Joss (illumina3) | 33 comments I read this book probably in the early 90s.

As far as I remember, the book starts in Russia in the early 20th century, where 2 sisters from a Jewish family are at the wedding of the elder one. For some reason (a pogrom?) they have to leave, and the older sister ends up in London on her own, while the younger makes it to America with her brother in law. They end up having an affair. The sisters aren't reunited for many years, and when they are there is lots of bad blood.

Joss (illumina3) | 33 comments Anyone have any ideas about this one? I've googled every detail I can think of with no luck, and asked a few other forums as well!

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 1396 comments Joss, It may take some time, but your odds are relatively good here. Keep checking back. If weeks elapse, feel free to bump up the thread as many times as you want.

Joss (illumina3) | 33 comments I'm still looking for help on this one, I've asked in other places but no-one seems to have heard of it.

Joss, Keep bumping this thread every so often. It sometimes takes months, or years. And sometimes the books are never found, but most are.

Joss (illumina3) | 33 comments I think the younger sister ends up working as a seamstress or something like that, possibly in a factory, in New York? It would be in the 1910s or 20s.

Christine Gorton | 111 comments This sounds like a series by Nora Roberts.

Joss (illumina3) | 33 comments As far as I know it was a standalone - everything in the description above was in one book. I've checked Nora Roberts and can't find anything similar... but then she's written a lot, so maybe I missed it.

It would have been published no later than 1992/3. Probably much earlier, since I got it from the library in paperback form.
