Mandapanda Calling all Aussie High School students! Are you having trouble with the books you have to read in school? Sometimes study can take the joy out of reading. The Wheeler Centre is running “Texts In The City“, a series of weekly (in school terms) afternoon chats to help you rediscover a sense of love and wonder about the texts in the High School English list.

For those who can’t get to the talks, videos of each event will be uploaded to the Wheeler Centre website (and I’ll post links here in this thread). The events are presented by Tony Wilson and Jenny Niven.

Remember if you’re studying a book at school you can start a discussion on it in our “Individual Book Discussions" thread and members of the group will come and give you their opinions. It’s a great way to get ideas for your reviews.

They've taken a selection from the Victorian high school list: http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/correspond...

I can find out what the edu. boards in other states have chosen for their 2011 reading lists if people are interested.

Jacinta Hoare | 62 comments I wish this was available waaaayyyy back when I was at school. So many novels were destroyed for me through the agony of high school analysis.

I got all excited when I saw this, but none of them are on my reading list for this year. (Year 10)
We have it easy in terms of class novels this year:
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time (already read)
To Kill a Mockingbird (on my to-read list anyway)
Animal Farm (on my to-read list anyway)
Of Mice and Men

There might also be a few scripts for drama, but im not sure yet.
