My first record was "My Pony, Macaroni." It was about Miss Caroline Kennedy's pony who lived at the White House. It rocked my world.
Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse of the heart...not the actual song though. My mom would sing the "turn around bright eyes" part to me when she was trying to get my attention or putting my hair up and I was squirming around. The first actual song I remember hearing was "Sylvia's Mother" by Dr. Hook, courtesy of my dad.
Thanks for making me feel old, everyone. May the fleas of a thousand camels infest your armpits.
The first one for me was "Wipeout" by the Surfaris.

"Brother Louie" by The Stories. Which I mixed up in my mind with "Louie, Louie" for years, but is COMPLETELY different. I've got it straight now, don't worry. :)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exl0oS...

My Pony Macaroni is circa 1963, I think.
Why did Yankee Doodle stick a feather in his cap and call it "macaroni," speaking of things that are not pasta?
I remember watching the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show (1965?). They sang "I want to Hold Your Hand." You couldn't hear the song all that wall because of all the crazy girls screaming and crying and tearing at their hair. I did not understand what all the fuss was about and worried that as I aged I might morph into one of those crazy, boy-addled idiots. I never did end up going Beatle-crazy.

I'm nearly weeping, Cynthia. Hey RA, you reading this? She's one of us.

I did say what's the first song you remember hearing. If it was only last week we won't judge you, Barb. OK, maybe a little.

The first music I remember hearing was the soundtrack to The Sting. I don't think that counts as pop music, though. I also remember Bad Company's "Rock and Roll Fantasy".
something by madonna i think...

Haven't heard that one in a long time. It makes me think of Mike Myers on SNL. Welcome to Sprokets. Now we dance.

I honestly have no idea. I want to say backstreet boys, but I know I heard music before that. I remember watching Fiona Apple's "Criminal" video.
Um, probably something by Peggy Lee. Is that all there is? My parents listened to the usual 50s soft jazz - Sinatra, Peggy Lee. Lots of theater music. Oooooooklahoma! Followed by From Russia With Love, which spun off all my spy fantasies of what I was gonna be when I grew up.
S A T U R D A Y by Bay City Rollers is the first pop song I can remember, independent of what my parents listened to. There were two rival mobs in my primary school. Bay City Rollers Fans V's AC/DC fans. Unfortunately I have to confess that my friends were BCR fans. It was my first introduction to pop music. My friends had all the BCR gear including tartan trimmed pants etc.
I remember loving Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline" when I was in elementary school. We used to always turn it up and sing along at my friend Anne's house.

The first songs I remember were the ones that played in my kindergarten carpools. My mother wore out/melted three tape copies of the Kinks' State of Confusion while we lived in San Antonio, so those are the first songs I remember. The other moms played "Karma Chameleon" and "I Left My Heart in San Francisco."
