Hmm, I'll research on the book first because it's the first time I've heard of it, haha.

Kuya, I'm also due to read The Mermaid Chair but if it's as simple as The Secret Life of Bees, pass muna ako sa buddy reads. Tsaka kayang-kaya na yan ng powers mo. ;)

Angus (angusmiranda) | 4337 comments Louize wrote: "They say that Alan Hollinghurst is very good with his prose."

I think this is true. A local writer blogged about hunting for Hollinghurst's latest book. And I have a feeling that Hollinghurst is not for the general reading public.

K.D. wrote: "Tinalo ang "Cloud Atlas"? What an upset! ha ha"

I was upset because I like Cloud Atlas. I hope The Line of Beauty can come close to the enjoyment I had with Mitchell's monumental work.

Monique wrote: "Hmm, I'll research on the book first because it's the first time I've heard of it, haha."

I sometimes see it on the shelves of Book Sale outlets. Margaret Thatcher is mentioned in the blurb of my edition, and there's going to be a biopic regarding her maybe next year. Wala lang, may masabi lang, haha.

Dra. Ranee, when are we going to start with A Game of Thrones? I'd like to start on Monday, Aug 8 or Aug 15.

message 508: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (archiveangel) | 107 comments K.D., let's start reading Freedom on Monday, August 8. I'm excited. Franzen is a living and breathing classic author or so they say.

message 509: by Angus (new)

Angus (angusmiranda) | 4337 comments Ang daming commitments ni KD! :D

message 510: by Apokripos (new)

Apokripos (apokalypse) | 3321 comments Any takers for a reading of Tales of H.P. Lovecraft.

message 511: by Angus (new)

message 512: by Apokripos (new)

Maarte ako. I'll try to read McCarthy from his recent to his oldest.

Ito na lang! Since madaling hanapin at meron na ko. O di ba, ang self-serving ko. :D

No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy

message 513: by Angus (new)

message 514: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Angus, ako! I want to read "Blood Meridian" with you. Marami yan sa NBS Bestsellers at FB North EDSA.

message 515: by Angus (new)

message 516: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments "I'm a lousy book buddy" - yan ang huling drama nya kapag niyayaya kong mag-buddy read.

Very easy read kasi yong 2 kong on-going ngayon. "Up in the Air" at "Perfume" tapos slow lang ang pace namin kaya pede pa akong sumingit ng "Freedom".

Really, it's may fault. And recall kung gaano ako katamad nung When The Elephants Dance.

I think, the trouble with me is mas gusto ko yung mga face-to-face book discussion.

Aw, I'm currently having it on audio na. Pero chapter 6 pa lang naman ako. Makikisingit-singit na lang ako sa discussion n'yo. Hopefully that's ok.

Jewel | 3 comments Hi guys, let me know if anyone's ready to read A Storm of Swords and buddy-read with me. I'm still only halfway through book 2 though, but we can schedule it na.

I might also read Middlesex in September, if anyone's interested. :)

message 529: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Oh Reinaj, I'd love to read Middlesex with you in September. Can we start on Monday, September 5?

message 534: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Ed, sorry. I don't have a copy of that book.

message 535: by Tintin (new)

Tintin (marimorimo) | 111 comments ED, I have that book! Unfortunately, I also have half a dozen books on my 'immediately-to-read pile' so I can't read it with you anytime soon. Sorry :(

message 536: by Kristel (new)

Kristel (fanarchist) | 489 comments I'm doing the A to Z Reading Challenge this year and I still need to read books by authors with surnames that begin with I, N, W and Y. Hopefully I can start next week, since I still need to finish a couple more titles. Any takers?

When We Were Orphans by Kazuo Ishiguro
or
A Widow for One Year/Last Night in Twisted River by John Irving (My sister is a big fan but I haven't read anything of him.)

Sabriel by Garth Nix
or
Pale Fire by Vladimir Nabokov

Before I Go to Sleep by S.J. Watson
or
Brideshead Revisited by Evely Waugh

Amrita by Banana Yoshimoto
or
The Great Philippine Jungle Energy Cafe by Alfred Yuzon (Though I'd prefer not to read this next week, since August was Buwan ng Wika for me.)

Tuklas Pahina (TP) | 1191 comments hi kristel i think i'll go for "A widow for one year" yan lang kc my copy ako hehee tell me when to start ha pr mkpg preper ako..tnx

message 538: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Kristel: I am up for Ishiguro, Nabokov or Banana. For Irving, I want to read "Garp" or "Meany" first but I think you've read them already.

But I cannot start next week, I still have Eugenides (Middlesex) and I am still finishing Franzen (Freedom) this week.

So, I think I will just catch on or something.
