::spit take::

That made me laugh, because they totally did! Unfortunately, it's not the most atrocious thing in the article. :)

The one good piece of news in there is that Scott Brown will not vote to defund Planned Parenthood.

message 5: by Lori (new)

Lori Scott Brown is turning out to be quite a surprise. The GOP hates him because he doesn't groove automatically with the party line. And he's on record as saying that, duh, it's a Dem admin, work with them.

I thought you were right on point, in my opinion.

Exactly! It's just so shitty... and I've been in a Pregnancy Resource Center (for some hardcore undercover journalism in high school). They just showed me a closet full of super cute baby clothes and talked about how great babies were.

Oh wait, not quite.

Yeah! Meanies.

::Kicks South Dakota in the balls. Hard. Makes them wait 72 hours for medical attention::

message 12: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments This is also meant to cut down on abortions because of the long distances people have to drive. If you have to wait 72 hours and come back again, it causes considerable hardship.

Meanwhile, the Arizona senate this week passed a bill preventing abortions based on the sex or race of the fetus.

This bill is ridiculous... How are they going to police this one? Check out FB updates about the pregnancy that are all happy and bubbly until the mother-to-be finds out she's having a boy?

I love when politicians come up with stupid reasons to "ban" things that aren't happening often enough to worry about anyway. This is just an insane and legally ineffective (though "good" for campaign commercials) way for AZ to slide down the slippery slope of anti-aborition legislation.

PS. I went to college in AZ. During one class, out teacher was discussing abortion and abortion rights and a girl seriously suggested that we all just go to Mexico for our abortions. I mean, it's only an hour away and that way they wouldn't have to be legal here.

Narsku (goodreadscomnarsku) | 2 comments Great. Condescending at best, complete humiliation at worst. As if anybody would make the decision to have an abortion lightly. And if someone really would decide on that without giving it a second thought, I think that probably says something of how great a parent they would be.

The "unless you agree with me you haven't even tried to think about it" mentality is always so charming.

message 17: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments The Iowa legislature is caught up in this same mess. The one doctor in the state of South Dakota who does abortions is considering opening a clinic across the state line in Iowa to serve women from South Dakota and Iowa. So Iowa legislators are freaking out, trying to figure out a way to stop him. Fuckers.

I heard a quote from a Planned Parenthood nurse today that I liked. She said that of all the women who come to Planned Parenthood to terminate a pregnancy, 90% of them considered themselves to be Pro-Life, UNTIL they had an unplanned pregnancy themselves.

message 18: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments It is sad. A lot of people who call themselves pro-life give permission to their daughters or sisters to terminate an unplanned pregnancy because it is somehow an exception to the rule.
