - I lost a good deal of the fluidity of thought if you will - I'm hoping that writing reviews AND reading will help me gain it all back... as one of my "forever dreams" was to write a book...
I write a total of 3 blogs, the reviewing one being this one:
https://bookbug2012.wordpress.com

I'd appreciate a constructive criticism and/or any feedback!

Mike Robbins (mikerobbins) | 24 comments Hi everyone - I review books on Goodreads but put the most interesting ones on my blog, sometimes in the form of a short feature article (I'm an ex-journalist). The blog is about anything that interests me, but lately it's been mostly book reviews. I am a serious bookworm.

Maria | 1 comments Hi, Everyone!

I'm working for an Author and getting paid to help him get reviews for his book. I'm on here, looking to find out how to best get along and actively and positively participate in this community. I am working for an indie author who is older and requires assistance, that's why I'm getting paid for this work.

He has written a book, very, very loosely based upon his experiences with law, politics and real estate in high stakes local politics and it's very unusual (and highly fictionlized). It's in Beta right now and if you would like to help me understand how best to get reviews for a book in Beta, I will be forever grateful. The story won't change, but the proofreading is still in progress,

Please feel free to email me (that might be best, actually) but I will check back here for comments or replies to me, as that is the most convenient way for you! If you want to email me, please say "Goodreads reviews" in the subject line and I'll know it has something to do with this post. My email address is tribecan.yearling@gmail.com. The book is "Vengeful Unhinged" and is listed here, but I have yet to learn how to post links to it on here! I could use a site mentor!!

God Bless you all and thank you for all you do for the world of publishing. I have never appreciated you guys more than I do right now.

~Mariateresa

Thank you. I have never been in such groups. How do I find out if anyone answered to my post?
Thanks for letting me know.

☾ Liz ☆ Stellar Kitten Book Reviews ☆ This group should be fun haha, especially once school finishes off and I get my free time back. I started up a blog to review books I read as a way for me to actually get back into reading regularly, and because my friend encouraged me after she started up her own on Wordpress.

Kevin Macdonald (kevinsread-feed) Hello :) I love to read and write, and recently I've begun writing reviews again! I'm pretty open to receiving requests to review books that may otherwise not garner much attention, and although my blog doesn't have a whole lot of viewers, I've been consistently seeing more traffic since I began posting!

Here's a link to my site for book reviews: http://macdonaldreviews.blogspot.ca/

I'm always open to constructive criticism or talking about books I've reviewed or books I should review!

I'm glad I found a group like this as well :)

Happy reading and writing everyone!!

message 1325: by Jack (new)

Jack Knapp | 1 comments I'm an author and also a reviewer.
My rules are simple: if a book doesn't grab my interest in a hurry, I delete it. I will not review it, because I didn't read it. I view this as the equivalent of taking a book off the shelf, looking at it, then putting it back.
If the book is interesting enough to keep me entertained to the end, it deserves at least 3 stars. I have given lower-ranked reviews, but those come about through special circumstances such as incomplete books (not mentioned when I bought it) or books with a new cover/title that don't indicate previous publication.
Most of my reviews are therefore four or five stars. I review under the same name that I publish, Jack L Knapp, so I suspect I've hurt myself; someone may review one of my books as a revenge tactic. So be it.
I haven't posted many Goodreads reviews; as a general rule, I post on Amazon, because that's where I got the book.
As an author: I have 16 novels and a novella on Amazon, some compilations, audiobooks on Audible and Apple, and a dozen are in paperback editions. I'm working on adding more when I take time out from my work-in-progress. I'd love to get more reviews and if you want to discuss one of my books privately, I'm happy to do that too.

April Peter (aprilpeter) Hi everyone, my name is April. I'm here to pomote my new picture book series for kids, "Like a Girl". It's an 11 books series about different professions, self esteem, being part of your community, and picking a job that inspires you. Book 1 is an intro, and it's free on Kindle Unlimited. Each one of the other 10 books tells the story of a different profession, such as doctor, pilot, farmer, mechanic, astronaut etc. They're all illustrated in the form of a show-and-tell scrapbook with hand drawn and 3D graphics. You're all invited to take a look on the Amazon store and let me know if you're interested in a reviewer's copy. Honest reviews will, of course, be warmly welcomed but not required.

Sean Bai | 3 comments Hi.

I just joined this group.

I've been reviewing books for about five years now.

You can read my reviews here: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

I am not a professional book reviewer, which means I don't accept requests for reviews. This is just something I do in my own time.

I review pretty much all books I purchase or download for free because I believe people should know whether a book is good or not, but I make sure to leave fair reviews. I don't insult authors or their intelligence.

I wrote my first (military science fiction) book and just published it. It's called Whispers of War (Aliens Among the Stars Book 1).

https://relinks.me/B08PSN6155

Blurb:

War.

An alien war.

The catlike alien asked the humans to fight in an alien war.

Can you believe that?

An alien research vessel crashed on Earth 5,000 years ago, throwing our solar system into a temporal bubble. No time has passed outside our solar system.

It is now 2030, ten years after a government shutdown that never ended.

A blood-red alien almost killed Terry Chang. The feline alien saved his life. Now he and his friends must head into space, where five alien species are at each other's throats.

Can a crew of humans and aliens stop an intergalactic war before it's too late?

If you liked the Expeditionary Force and Earthrise Series, Ender's Game, and Stargate, you'll like this.
