I accidentally read these out of order. Oops. I would have enjoyed book 2 more if it hadn't been for the romanticizing of rape in one of the scenes.
It was my first pirate romance so that was interesting.
I'm enjoying book 1 since it seems that the male is currently in more control of his urges and more respectful of her.

The only other pirates I've read about were in a Wilbur Smith historical fiction. I'm not sure why there aren't more. Maybe the series just didn't take off enough for another book. It seems like all the brothers could have been more books, but they end up with people between book 1 and book 2. I'm not there yet in book 1, but they've all found families by book 2. Book 2 resolves the issues between the two older male boys so she didn't really leave herself anywhere to go.
Ya, she re-released these. She states that the genre has evolved since this came out. If what you said about bodice rippers is true ("no please don't" "trust me you'll enjoy it") then, ya.

You have to remember, snarky, strong females are in. Before it's all about being powerless. Although, I still don't think powerless means okay to be raped. I want to strangle whoever romanticized rape for entertainment purposes.
Gah! How did women put up with this. You can't be seen in public for 5 weeks after you've been married? Staying under an unmarried mans roof for 2-3 weeks because you're sick makes you a ruined woman? Even if you were so sick you were unconscious the whole time? I think I would have been one of the women that would rather have been an old maid, but then you were dependent on family members to take care of you. We've come a long way in 100-150 years. Who would have thought that WWI and WWII were some of the greatest events to encourage woman's rights.
