I would like to, but I can't promise to be a good buddy because I'm also taking MA classes on top of work. :(

I might join, depends upon the pace. How many chapters a day? :)

Mm, the book's pretty long, over 1400+pages. A chapter in this book is about 15-20 pages long. What would be a good and steady pace for this? Three chapters a day perhaps? Or is that weak?

I am willing to pay for a sumptuous meal to discuss the book face to face on the first week of January. My New Year's Treat for whoever will read and finish the book with me. I have been dreaming of reading this book but I just haven't gotten the right push.
Deal? No requirements even newbies are welcome.

Why do I want to read this? This is a classic American book. It is a 501, 1001, Modern Library, etc etc. It is in the Top 10 in a poll conducted by living writers. I would like to read and digest it thoroughly. I have several copies but when I saw an annotated illustrated and unabridged Huck Finn (P1000) yesterday, I thought I would like to try reading this very slowly (kasi nga annotated yong akin) with somebody whose into American classics.
Two weeks' daily reading. This book is also memorable for me. I was in 2nd year high school when, on that summer's break, I saw my second brother (3rd year high) reading this aloud to my eldest brother (1st year college). Apparently, my already-in-college brother is training my still-in-high school brother to read aloud properly. We were all promdis and we were conscious of our pronounciation. Matigas ang dila doon sa amin eh. So, this book became like a symbol of my brothers for me. First and last ko silang nakitang ganoon. Siguro, yon din ang dahilan why I am postponing this. I have great respect for my brothers.
So, I will treat my reading buddy (ies) at EDSA Shangrila Mall for New Year's dinner or lunch. The sumptuous meal will be on me. The online discussion does not need to be comprehensive. Only to track our individual progress. I'd rather discuss in person the merits and demerits (if any) of the book.
Deal?

Name my resto? That's easy. Let's have some classic Italian at Trattoria while we ponder on Mark Twain's opus: )

I will go and buy that annotated illustrated Huck Finn today. I will read Tom Sawyer alongside this one.
Others who'd like to join us: you still have up to Thursday midnight to decide. I have no preferences - friends or foes alike hahaha - as long as you will read Huck Finn with us and on the 12th, you will be fully prepared to discuss. No faking, no Sparknotes, no movie-in-lieu of reading. Of course, you will also have to endure me while chewing your food at The Trattoria's.
Let me know please. Those who miss me, this is your chance hahahaha.

"All modern American literature comes from one book called Huckleberry Finn," declated Ernest Hemingway. "There was nothing before. There has been nothing good since." Yet even from the time of tis first publication in 1885, Mark Twain's masterpiece has been one of the most celebrated and controversial books ever published in America. No other story so central to our American identity has been so loved and so reviled as Huck Finn's autobiography.
Take it from Ernest Hemingway.

Hi back!!!
Well, it starts with any book you choose to read -maybe something difficult to finish on your own, or simply want to share the experience/thoughts on reading it. Post it here, and wait if someone will agree to read it with you. You create a buddy thread (you can see samples, just browse); agree on the reading phase/schedule; then, share your thoughts and encourage each other until you both finish the book. The thing is, you have to agree to disagree too. Accept each other's opinion even if it opposes yours.
If I missed something, maybe the moderators can add to this; but this is pretty much how it goes. :)
Now, give it a try!

I'll join you! Create a thread :D

Dapat may schedule tayo like for example from Feb 1 - Feb 10 Chapter 1-5 ganun. Then afterwards, we'll throw away our thoughts and opinion about sa book. :) Nagbuddy read ako once pero, di ako nakasabay hehehe... from what I'm seeing from previous buddy reads, ganun ang ginagawa nila. They set schedules then update lang ng progress. :)
