Wanted: Reading Buddies

I think this is true. A local writer blogged about hunting for Hollinghurst's latest book. And I have a feeling that Hollinghurst is not for the general reading public.

I was upset because I like Cloud Atlas. I hope The Line of Beauty can come close to the enjoyment I had with Mitchell's monumental work.

I sometimes see it on the shelves of Book Sale outlets. Margaret Thatcher is mentioned in the blurb of my edition, and there's going to be a biopic regarding her maybe next year. Wala lang, may masabi lang, haha.

Wanted Reading Buddies:
1) Patrick Suskind's PERFUME
2) Ken Kesey's ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST
3) John Updike's RABBIT, RUN
4) Charlotte B..."
of the 4 One Flee Over the Cuckoo's Nest lang ang di ko pa nabasa, ive been meaning to read it, KD, pero di ko makita ang copy ko..ugggh! Good luck sa readings mo!

ikaw bahala Ian, ako kahit kelan, isisingit ko na lang sa sked ko. Gusto atang sumali ni KD at ni Kwesi

Dra. Ranee, when are we going to start with A Game of Thrones? I'd like to start on Monday, Aug 8 or Aug 15.

Wala lang, gusto ko lang may makasama pag sumakit na ulo ko sa mga weird stories ni Lovecraft. :)

Maarte ako. I'll try to read McCarthy from his recent to his oldest.
Ito na lang! Since madaling hanapin at meron na ko. O di ba, ang self-serving ko. :D

Very easy read kasi yong 2 kong on-going ngayon. "Up in the Air" at "Perfume" tapos slow lang ang pace namin kaya pede pa akong sumingit ng "Freedom".

Really, it's may fault. And recall kung gaano ako katamad nung When The Elephants Dance.
I think, the trouble with me is mas gusto ko yung mga face-to-face book discussion.

Aw, I'm currently having it on audio na. Pero chapter 6 pa lang naman ako. Makikisingit-singit na lang ako sa discussion n'yo. Hopefully that's ok.

Ian:: I'd like to read it with you but we are not yet done with "Game of Thrones." Can we do it after?

I might also read Middlesex in September, if anyone's interested. :)

When We Were Orphans by Kazuo Ishiguro
or
A Widow for One Year/Last Night in Twisted River by John Irving (My sister is a big fan but I haven't read anything of him.)
Sabriel by Garth Nix
or
Pale Fire by Vladimir Nabokov
Before I Go to Sleep by S.J. Watson
or
Brideshead Revisited by Evely Waugh
Amrita by Banana Yoshimoto
or
The Great Philippine Jungle Energy Cafe by Alfred Yuzon (Though I'd prefer not to read this next week, since August was Buwan ng Wika for me.)

But I cannot start next week, I still have Eugenides (Middlesex) and I am still finishing Franzen (Freedom) this week.
So, I think I will just catch on or something.

Should anyone here read (see below), I'd love to join din...
1984- George Orwell
The Perks of Being a Wallflower- Stephen Chbosky
Lord of the Flies- William Golding
Midwives- Chris Bohjalian
A Thousand Splendid Suns- Khaled Hosseini
Atonement- Ian McEwan

I'd like to read "Wallflower" with you. Are you okay reading it simultaneously with "Middlesex"?
I have not read "Midwives" also but I think that book can wait.

"
That's fine with me. Let me know our pacing for The Perks...

Po! we'll start reading on sept 5, 2 chapters/day..

Kuya Doni: This is actually the first Irving I'm gonna read ahaha. I've watched parts of the movie version of Garp on HBO though. Would you like to read Amrita the week after next? (September 11-17)?

Hmm, I'll research on the book first because it's the first time I've heard of it, haha.
Kuya, I'm also due to read The Mermaid Chair but if it's as simple as The Secret Life of Bees, pass muna ako sa buddy reads. Tsaka kayang-kaya na yan ng powers mo. ;)
