Anyone else able to read on the job?

Man - reading is my job. I'm a book indexer, which means I have to read the whole book and understand it so I can construct an information map for readers to come. Can be very interesting, but the novels have to await my leisure.
I'll read on my lunch hour at work, but we our company is dead in December and I get reading time in if I don't have anything to do.
I'm a teacher and I coach oral interpretation of prose and poetry so when I'm not swamped grading papers or doing other things that have to be done on my conference you can find my students who have an off period and myself on the couch reading! We find pieces, trade off books, pass good ones back and forth. I read so much because of this!
I own my business ( restaurant), and recently a guy who works part time for a publisher ask me for a part time job. I hire him on the spot. Now he is my book dealer! We also talk about the authors and the new books coming out this year. I read when is not lunch or dinner time.In the summer, when is hot out, I stay in the air conditioned dinning room and read lots. It`s good to be the boss.
Resurrecting this somewhat (browsing back through some oooold topics at the moment) - amazed how many people are able to read during their working day! I only get a little time at breaks to read, during the working day I don't get time for anything but work as we're short staffed and constantly being harangued by management. When I worked at a commercial calibration lab I had a great boss and when we used to have short periods where there was not much work on we tended to all chat. I never felt comfortable getting out a book and reading during work time though - too many years of bosses who'd go berserk if you were seen not working for even a moment. :-(Working in a used bookshop sounds great, though I'm not sure I'd like dealing with the public!
One of my many freelance jobs is being a professional paid book reviewer so I definitely read books on the job all the time! =P
I volunteer at an Oxfam bookstore, and it's quite common to see other volunteers reading while on the till if the shop's quiet. I think our manager actually encourages it to some degree - maybe it's in the hope that it'll entice customers into buying books if they see the staff reading. :P
Not usually, but this current job I read when my boss is on vacation. He's going away next week so tons of reading time in store for me, yay! Good thing too as I have a few series to catch up on and on a big reading splurge. It's a University bookstore so it's pretty quiet and you can go in the afternoon without many, if any, customers. Typically my manager is there, and one of us, not all three at the same time so I'll be alone.
That sounds like the perfect retirement job…. I would love to be able to read and earn a little money to boot! I would jump at a job like that if I wasn’t expected to work a forty-hour week.
At work I can listen to music while working so I download unabridged audio books. Sometimes I do stand my kindle up next to my computer and actually start reading a book.

I am a school librarian. I can read picture books at work, but that is about it. I am waaaaaaaayyyyy too busy for any lengthy reading.
I work in an office doing customer service, and during slow days then yes, I do read. I figure if it's ok to browse the web when it's slow then it has to be ok to read a book too, right?
Of course reading 'on the job' can have other connotations... ;-)Make sure you don't get engrossed and sit on the pan too long people or you could end up with haemorrhoids!
I'm self-employed so I can do pretty much whatever I want, whenever I want. In my old job I was able to read over my lunch break
When I read Then We Came to the End a few weeks ago, there was a character, Hank, who brought his library book to work, photocopied the pages, and read at his desk. Hmmmm...I read at breaks and lunch at work.
Oh, I wish I can read on the job. Alas it's not allowed. Anyway, there is so much noise in the office, and I can't concentrate on a book even if I wanted to.
I just started an ambulance job so when we're waiting for a call or on the way back from a long transport (if I don't have to drive obviously) I have an opportunity to read. It's pretty cool, but in one more week that reading time will shift to textbook studying unfortunately lol
Now that I have a job in the real world (as opposed to the Army war world) I can only read during lunch when I am not bothered by coworkers.
We have plenty of space between customers at the small Bible bookstore where I volunteer. I love to read alot and often have much time at work to read.
Does anyone here find it hard to concentrate though? Like maybe you're worried about others walking up and surprising you or about missing something, etc?
Where I work (propane company) we are super busy in the winter and have huge blocks of down time in the summer so I get to read then as long as I am around to answer the phone if it rings. Its great!
I'm currently working at a university library, but it will be over at the end of the month. It's summer so it's very slow going, not a lot of students on campus. So I basically get to read for an entire work shift most days. I'm going to miss that part when I get a job where I actually have to work (LOL).
I'm a stay-at-home with with no kids. I do some volunteer work here and there and do a bit of social networking for my dad's non-profit organization, but most of the time all I do is read.
I am able to listen to audio books all during the day on my job and read during my break/lunch time. What a blessing!! I also checkout audio books for others to listen to at work.

I only get to read on my breaks, as I work in retail on registers. I used to do some writing in between customers, but now that I am on service desk, there's absolutely no time to myself apart from breaks.
I am a specimen processor.Depending on the workload and how fast I process, I can read from 2 to 3 books a week.I am also a very fast reader.I count myself lucky to have a cloud reader at my disposal.
I usually get to read only on my breaks, except on night shifts when there are no real breaks, so sometimes when it's quiet, I can manage to read quite a lot during the shift. But as always, work comes first.

Back in December of 2009, I started a brand new job. My job previously was working in retail cashiering and stocking. My new job was in an office at a call center. Or to be more..."
I work for a Laboratory and process specimens for Healthcare.I LOVE my job because I have sooo much free time. We are not getting raises this year but I make decent money already and am soooo lucky to have this job. No one watches over your shoulder and they pretty much let us be so I read at least 2 books per week.I do keep busy when there are things to do, but when I am caught up, I read.
