message 1: by K.D. (last edited Mar 11, 2011 03:52PM) (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Thank you, Regine for this great idea.

Mechanics:
1) Anybody can initiate this.
2) Two or more members to read a book at the same time. They set the rules (how many pages per day, etc)
3) One of them to open a thread at least 3 days prior to the start of reading. This is for others who might be interested can join.
4) They use their thread to discuss the book.
5) The reading should not take more than a month unless it is a very long book.

Let me know if there are questions.

Mostly on Storygraph | 14 comments Great idea, Regine & Kuya. Count me in after this crazy semester is over.

Tuklas Pahina (TP) | 1191 comments hmm. wat do u think is d best book to start?

message 8: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments The first book is in the other thread. It is "Hardboiled" by Murakami and the original reading buddies will be Tintin and I. You can join us. Or you can form your own reading buddies tandem and select your own book(s).

I have another book in mind that will be a great for this: "Book Thief" by Zusak. I can have 2 books simultaneously read with a buddy. Anybody interested, just tell me.

kwesi 章英狮 (kwesifriends) | 2752 comments Nice one, me and Rollie are trying to start a new reading buddy session tomorrow. Everyone can join us, we planned to read Speaker for the Dead by Orson Scott Card - again. I'll try to create a new thread tomorrow afternoon or later.

Oh yes. Another reading buddy session, dude!

kwesi 章英狮 (kwesifriends) | 2752 comments Wait, I'm trying to create a new thread for our reading buddy session.
You can visit the thread, here.

message 12: by Regine (new)

Regine | 121 comments aww nice to see this up. I'll see if I can nab a copy of "Hardboiled" as I have yet to read a book by Murakami.

message 13: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Rollie and Kwesi: Thanks for joining us on this. However, next time, please give at least 3 days for others to get a copy or look for their copy of the book.

Regine: Can we plan for "Dangerous Liaisons" sometime after this? I just can not read 3 reading-buddies books simultaneously!

message 14: by Apokripos (new)

Apokripos (apokalypse) | 3321 comments K.D., Regine, this is such a nifty idea! ^^,

message 15: by K.D. (last edited Mar 13, 2011 05:48PM) (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments So that there is something new, ergo, exciting in our group, Jzhun ha ha.
This group gets boring if we don't bring in something new. All we do is open a poll and then they vote. Then don't read and discuss. Just vote.
However, after a meet up? Messages just flood on ha ha. So, its okay. I just don't want our group to be just another "Facebook". We need to read and share our thoughts and not just say "Hi" every now and then.

message 17: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Hindi kaya nabenta na yan, Po? "Count me in" ka dyan. Remember mo yong promise mo sa amin ni Emir? Na ila-like namin ang review mo kahit ano pang ilagay mo ron.

message 18: by Regine (new)

Regine | 121 comments Yes, please. Just let me know when! I have to get that book back from my sister!

message 19: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Regine: Will April 4th work for you?

message 21: by kwesi 章英狮 (last edited Mar 13, 2011 09:28PM) (new)

kwesi 章英狮 (kwesifriends) | 2752 comments Sorry KD, we planned it last Friday and I just saw your thread last night. I think I missed a lot of discussions lately, wish I can read most of them.

message 22: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments It's okay Kwesi. Just making sure that the mechanics are observed. Also, 1 month is the max. I will close the thread automatically. This is to make sure that the folder is not cluttered.

message 23: by kwesi 章英狮 (new)

kwesi 章英狮 (kwesifriends) | 2752 comments Wow, too strict!

message 24: by RE (new)

RE de Leon (isangboses) | 41 comments Hm...interesting.

message 25: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Yes, we have to put some discipline in the process. We are all spending time on this so people should give us some respect in return.

RE: This is for people who have somewhat different taste than those books selected as Books of the Month. At least, there is still somebody (the buddy) with whom he/she can discuss the book. Thanks again to Regine for this wonderful idea.

message 26: by Angus (new)

Angus (angusmiranda) | 4337 comments Wait, where can we post an "announcement"? I don't think it's a good idea to open a new thread if you haven't found yourself a reading buddy yet.

message 27: by Regine (new)

Regine | 121 comments Yes, I definitely think that there should be new threads opened if you want a buddy.

K.D. April 4th would be perfect!

message 28: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments ANGUS: I agree with Regine. You can post a message: "WANTED: READING BUDDY. BOOK(S): xxx"
Who knows, I might respond to your ad! :)

REGINE: Thanks! I browsed the book this morning and I think it will be a tough read (especially having a smart lady like you as my buddy).

message 29: by Angus (new)

That's a good idea, but we might end up flooding the main board with ads? I suggest we open a reading buddy ads thread (parang yung Currently Reading). What do you think? BTW, I plan to read Independent People by Halldór Laxness , hehe.

message 30: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments That's a good idea, Angus. I will do it later.

Tuklas Pahina (TP) | 1191 comments Kuya Doni hello...finish ko na ang Lost SYmbol ni Dan brown sobrang na Lost talaga ako...lost in reading! lost in interest! hahaha joke!...ewan ko lng if tama un review ko cge kuya doni sa meet-up ko bibigay un review ko surprise iyan!...tsaka un mga books na binili natin kuya doni almost finish ko na lahat mga ilang pages na lang cguro mga 500 pages pa hehehe joke1...sana sa meet up may reporting type or summary tayo tapos give ng mga reactions ryt?..wat do u think?

message 32: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments I don't want to think anymore, Po. Drawing na naman yan. :)

message 33: by Regine (new)

Regine | 121 comments Yep, I think that the ads should be posted on a "reading buddy ad" thread, but each book being read definitely deserves its own thread. Otherwise, it might get too confusing to follow the conversation.

And K.D... .you flatter me!

message 34: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Yes, that's a good idea Regine.

Once we are about to start with DANGEROUS LIAISONS we will have our own thread.

message 35: by Ben (new)

Ben (bentraje) | 57 comments Room by Emma Donoghue. Anyone care to join me?

message 36: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Butterbescoth, try Tintin. She got my copy last week during the meet up.

BTW, your message should be in Wanted Reading Buddies thread.

message 37: by Ben (new)

Ben (bentraje) | 57 comments Thanks K.D. for the info. Sorry for the mispost.

message 38: by K.D. (last edited Apr 22, 2011 04:31PM) (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments I just closed the following threads today:

1) Hardboiled Wonderland and the End of the World by Haruki Murakami (Tintin and K.D)

2) Speaker for the Dead by Orson Scott Card(Kwesi and Rollie)

message 39: by Dante (new)

Dante (danteocualesjr) | 294 comments What does an official eavesdropper do?

message 40: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Kibitz

Actually, an O.E. is somebody who supposed to have read the book already and he liked it. Meaning, when the interest of the buddies is waning down (dahil they probably found the book boring), the kibitzer's job err the O.E.'s job is to encourage the buddies to continue reading by giving them teasers and prodding them to go, go, you're getting to the best part! So, in the end all the buddies finish the reading and everybody's happy.

message 41: by Angus (new)

Angus (angusmiranda) | 4337 comments LOL, I like the last sentence. :D

message 42: by Dante (new)

Dante (danteocualesjr) | 294 comments Oh, okay! :)

message 43: by Dante (new)

Dante (danteocualesjr) | 294 comments Angus wrote: "LOL, I like the last sentence. :D"

Hehehe...

message 44: by Angus (new)

Angus (angusmiranda) | 4337 comments You should try at least kibitzing. It's fun knowing that people are reading and that they are talking about the same book and that they are writing something about it.

message 45: by Dante (new)

Dante (danteocualesjr) | 294 comments Angus wrote: "You should try at least kibitzing. It's fun knowing that people are reading and that they are talking about the same book and that they are writing something about it."

Wow, I learned a new word today... Kibitzer... Hehehe...

message 46: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Miron (parang sa sugal ha ha)

message 47: by ☼Marian☼ (new)

☼Marian☼ (mgdc) | 243 comments KD: Thanks for clearing things up. Mali kse pagkakaintindi ko ng O.E. I thought yung eavesdropper yung nakiki-usi lang. I told you pa naman na I'm going to eavesdrop sa Amrita.

message 48: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Interested ako kung may iba pang pedeng maging role ang O.E., Marian. Like yong part na "motivator" ha ha.

Remember na experimental ang reading buddy to entice members to read kasi konti ang participation sa Book of the Month. Mukhang maganda naman at nagwo-work kahit paano.

message 49: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Po: Huy, anung nangyayari sa yu!

message 50: by Dante (new)

Dante (danteocualesjr) | 294 comments Hi K.D.,

I'm planning on doing a "reading buddy" thing on Facebook with some of my friends. Can I borrow the mechanics? Thanks!
