I just discovered Shelfari:
http://www.shelfari.com/
Shelfari is similar to Goodreads in its purpose, but I've that heard it's simpler.
The Home page says: "Shelfari is a community-powered encyclopedia for book lovers.
Create a virtual bookshelf, discover new books, connect with friends and learn more about your favorite books – all for free."
Anyway, I found a funny feature there today. It provides what they call a "Ridiculously Simplified Synopsis". For example, about Love in the Time of Cholera, it says:
================================================
(view spoiler)["Boy meets girl. Girl rejects boy. Boy stays obsessed with girl through 622 affairs and 50+ years." (hide spoiler)]
===============================================

I really got a kick out of that. It's so true.
Evidently the "Ridiculously Simplified Synopsis" feature is written by the members of Shelfari. So not all books show such a summary. Instead, members are given the opportunity to write such a synopsis. On the book's page, it says: "Write a ridiculously simplified synopsis."
I haven't explored Shelfari much further than this. But it looks like an interesting place.
