SOLVED. Fiction, Inheritance due to a servant [s]

The plot was about a rich family and there was a poor servant girl in the home. She befriended the male head of household and he helped her with her education. He liked her as a daughter because she was kind and sweet. I believe he had 2 sons and they were basically just waiting for their father to pass away so they could get control of his money and assets. Before the father passed away, he told the girl that she would inherit a great deal when he died, but when the will was read, there was nothing for her. She suspected the 2 sons had something to do with that.

I don't want to give away spoilers, so I will stop there and try to give other info that I remember from the book. I believe the rich family's last name was Salinger. I believe the father made his millions in publishing.

I thought the name of the book was called "The Inheritance" but after much research, I couldn't come up with it under that name.

Try "Inheritance" by Judith Michael. The Salingers were hoteliers.

That's the one!! I googled it a number of times and couldn't come up with it (probably because I kept the word "the" in there). Thank you James!

And here's more - when I researched Judith Michael, I found out she wrote "Deceptions" which was another book I absolutely loved.
