Mk323 | 27 comments Hello,
I was so excited to discover this group. I'm 36, a mom of two and a teacher, but I love YA! My fave is historical fiction but I also like contemporary and the occasional paranormal or dystopian. I put off reading The Hunger Games but will totally admit I was wrong--I loved the whole series! I'm planning to get The Vespertine on my Kindle tonight. :)

Jenny (narcisse) Welcome to the group, Mk.

J.A. Beard (jabeard) Welcome.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 270 comments Welcome to the group Mk and CV. :)

Cindy, we love our authors and absolutely want to hear about what you're writing, but prefer that author self promotions go in the appropriate folders, so these topics are kept clear for new members looking to actively post and participate with the group dynamic.

I went ahead and deleted the second post from the links topic, but will leave this intro up as long as future promotions are put in the appropriate folders.

message 109: by CV (new)

CV Smith | 3 comments Sorry, Stacia. What are the appropriate folders for author self promos? Where are they are under what title are they?
Cindy

message 113: by Vered (new)

Vered (vered_ehsani) I love the humour I see popping up in your intros - looks like a fun group (I'm avoiding the exclamation mark but I am really just DYING to hit that button... I'll restrain myself). I'm a South African / Canadian and have lived in Kenya the past 11 years. My kids (8 and 10) are really getting into reading now, and that's part of my interest in YA lit and I just love historical fiction, so nice to see where the two join up.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 270 comments !!!

Exclamation marks are welcome as long as the comments are easy to read, haha. :) As are smilies because I overdo it with those.

Welcome to the group Vered.

Vered (vered_ehsani) Don't tempt me...

message 116: by Christie (new)

Christie (cereale) Hi everyone. My name is Christie and I work at a library. I enjoy reading all kinds of books but my favorite genre is historical fiction. Most of the time the young adult books that I read fall into the paranormal romance variety, but I am looking forward to discovering the historical fiction that falls in this category. This seems like a very fun group and I look forward to discussing books with all of you.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 270 comments Glad to have you Christie. Jump in anywhere!

message 121: by Meghan (new)

Meghan Hello all, I'm Meghan. I've always loved historical fiction and my favorite topics would have to be Tudor England, the French Revolution, World War II and the Holocaust, and recently I have been getting into the Borgias. I also love when a little romance is thrown into it. I can't wait to read with all of you!

message 124: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (auntieloe) Hi I'm Chloe
I'm a stay at home disabled 20 year old so consequently I have lots of time to read. Mostly YA and Middle Grade. Historical fiction is my favorite genre though I mostly read books about the 2nd world war I'll try almost anything at least once.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 270 comments Glad to have you Chloe. I'd love to see what you'd recommend for us to read. Most of us are still new to YAHF.

Hi, everyone! I'm Charmaine. :-) I'm happy that I found this group! What a cool name for this group and it just so happens that this month's book (Luxe) and next month's book (Vixen) are ones that I've been wanting to read recently! So it's perfect! :-) Let's see... I love to read YA historical fiction, classics, YA, some middle school fiction, and Christian historical fiction. I read some fantasy/sci fi that sounds interesting. :-)

message 127: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Hi all! My name's Kelly, and I'm really glad to have stumbled upon this group. :) I love historical fiction, and some of my favorite authors in the genre are Jennifer Donnelly, Markus Zusak, and Eva Ibbotsen. I also love fantasy, dystopians, and romances (both YA and regular fiction). Can't wait to chat with you guys!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 270 comments Welcome Charmaine and Kelly! Most of us in the group read a variety of genres, so you're in good company. Glad to have you two aboard. :)

Timothy Davis | 4 comments Hi Everybody. It's great to find this group. I've published some YA historical adventure novels, but I don't think the history is as strong as it should be. I look forward to interacting with this group! Thanks.

message 134: by Mina (new)

Mina (schildmaid) Hi everyone *waves*
I stumbled upon this group while looking for more YAHF recommendations. I love books but recently I don't find enough time to read as much as I'd like to ><

I'm completely into YA and have started to feel attracted to YAHF after the Gemma Dolye Trilogy. Especially the Victorian Era is always fun so I read Clockwork Angel, The Prophecy of The Sisters and The Luxe. Now I want more... ^^

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 270 comments Welcome Mina. :) I like your book picks.

Mina (schildmaid) Thank you ^^
It's too bad I missed the Vespertine Group Read. That's on my TBR, too.

message 138: by Emily (new)

Emily (librarylil) Hi everyone! My name is Emily and I'm a reference/teen services librarian. I read almost exclusively YA books. My favorite genres are contemporary realistic fiction, the lighter side of fantasy, and historical fiction, but I read pretty widely across genres.

I work with Christie who has been a member here for a few months. I joined because she always has such good things to say about this group and because I've either read or wanted to read most of the books she's mentioned you are reading. And I love that you wait for several months after the book has been published to choose it--that's one of my issues with my current GR group.

I look forward to reading with you!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 270 comments Welcome Emily, glad to have you. :)

message 140: by Jojobean (new)

Jojobean Hi. I'm Joanne. I am an avid reader. I have loved reading since I've been able to hold a book. The books I like varies from paranormal to vampire to real life issues to historical fiction. I really love the books written by the author Carolyn Meyer. I don't hate any book genres but I have to say that I'm not really interested in fantasy or scientific fiction.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 270 comments Hi there Joanne! Welcome.

message 143: by Johan (new)

Johan | 2 comments Hello. My name is Johan. Ive been reading books for ages now (as long as I can read :P) I used to just read the dutch translations of thrillers (mainly Andy McNab and Lee Child). But recently Im really into historical fiction. I started with Pillars of the Earth (what a start!) and I just completed the quartet about Napoleon and the duke of Wellington by Simon Scarrow. Atm Im reading the Fort by Bernard Cromwell.

Any suggestions about historical war stories are more then welcome!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 270 comments Welcome Johan. :)

Historical war stories in YA...can't say that I've read any, but I'd love to see if someone else in the group has.

The Book Thief might be one of my all-time favorite books. It's the kind where I stayed up late to finish, sobbing the whole way.

Does anyone remember a book called Stolen Years? I read and reread that book as a girl.

There is another book, set during WWII, and it may or may not have been written by moi. Cough.

Veronica (complicatedreamer) Hi my name is Veronica, I am 26 (I think, I'm always forgetting, but its around there somewhere). I LOVE books. I have boxes and boxes of books, and bookcases full as well. I read mostly romance, but also enjoy fantasy and YA (I went through the entire Nancy Drew series when I was pregnant). And I love to read.
