specialka | 3 comments Hello!
I wanted to try one of her books. Can anyone recommend a really really good one?
Thanks!

message 2: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 871 comments I have read all of her books. The Desparate Duchess series is great! I always read in order. But my favorite is Duchess By Night (Desperate Duchesses, #3) by Eloisa James ...but i think its the 3rd book.

Eloisa has a group here on Goodreads, check it out!

she is an acquired taste; a bit different. I would suggest her newest one - WHEN BEAUTY TAMED THE BEAST - which I consider her most accessible yet

message 7: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 62 comments I only read the first book in the Duchess series. It was ok but not the best book. Several of my reading friends suggest to keep on reading. I have a few more of her books on my list to read.

message 8: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 871 comments At first I did find her books sort of confusing. she introduces all the characters, and has many mant sub plots, that sometimes are hard to kee track of. But I still like her stuff!

message 9: by seton (new)

seton (lindaseton42) yep, an acquired taste. You definitely have to get used to her aesthetics.

message 10: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 62 comments Yeah, definitely a lot of characters at once :)

Autumn (sweetdenial) | 1625 comments thats all very insightful!! given that Aprli`s book club selection is A Kiss at Midnight (Happily Ever Afters, #1) by Eloisa James

I really enjoyed her novella The Lady Most Likely... A Novel in Three Parts by Julia Quinn her part was by far the most developed in the whole book... I wonder how her full length books are.

message 12: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 871 comments I'm planning to get When Beauty Tamed the Beast this week. Its supposed to be very good.

message 13: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (sadstrumpetjenny) I really want to love her, because she is such a fresh and witty writer, but I sometimes have a hard time with her heroes. Some of their behavior is just beyond the pale for me. I think I hold grudges against them, long past the reconciling! That said, I have only read her older novels, like the Pleasures series, Your Wicked Ways, and Much Ado About You. Sounds like I should try the Desperate Duchesses.

message 14: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 871 comments yep, try them Jennifer! Good reads!

MashJ | 733 comments tbh I read one and was somewhat meh- didn't love it, didn't hate it, couldn't really be a**ed to buy any more though.

it was this one

Midnight Pleasures (Pleasures, #2) by Eloisa James

message 16: by Lori (new)

Lori Baldi I've taken up A Kiss at Midnight (Happily Ever Afters, #1) by Eloisa James as my first book by Ms James. I like to try other romance authors who come highly recommended. I'm not sure that I picked the right book for the 1st since I don't usually look at the fairy tales but it is certainly different from my regular reads.

message 17: by Fiona (new)

Fiona Goodman I love this book. It was the first of her's that I read and I just kept getting more! I hope you enjoy it

message 18: by Fiona (new)

Fiona Goodman Also, when Beauty Tamed the Beast is really great too.

Midnight pleasurs was not a strong books for EJ...think its was her first or one of the first. The seem to gte better as she goes on.

she really changed her writing style since then so that bk is not indicative of her style anymore. it's pretty much like a different writer.

message 21: by MashJ (new)

MashJ | 733 comments I'm listening! I'll try her agin.

message 22: by seton (new)

seton (lindaseton42) like i said, try her latest one - WHEN BEAUTY TAMED THE BEAST. one of my friends read that after reading one of her PLEASURES bk and she was very happy with it.
