Welcome to The Young Adult Historical Fiction Society!

You're probably wondering if we are as formal and stuffy as our name suggests. The answer is no, we are not. We just have a flair for the dramatic and a great love of history! In actuality, we're very casual. At the end of the day we just want to read and discuss great books with great people. Whether you've read a lot of young adult historical fiction or you have a blossoming interest, we're glad to have you and we hope you'll enjoy it here.

Laid back as we are, even we have rules. We ask that all members follow them to keep things fair and enjoyable for everyone here.

THE RULES or HOW TO GET ALONG IN SOCIETY

Be respectful. If we had a golden rule, this would be it. We appreciate differences in opinion and spirited debates, but please treat each other with respect and tolerance. Anyone caught instigating arguments, bashing other members, or mistreating moderators will be warned once and subsequently removed from the group if the behavior continues.

Maturity is a must. There is no age restriction to join this group. We know you're here to read and discuss young adult fiction and we don't really care how old you are. All we ask is that you represent yourself with maturity and intelligence no matter what your age is.

Keep things neat. Please post topics and discussions in the appropriate folders and threads. When referring to a specific book or author it is always preferred that you use the add book/author link above the comment text box. These links make it so much easier for other members to find exactly which books or authors you're indicating.

NOTE: In the vein of both maturity and keeping things neat, do try to adhere to basic rules of grammar. Refrain from using an abundance of chat/text shorthand, please, and stay away from StIcKy CaPs, CAPS LOCK, or a grotesque misuse of the !!!! key). We're not tyrants or anything - no one is going to go ballistic on you for misspelling a word or dropping an LOL in, but if your posts look like an IM mated with a MySpace page, it is both distracting and difficult to take you seriously. Plus Elle will probably have a brain aneurysm.

Don't ruin it for everyone. There are some people who do not mind spoilers. There are even some who prefer them. For those who do not, please clearly mark all spoilers by use of the spoiler tags or with some other noticeable indicator (this would be an appropriate place to abuse the !!!! or CAPS LOCK key).

The only time you are not required to mark your spoilers is when discussing books in either the Group Read Discussions folder or the Other Book Discussions folder. You should expect to find spoilers in these threads - enter at your own risk.

To use spoiler tags like those shown below, remove the !!! from the following HTML tags: INSERT YOUR SPOILER HERE.

Spamming will get you nowhere. Do you want people to read your book? Visit your blog? Buy your night vision goggles and portable reading lamp combo? Great! We'll happily accept all self-promotions so long as they are posted in the appropriate folder. And just to make it really easy, we've gone ahead and posted all those links below for you.

Unless otherwise noted below, please post your advertisements and promotions in the Your Ad Here! folder.

Websites, Blogs, and Other Links

We are constantly updating our Links & Resources with information relating to history and young adult fiction. If you have a link you think belongs there, please post it in the Link Suggestions thread.

We also maintain a Member Directory in the Links & Resources folder. If you are an actively participating member of the group and you would like to include your blog, site, or social networking information there, please do.

If you want to share a related (young adult and/or historical fiction) contest or giveaway with the group, you can do that in the Contests and Giveaways thread.

If you want to tell the group about a great book at a great price, post it in the Good Deal! thread.

GoodReads Authors
GoodReads is a great place to promote your book, we know that. But we are much more likely to give it a shot if you don't try and shove it down our throats. If you would like to promote your book or books here, please follow these guidelines.

1. Make sure any book you promote is young adult historical fiction. That is what our members are here for.
2. Please promote books in the GoodReads Authors - Promote Your Books! thread. If you are caught promoting a book in any other thread, your post will be deleted promptly and you will receive your one and only warning. If you continue to promote books incorrectly you will be removed from the group.
3. Participation in the group is always appreciated. We are far more likely to give your book a shot if you're one of the gang and not just here for self-promotion. You do not have to participate to promote your book, but it will definitely help win our favor.
4. Don't nominate your own book for a group read. Come on now, that is just tacky. If you are a participating member of this group then we don't think you'll have any trouble getting someone to nominate it for you.

Moderators! Help!
If you would like to report anything (i.e. broken links, spammers, remove/move a post, etc.) to a moderator, please post it in the Moderator Alert thread.

If you have suggestions for how we can improve the group, please post those in the Suggestion Box.

You are welcome to message us individually if you have a more personal concern, but the moderator threads are the fastest way to reach all of us.
