MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments I loved the TV show (what little bit of it that was made) and enjoyed the movie. I just recently saw a commercial that said it's being shown on the Science Channel now.

I've worn through my Firefly dvds :) So Freaking Good. I actually only watch Castle because Nathan Fillion is the star! lol

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments I never bought the DVDs, rented them from Netflix instead.

But I have a copy of The Chronicles of Riddick. Yeah. I love it. :-)

What are you going to do? Fight or Convert?

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I love this show. I watch it when it comes on. We've even done a Firefly marathon from 12pm to 3:30am one time.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

Ive wondered why they haven't done a sequel to Chronicles of Riddick and made it a proper trilogy :)

Never done a marathon, Danielle. Great idea! :)

message 6: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, *good karma* (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments I would SO love another one. I heard that they were making one. This is what I could find on IMDb:

Read Vin Diesels posts on facebook and twitter

The chronicles of riddick is going to be a trilogy (with chronicles being the first one). The second movie deals with the underverse and the third film is a return to furyia and trying to bring back his race

---

Pitch black is now considered a prequel to the trilogy and the cartoon is a bridge intended simply to introduce the toombs character and confirm there was a bounty still on riddick

If vin diesel follows through on his announcements you will end up getting:
Pitch Black + Dark Fury(cartoon) + Chronicles or Riddick + 2 more movies

And Im not talking about posts from years ago, recent posts (as in the last few weeks/months) talk about script completion (for the next film) and location scouting. So it looks like things are just starting to ramp up. And really its only about a year later than expected. A few years back vin diesel had commented that it wasnt likely for them to start production until 2010 due to other commitments, we are now at the start of 2011 and things are on track for the 2 coming sequels

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

Wow I'm surprised. Vin had pretty much fallen off the face of the Earth it seemed til his recent Fast and Furious sequels. I think they're on 10 or 11 now :) (Though I still watch them...lol) The guys no Tom Hanks or Anthony Hopkins but I do tend to enjoy his work. Go figure :)

I have to admit to being a Vin Diesel fan, too. ;) I'd heard that for quite a while he had a "no sequels" rule - the reason he wasn't in Fast & Furious 2 and xXx: State of the Union. He claimed that the only reason he broke that rule with The Chronicles of Riddick was because Pitch Black and Riddick were so very different. He classified Pitch Black as more of a horror and Riddick as Sci-Fi action.

Since he started disappearing shortly after but turned up again in Fast & Furious part 45, I'm thinking his shrinking wallet helped him to get over that rule... :)

TinaNoir | 177 comments I had a recent Firefly Marathon over Christmas break. I own the dvds and the movie. Sigh.

On a recent episode of Community (another awesome show, btw) there was a shout out to Firefly and her obsessive fans.

I wonder if they will ever go back into production. My mom told me when Star Trek was first created it was cancelled after 1 or 2 seasons. The massive up roar of cancellation made the studio put it back in production and on air.

message 11: by Maggie (new)

Maggie K | 730 comments I loved Firefly! Loved Riddick too

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I think the Firefly/Serenity tv/movie ship has sailed, unfortunately. But maybe they will do a reunion type thing. I'm still sick about the death in Serenity, which is a spoiler, so I won't say who.

message 13: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments Lady Danielle, I think they did that death to sort of kill the series for good. Or, at least, it was their way of saying that the series is over. So many fans wanted it back, though, I'm surprised that it didn't return.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

I was so shocked Danielle! That character was my fav! I agree with Jason though. I think that was kind of an obvious final nail in the coffin from the writers to kill thoughts of the show's possible return. *sigh*

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I don't watch that part of the movie when it comes on. I can't deal with it!

message 16: by Kim Marie (new)

Kim Marie | 179 comments I thought Nathan Fillion was great in the Buffy series too. Very disappointed that Firefly was given the flick before it's time....same with Farscape!

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

I never could get in to Farscape, though I tried.

Loved me some Firefly, though.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I love Farscape too. It's kind of strange, but it's good.

message 19: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, *good karma* (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments I never tired Farscape. And I don't like Stargate, either. Something just feels rather insulting about Stargate (hated the movie, too).

I guess I've turned away from the "SyFy" channel cause I don't like bad cheesy sci-fi shows (which seems to be all they are serving up right now). I've not checked their line up in years.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) You might enjoy Farascape, MrsJ. Stargate the show is pretty boring, IMHO. SyFy Channel sucks for the most part, and their movies are horrible!

message 21: by [deleted user] (last edited Mar 11, 2011 08:53AM) (new)

I enjoyed Stargate:SG1 when they stopped being so serious and became campy fun.

As for the SyFy channel line-up, there really isn't any scifi or fantasy left there. I think it's just Eureka and Warehouse13(both goofy shows), Being Human(remade brit show) and the new BSG spinoff.

Oh, and a sciency cooking show.

message 22: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, *good karma* (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments I'll cehck it out...if it doesn't conflict with Firefly. :)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) If you have Netflix, I believe Farscape is on instant view.

message 24: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, *good karma* (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments Naw, I got rid of Netflix but I have Amazon Prime... I think we get streaming something or the other.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) Maybe it's on there.

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

If you're looking for some other scifi to watch, you could always give Babylon5 a shot. Doesn't seem to get much love these days...

message 27: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, *good karma* (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments I remember Babylon! That was cute.

message 28: by [deleted user] (last edited Mar 14, 2011 04:11PM) (new)

I'll second Farscape, MrsJoseph. I didn't watch watch the series after their miraculous return but I watched the series up to the original cancellation and really enjoyed it!

message 29: by Bill (new)

Bill (kernos) | 350 comments We have a series of series on DVD which we watch round-robin, 2 episodes an evening just after dinner. These include all of the Star Treks, Babylon 5, the Stargates, Farscape, Firefly, Supernatural and throw in a few others like Lois and Clark, Buffy, Charmed... and new seasons of current series.

Right now were are doing season 3 of The Sarah Jane Adventures. We won't know if this makes it into the round-robin set until the series ends (sort of doubt it).

I find it a great way to wind down from the day's S&A.

Tracey (stewartry) Browncoats! Well of course there are Browncoats here.

Have you heard about the crazy-but-not-impossible plan for Nathan Fillion to buy the rights to Firefly? Apparently he said in an interview that if he won the lottery he'd do it. Anyone involved in something as beloved as Firefly should know better than to speak lightly, because immediately people started getting together on it. Jewel Staite and several writers have said that if it were to ever happen, they're in.

There's a website - http://helpnathanbuyfirefly.com/ - on which there's a link to a Facebook group.

It's not quite enough to get hopes up - but ... stranger things have happened.

message 32: by [deleted user] (last edited Mar 24, 2011 04:45PM) (new)

Lol @ Tracey.! Are ya feeling you found a new home here? That was my immediate reaction to the group :). When I get ridiculously rich in a few years, I'll totally fund Nathan!

message 33: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, *good karma* (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments I can second that!

message 34: by Tracey (new)

Tracey (stewartry) Heh - does it show much? :D

I think on the Firefly thing they're looking for both quantity and quality - it doesn't sound like they'll turn away the little contribution I'd be able to make.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) Kernos, I am watching various tv shows on DVD at work. It's kind of slow at times, and I just have to be on premises, so I can watch stuff in my office. Right now I am watching Alias Season 5 and Fringe Season 1. I will soon start Castle Season 1. DVD is the best thing that happened to TV for this girl!

message 36: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments Me too, Lady Danielle!

message 37: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, *good karma* (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments I stopped watching Fringe when (view spoiler)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I can't read your spoiler, because I'm so behind on this show. I know things get pretty crazy, but I didn't have a clue what was going on if I accidentally watched a recent episode.

message 39: by TinaNoir (new)

TinaNoir | 177 comments I want to start Fringe because I have heard so many good things but I've also heard to skip the whole first season. Is that possible? Would I miss a lot?

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I wouldn't skip the first season. You'll be completely lost if you do.

message 41: by [deleted user] (new)

I watched the first season, and I was completely lost while I doing so.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I like the show. I guess it's because I love science, and the idea of rogue/fringe science is very interesting. It's not always a straightforward show and they don't always answer all the questions. But I definitely don't recommend skipping the first season. A lot of the setup occurs therein.

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

I honestly stopped watching towards the end of the first season. Denethor and the kid from Dawson's Creek were fine in their roles, but the agent woman was just so wooden I couldn't get into it at all.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I like Olivia. I think she's a person who tries very hard to have control over her emotions, but doesn't always manage. She's tough, stands up for what she believes in, and she doesn't give up.

message 45: by [deleted user] (new)

Maybe it was just first-season jitters, but the actress came off as stilted and unconvincing to me.

I might give it another go someday, since the premise was intriguing.

message 46: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, *good karma* (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments She loosens up later - I think it is part of her character at first. If I'm not mistaken her fiance was recently killed at the very beginning.

message 47: by [deleted user] (new)

I can't stand Olivia...I just think the woman playing her is a poor actress but then again I also just don't care for her role. Dr. Bishop however makes the entire freaking show!

(while riding in a car)"Oh...I think I peed..don't worry..it was just a squirt" Lmao. Love that guy

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) Olivia is the foil for Walter's craziness. I agree that Walter makes the show.

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 857 comments Grant wrote: Dr. Bishop however makes the entire freaking show!

You got that right! He's brilliant and crazily humorous.
How can you say Anna Torv is a poor actress with how she plays William Bell in Olivia's body? That was pretty impressive, IMO. I agree she was stiff in the early days, but that was Olivia's character not the actress.

And Tina wrote: I've also heard to skip the whole first season. Is that possible? Would I miss a lot?

You'd miss everything, the whole basis of the show. Whoever said to skip the first season isn't all that bright or maybe they just don't get the show. But it would be a HUGE mistake to skip any of it.

Anyway, what I really came here to say is: Dammit! I rented Firefly a litle over a month ago! Too soon to watch again. It's a damn fine show. Mal is the perfect antihero: part romantic hero, part criminal and lives by a code of his own making. I love how Firefly is part western, part scifi, part action. An unlikely combination that works well.

message 50: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, *good karma* (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments I do like Dr. Bishop...and Peter. When Peter isn't being a dick.
