Lauren (laurenjberman) Yes, they are being very short sited. Some of the posters in another one of my groups has already said they won't buy any books published by Penguin until they restore Kindle lending. One in particular was very annoyed because she was in the middle of the latest Nora Roberts book on her Kindle and it just disappeared.

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments It disappeared? I wonder if the due date was up? A good reason to leave the ereader 3G/Wifi turned off!

Penguin has long had contracting disputes with Amazon. In the spring of 2010, Amazon stopped selling Penguin's ebooks because of a contract dispute between the two companies. I am guessing the targeting of Kindle customers has a broader origin than just the piracy issue.

Lauren (laurenjberman) I understood from her post that she had only borrowed it a few days before so I don't think the due date was up.

Penguin does seem to be targeting Amazon specifically because their books are still available to other ereaders. One of the disputed issues seems to be Amazon's lending through Amazon Prime.

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments I liked this commentary "Publishers Weigh In On The Future of Ebooks" on the the original article though I'm a bit miffed at this bit even if it's sort of true:
Jed Lyons of Rowman & Littlefield actually compared e-reading devices to the “brown paper bags” that customers used to hide their soft-core porn material in
