All over the world The Phantom of The Opera is known for its dramatic/passionate/tragic/ love story.
There are "orginial casts" ie: London, Canadian,Korean,"The Orginial Broadway"ect..all have their "version" of Erik,Christine,Raoul, Which ones have you seen? Did you like one of the actors/actress better in one than the other? How did one play differ from the other? And the music..did it do the same for you as another you saw?

L. (weavelin) | 34 comments I've only listened to it a few times, but I'm not a fan of the Canadian cast recording. Colm Wilkinson will forever be Jean Valjean in my head and his style just doesn't really work for me outside of Les Mis. Everything else is sort of unremarkable..

The Vienna cast recording is probably my favorite out of all of them: the Christine's vibrato isn't too warbly, the Phantom has an interesting voice, and the Raoul's excellent as well. It's also got the full Hannibal rehearsal, which always makes me happy, plus really full orchestral textures. This is the only cast recording on my MP3 player~!

Ingrid Colm Wilkinson has always been my favorite. He is both Phantom and Valjean. He can get away with that in my world. He was the phantom until my good friend showed me a certain Korean youtube video... Which I have already linked. Korean is now my new special favorite.

Sharon (fiona64) Colm Wilkinson was actually the original Phantom -- he was the one who workshopped the show. Steve Harley, from Cockney Rebel, was pretty much promised the role -- and it went to Michael Crawford (whose reedy tenor really does nothing for me).

Byron Nease, who is Raoul on the Canadian recording, is a brilliant talent (and, I hasten to point out, one of the nicest men you'd ever want to know).

My favorite Phantom voice from any of the international casts is Yuichiro Yamaguchi, from Japan. Yamaguchi-san has a beautiful baritone.

Gemma | 277 comments My favorite original Phantom is probably Colm Wilkinson. The first time I heard the Canadian recording of Music of the Night, I was blown away. Having never heard anything from Les Mis., I had no previous associations to work with. However, the Canadian cast is not my favorite, period. That place is reserved for the movie (I'm on the minority, it seems, but oh well). I have to say, though, I do love John Owen-Jones and Hugh Panaro.

Sharon (fiona64) My favorite stage Phantom, now and always, will be Earl Carpenter ... followed by Franc d'Ambrosio. :-)

L. (weavelin) | 34 comments Eh, just because Colm Wilkinson workshopped Phantom at Sydmonton doesn't make him the original, IMHO. Crawford's still the original Phantom, irregardless.

My favorite Phantoms are still Alexander Goebel and definitely John Owen-Jones. I've never heard anything from JOJ I didn't like~!
