Michael Duncan, Author: Shadows: Book of Aleth, Part One

Thanks, Carolyn! I appreciate the encouragement. :)

I'm Heather, a lifelong sci fi / fantasy fan, and now a writer of same. I have a steampunk novel (Timepiece) currently on the Goodreads shelves, and I am always on the lookout for more cool things to read and people with whom to discuss cool things I've read... can't wait to explore this group further!

Some subtitles would be appreciated Veronica. But welcome to the group from someone who often isn't here. Being that you like fantasy and things Chinese, I might suggest you read the section called "White Tigers" in Maxine Hong Kingston's "The Woman Warrior." The novel is a little like Amy Tan's books about daughters of Chinese mothers growing up in America and the section I mentioned above is seemingly an escapist fantasy in which the young woman narrating the book (the author) is trained by Taoist Immortals to become a warrior. Food for thought if you haven't already read it. There's also Under Heaven by Guy Percival but to be honest, that book begins to unravel the farther you to into it.

Hi Veronica! If you don't mind me asking, are you also from China?

Here are some English-language sf/f set in China I like:

The last two also have some dystopia elements:)

My name is Michael, and I hail from Fairfax VA. I'm an author of Epic Fantasy (The Riyria Revelations is hitting the street next week) from Orbit (Fantasy Imprint of Hachette Book Group). I'm glad to have found this group.

The books are based on some books that I self published: The Crown Conspiracy, Avempartha, Nyphron Rising, The Emerald Storm, Wintertide which were publsihed from Oct 2008 - Oct 2010.

So it goes like this:
Theft of Swords: The Crown Conspiracy and Avempartha
Rise of Empire: Nyphron Rising and The Emerald Storm
Heir of Novron: Wintertide and Percepliquis
The series was bought before Percepliquis hit the market so in January when Heir of Novron comes out there will also be stand alone versions of Percepliquis (but only for a short while the it will be put "out of print" like the other 5.

Welcome, new members! I'm Alexandra, YA author and reader. :D

My name is Mark, just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I'm a huge Sci-Fi fan and currently have a Sci-Fi trilogy in the works. When I'm not writing, I'm an artist in multiple mediums specializing in tattooing. Looking forward to getting to know you all! Take care!

Hello. I just joined. I'm a writer and publicist. I'm exploring Good Reads. And I'm curious to see what everyone is reading these days in the genres that I usually read myself and in the genres that I help publicize books.

I think what I love about heroic fantasy most is the way the weak and trod upon rise above it all and find more inside of themselves. Bilbo, Sassinak, Harry Potter sort of make you think, "Damn...if they could get out of their own way, maybe I can, too!:

Lorenzo here. This group sounded interesting so here I am. I like science fiction and fantasy, as well as a good bit of mainstream fiction, with a dash of horror on the side. I'..."
Hi Lorenzo, we do have some book discussions and some of them are on popular works like The Mists of Avalon or Earthsea, and you're welcome to set up any new discussion topics. On the other hand, none of them seem to be active since last December, so it would be nice if someone can lead discussions somehow.

As you can guess, like many another pro writer who joins a group like this, I've done so partly with the nefarious goal of self-promotion. But I will strive not to relentlessly spam the group with announcements of my new releases and stuff like that.
