When buying a book from a series or trilogy, do you buy one at a time or do you buy the whole lot at once?

I guess for most, I don't much care. Trilogy or series. Probably because I've picked up enough that were bad so I'm more than a little leery of getting more than one of an unknown. When I do find one I like I'm not sure if I care if they're all the same edition or not. Yeah, it's been that long since I've found a trilogy/series I was willing to buy more than one.
It depends. Sometimes on Kindle they with have the series bundles and you can get th whole series for a cheaper set price. I have bought 4 series like that. Or if I can find the whole series for cheap on Ebay I may do that. I've done it once or twice when I decided to relive my childhood and reread series I loved as a kid.
I don't have to buy it all at once, but I can't start to read a series until I have the first few books. I am very anal that I have to read the series in order and I am addicted to collecting series.
I usually only buy the first book. If I like it, I buy the next two-three at once, but I have to read one to decide if I want to go on with the series or not. If the series is longer than 3-4 books, I may even buy 2 books before I decide, since first books in that case don't always give away the real feeling of the series.
I usually buy the first one, then if I really like it I'll go ahead and buy the others. Then I create a Collection by the series name on my Kindle so I have them all together.
I try to buy the full trilogy for the most part. if I can find it for a good price, if not I search for the next one in the series. I hate loving a book and not having the next in line. Its different when its a series vs a trilogy for me, I tend to buy the 1st one in the series to see if I like it...but triologis like Mortal Instruments and Hunger Games, I knew I needed them all!
I usually buy them all at once. I've gotten pretty good at deciding on whether I will like a book or not by reading the synopsis. I like to have them all so I can read at my own rate and have the next book right there.
I would buy the first one in case i didnt like the series.I made the mistake once after reading the 1st book in the "Dark Tower" series by buying the next 3 books, as i really liked the 1st one. But halfway thru the 3rd one i just lost interest and was very disappointed with it.
Usually I'll read and buy new books in a series I really like as they come out. If I'm not sure, I'll read it from the library and then buy it. If I've just discovered at the library a series that has been out for a while, I'll usually try to buy as many of the older books as cheaply as I can as quickly as I can after I have read them from the library and then start buying the new books as they come out. I like to have complete sets in my library, be they series or trilogy, because I really like to reread.
I buy the first book, read it and if I like it I buy how ever many I can afford/get my hands on at the time. Like The Hunger Games, I picked up the first from borders, then when I finished it I loved it so much I jumped on Amazon and ordered Catching Fire and Mockingjay (which had just come out).
I just recently purchased books 3-5 of the Dark Days series by Jocelynn Drake. As you know some of the Borders Bookstores are going out of business and they were having a great sale so I took advantage. I have only read Book One in the series and I really enjoyed it. If I don't like it; I can always pass it on to the library or giveaway. So really its a win-win situation.
Well, I bought the whole Hunger Games since it was on a special deal , but usually I would buy the first book and see If I liked it then go back the next day or the following week and buy the rest. It's all a matter of likening the book and them having it in stock. =)
Start with one, but if that is going well, I will pick up others before I'm done with it so I can just keep going.

As for series, that's a little tougher, due to the cost factor. If the series is something like The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan, I would typically buy maybe three at a time, thus saving at least a little bit of money. When I finish reading those three, I go and get the next three, and so on.
