I'm considering reading this because I love the vampire genre (Interview with the Vampire, the Sookie Stackhouse series), but I hated, hated, LOOATHEDDD Twilight. So am I wasting my time reading this book?

I've never read Twilight (and I don't really plan to), but trust me, you are NOT wasting your time with this book. It doesn't focus so much on the vampires, exactly, as much as it does the dhampirs (half-vampires, if you weren't sure), but it's pretty kick-ass.
Ok good, I'll give it a shot. As long as it doesn't spend 200+ pages on the point of view of some whiny, crazy-obsessed teenage girl in love, and as long as vampires don't GLITTER, then I'm fine with it. :)
No. It's not like Twilight. Rose kicks butt and isn't some damsel in distress. There are so many characters to really like in this book. The only way it's like Twilight is a love triangle, which most books have nowadays. It's so much better.
I'm with the others. This series is WELL WRITTEN. I enjoy the series greatly. I loathe Twilight and I've read the first couple of books.
Hi! I think everyone answered your question, but i must put my two cents as well. This series is nothing compared to Twilight. I read both series and VA series definitely surpasses Twilight. You will enjoy reading this series. For i just brought the last 2 books and cant wait to read them. Have fun and enjoy!
NO! Not even close, Vampire Academy is way better than twilight. Read the first chapter and you will fall in love with the characters, and you want even want to get up and go to the bathroom becuase the book is so good.
Definitely this is a totally different series than Twilight. So, if you enjoy vampire series, you could very well enjoy this too. Compared to the others you read you may find this a bit juvenile in the dialogue, however, it is a young adult book, so it is the nature of that genre.Personally I loved the Twilight series, but for completely different reasons than most vampire series. It was a teenage love story with vampires. The teenager in me (waaaay down in me - - I'm much older than that now!!) found the way the characters were written was so true to the way my feelings were as a teen. Feelings that I now look back on and laugh at, sure, but still, very true for the time. I despise the whole 'phenomenon' of Twilight, and don't care to have any paraphernalia, thank you very much. But for what it was, I quite enjoyed it. Still, I could certainly see how others would not.

SO TRUE!
SO TRUE!
agreed complete different. Ever since the twilight incident I'm very particular about vampire novels these days but this is one that has a perfect blend of romance without being too mushy and action.
it's not even close!! it's way better than Twilight, although the Twilight books were good before they got mutilated by the movies.
Most def not.Bella does not have a backbone.
Rose can kick ass.
Trust me. This is much better than Twilight.
Twilight and VA Are not at all alike !!! I love both of the series but as sun said Rose can kick ass and Bella doesn't even have a backbone !!! I Thought I can't say about which one is better coz I think that's quite a personal choice but for me Va was a little more enjoyable then Twilight
I LOVE Vampire Academy. Rose is one of the coolest characters I've read in a while. She's so multi-faceted that you feel like she's a friend you've known your whole life. One of my favorite things about the series is the humor; each character has their own little quirks that make them unique. I don't believe you'll regret reading this series. You will, without a doubt, enjoy meeting Adrian. ;-) I did.
VA is soooooooo much better than twilight i read the twilight books when they ame out and was disapointed i was introduced to VA books a few months ago and i cant get enough of them bella was full of selfpity and lacked any back bone where rose comes across alot more rounded and grounded she dose what she needs to be done and makes no appoligies for it
VA IS REALLY, REALLYY, REALLY GOOD...I RECOMEND IT TO EVERYBODY..I FALL UNDER ITS SPELL AND ITS AMAISING...//ITS NOT LIGHT TWILIGHT AT ALL TO ME///BUT BY THE WAY:::IN MY OPINION ROSE SHOULD BE WITH ADRIAN AND NOT DIMITRI:):):).........BUT THATS MY OPINION...YOU ALL SHOULD READ IT:x:x:x:***

I love all of her works! You can't make a mistake reading this series, and also her other works as well!
HELL NO, it is nothing like twilight, I hate how people dare to even compare it, VA is one of the most amazing series that i have ever read
I finished the whole series and no, it is definitely not the same even if it is about vampires and everything. It is awesome and the characters are unique, they have their own style. Definitely recommending it to people. The first book may not be that cool but as you keep reading, you seriously fall in love with it.
Vampire Academy is on the opposite end of Twilight. Here the heroine Rose Hathaway kicks ass, funny and independent. Unlike Bella who is the one who always needs to be saved, Rose is the one doing the saving here. The guy Dimitri (I so love him) doesn't sparkle. He has this dark, badass, alluring aura around him and he's really a superb fighter. The story isn't even really all about their against all odds love life (though it's still presents, it's not nauseatingly always about that)...Definitely better than Twilight. Most favorite vampire series.

these books are amazing, it is all about adventure and has a cool new look on vampires. it also includes romance but you can't help but love the main character Rose who is in no way perfect which makes her so much more loveable and in someways you can probably relate to her feelings. but it is nothing like twilight (thank God). i really recommend reading them, i just couln't put them down :)

this book is nothing like twilight...in fact there is no book like twilight!! why does everyone think that if it has vampires its going to be writen like twilight!! VA has NOTHING to do with twilight!!
then books don;t even compare. there is way more action in va the book will drag u in and won't let go:)
I love Vampire Academy. I had my older sister read them (30yrs old) because she kept on rereading Twilight and i kept on telling her that VA was so much better. So i let her borrow my books and as soon as she started reading she kept on asking me questions about what was going to happen next. Its really a book you can't put down. Now she stopped obsessing over Twilight and she's into VA, thank god.

Very true!
Very true!
I read this book and found it to be an "R" rated Harry Potter. It has taken me a year to recover so I may pick up the second volume and go back in time to when I attended high school. Except for the diet the similarities are startling.
The VA is an amazing series it is my favorite and i love it i really like twilight but this is nothing like it they r totaly OPPOSITE
NO DEFINATELY NOT THIS IS NO WHERE NEAR IT IS SO MUCH MORE BETTER THAN TWILIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DEFINATELY SHOULD BE A MOVIE!!!!
Ok, just started reading it and I like it so far. Except, I'm 9 pages in and there's been mentions of "hot guys" twice already. I'm trying not to judge too early, but when a book opens with "hot guy rubbing sun tan oil on me" and "under different circumstances [...] I would have thought he was hot" (which was completely unnecessary in effectively describing the character) it's hard not to pre-judge. But whatevs, you all love it, so I'll keep on reading! I'm sure I'll like it too.
I loved this series. It's easy to forget that they are vampires. It's more about the characters and their everyday lives. It just takes place in a vampire world setting. Sounds weird but sometimes I would forget that Lissa, Christian, etc were vampires:) Loved the characters and loved the story. It was easy to get attached to them and follow what happens to them. Eventhough there are six books, it went fast! Don't let the number six worry you. Love, love Dimitri:)
