K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments The Handmaid's Tale is my favorite reading buddy thread so far. Very detailed and the fact that we were 3 and we all complied with the rules make it a model of this set up. Conceited ha ha.

I hope you don't decide to read another Atwood yet. I'd like to read 1 book of a good author in a year so I can try other authors muna. I'd like to read "Alias Grace" sana next year. Pero if you insist sana mga June or July pa. There are just too many other authors to try.

Try reading "Surfacing" muna. It is also awesome.

message 270: by Regine (new)

Regine | 121 comments I have a copy of Vanity Fair gathering dust. Anyone who'd like to join me for a buddy read, let me know.

I also want to do a children's lit challenge this summer. I'm thinking of focusing on Roald Dahl, but also taking up classics like Kipling and L.M. Montgomery. Any takers?

message 271: by Angus (new)

Angus (angusmiranda) | 4337 comments Hi Monique, I came up with this reading plan for The Grapes of Wrath. I made sure each day wouldn't exceed 40 pages so that you wouldn't be pressed for too much time. Tell me if this would suit you. Aldrin, are you still up for this? :)

01: Chapters 1-4 (33 pages)
02: Chapters 5-6 (35 pages)
03: Chapters 7-9 (33 pages)
04: Chapters 10-12 (39 pages)
05: Chapters 13-14 (35 pages)
06: Chapter 15 (13 pages)
07: Chapter 16 (36 pages)
08: Chapter 17 (9 pages)
09: Chapter 18 (36 pages)
10: Chapter 19-1st half of Chapter 20 (11+25=36 pages)
11: 2nd half of Chapter 20-Chapter 21 (25+3=28 pages)
12: 1st half of Chapter 22 (26 pages)
13: 2nd half of Chapter 22 (26 pages)
14: Chapters 23-25 (30 pages)
15: 1st half of Chapter 26 (33 pages)
16: 2nd half of Chapter 26 (33 pages)
17: Chapters 27-28 (31 pages)
18: Chapters 29-30 (27 pages)

message 272: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments REGINE: I am cool with Vanity Fair. Let me know when.

I'll pass for Roald Dahl but interested on Kipling if you are thinking of reading "Kim", "Not Just So Stories" and "The Jungle Book".

ANGUS: For Grapes, I suggest 2 chapters a day. The alternating chapters are nice to be read by pair. Then you get to reflect on them before you read the next pair. Midway, if I remember it right, you don't have the alternating chapters and the reading will be a breeze.

message 273: by Regine (new)

Regine | 121 comments Kay I'll let you know K.D.

Can we do it this way, Angus? I appreciate your effort in trying to divide the chapters by page, but I'm really apprehensive about not keeping up. I think 2 chapters will do it. it will probably make the reading slightly longer but at least, I can comply faithfully. :D

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments I am in the mood to read McCuller's THE HEART IS A LONELY HUNTER . Any takers? Preferably female and single. I want to know her perspectives while reading the book.

Ha ha. May qualifications pa ako sa reading buddy ko! Ako na!

message 276: by Angus (new)

Angus (angusmiranda) | 4337 comments Atty. Monique: Sure! Just give me a heads up when to create the thread. I think we need a three-day notice?

KD: Bakit kailangan ng female at single with The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter? I think you should ask an alcoholic to read the book, haha.

@KD: I've been planning to read this one, but I keep putting it off. I meet your qualifications, hahaha. I'm not sure if I can keep up though, medyo mabagal ako magbasa. I'm also not sure if I can contribute much on insights pero I'll try. :) When's the start? Sana may kasabay pa tayong iba. :D

message 278: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments SHERYL: Wow! I never knew that you would respond to my invite. You are now hired! Ha ha

I don't mind about your speed. You tell me and I will abide. I don't have my copy right now but we can have 1 chapter/2 days.

I saw the movie. I liked it. I liked the sweet soundtrack. It's a coming of age and written by McCullers when she was still very young. So, your perspectives might be helpful for me to understand.

Let's start on Saturday, May 7, 2011?

ANGUS: Is that man who rented their room upstairs an alcoholic in the book? Not in the movie, if memory serves me right.

Apokripos (apokalypse) | 3321 comments Can I interest anyone of you for a book buddy read of Watership Down by Richard Adams for the sole reason that I just want to read this because it's his birthday in May 9, which, coincidentally is also the day we will start reading the book. I hope, too, that this book will be a fine summer read though may kakapalan nga lang siya.

Thanks! ^_^

I'll be counting the number of chapters once I get home later so we can determine our reading pace.

It will depend on whether I can finish Graham Greene's The Power and the Glory by the 9th but sign me up as a tentative co-buddy for Watership Down. :)

message 287: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments That should be the same with Grapes of Wrath, Kristel. Parang iinit lalo ang panahon kasi Dust Bowl yon eh.

Saturday it is. :) I enjoyed her collection of short stories that's why I'm interested to read her other works.

There are 3 Parts in the book.

Part 1: 6 Chapters (Short Ones)
Part 2: 15 Chapters (Long Ones)
Part 3: 4 Chapters (Short Ones)

So, how do we go about this?

I'm thinking around 3 or 5 chapters a day so that we can finish more or less in a week? :D Just post the final details, I'll try my best to stick to our final sched. :)
