Candidates for Next Month's Read

I just noticed that it's available on Hoopla, so if anyone here doesn't want to buy it but has a library with Hoopla access, that's one way to get it. Also I see that one of my libraries has it on Overdrive -- probably because the author won the Booker Prize (for a different book) last year. So maybe check your library too?

LOL!
And thank you for mentioning Hoopla! I had seen that and meant to mention it and completely forgot. YES, it's on Hoopla!!!

We start our new BOM thread today!"
Yay! Thanks, Jordan. :)
Hey everyone, Josh’s Spring release date just got moved back to late August according to Amazon so we need to choose a new book for next month! I hope you don’t mind, but I took the liberty of choosing the two books that tied for second place in our last poll and made a new poll with them:
https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/2...
Voting ends Thursday!

Voting ends Thursday!
Also, what if for the next poll I mine past polls for books that didn’t get chosen to eliminate a nomination round once or twice? Is that acceptable? Or would you rather we nominate as usual?

Second place is the first loser.

It is a good idea, and in fact it is something we mumbled about for a while, but then no one ever remembered to do, because new, shiny books come out ;-).
Yeah, anyone can renominate something at any time. I’m just going to be deliberate about it. That said, if there’s anything specific anyone wants to vote on again, let me know!

I've read it, and I loved it.
I just wanted to contribute with a bit more than: «I loved it», that's why I didn't say anything ;-).

I'm hoping to start it very soon. Maybe even today. :)

I haven't read Mr. Loverman yet; I've actually been having trouble "getting into" any books, recently. I read the first few pages and they don't grab my interest. Same with 11:59 and If It Bleeds and Devoted and lots of books of all kinds (also Bloodlands but only because it's so terribly disturbing; I've tried to read it several times but just can't get through it.)
Five months of isolation and even I managed to OD on reading.
I had planned on reading this other book that I've had for awhile this month, so I'm working to finish that one first. I feel kinda bad because the author, Lou Harper, even signed it for me and I've had it sitting on a shelf forever. So, I'm making sure I read it. :-) So, either tomorrow or the next day (cross your fingers) I will be starting Mr. Loverman! Can't wait!
I think it's tough. If you really liked something, you often have less to say about it, than if you hated it. lol.

When I first started to write reviews I thought that to give a book 5 stars was kind of self-explanatory. Now I try to make an effort if I like and also if I dislike it.

I see I have written four reviews on Goodreads. Two are pans (one-star); and one is an "OK but please read the original version (Dark Carnival) instead of the revised (The October Country)". I have one five-star review, which I originally wrote for a newsletter to describe that month's book club activity, so I figured I might as well use it. No other reviews at all, beyond stars.

Ugh, I totally missed that poll. I'd like to blame it on how GR isn't reliably sending me notifications, but honestly I think my brain just isn't pulling its weight nowadays. 🤨 I won't be joining you for that one -- I read the sample and passed on it. But I hope it's a keeper for the rest of the team!
Hi Everyone,
I have gone through our poll results from 2019 and back into 2018, and I chose four titles for us to vote on for our September read. you can see the poll here: https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/2... The poll will be up until next Thursday.

LOL. They were chosen kind of randomly. Next month might be based on what’s left from this poll or might be culled from other past polls again. I think there were a few books in the past that had a somewhat healthy three votes. Lol.
I’ve not been reading much lately, I can’t seem to get motivated, or to find the time. I end up reading about a page or two before I’m falling asleep at night. And two pages a day isn’t going to get me very far. Lol.

Thank you for organising the poll.
Hi everyone,
I have two polls for you this month in an effort to get us back to voting ahead so that folks can borrow titles from their library or request that titles be purchased by their library.
The first poll is for October 2020: https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/2...
The second poll is for November 2020: https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/2...
Keep in mind that should Josh publish something these poll results will get pushed back.
I have pulled these titles from previous polls throughout 2019 and 2020. These at one time or another had votes. But after these two, we will definitely need to take nominations again, unless there are enough votes for second titles from these two polls.
Let me know if you have any questions or thoughts!

Yay! Yeah, some of these still look really good. I just finally voted myself, but it was a really hard call. I think I'd be up for keeping some of these titles around for awhile. lol.

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to thank those of you who took the time to vote on our two polls and to announce our poll winners for our upcoming BOMs!!!
Our October read will be: Catalysts: The Scientific Method
Our November read will be: Two Man Station
Please keep in mind that if Josh publishes something else, these will get bumped in favor of anything from Josh!
Also, as we had good voting for some of the other books on both polls, I will very likely use those in one more poll where we take the top two choices and run with them.

I see that RW&RB has been added to Kindle Unlimited. Normally it's an expensive ebook, so it's nice to see it made available to folks who subscribe to KU. If that applies to anyone here, it's not too late to join the BOM discussion currently underway.

Thanks! I got it out from the library and I'm about to lose it, and there's a waiting list. So now I can finish it, in time for the discussion even!
It was a DNF for me the first time around. Actually, more of a DNS: I read the first page, was not in the mood for a silly NA romance, put it down and didn't pick it up again until yesterday.
I'm really enjoying it now, but I have classwork and my internship so I'm pretty sure my loan will expire before I can finish it.
Oh, that is good news, Antonella! Thanks for letting us know!
I bought my copy when it was on sale awhile back. I'm hoping to start it this week. my other book group discussion is tomorrow night so I should be able to start this one tomorrow or the day after. :-) I think I need a light read right about now so I'm looking forward to it!

I suspect that you meant to thank Teal ;-).

Oh! You're right! I must have seen the sorta similar blues of your profile pics and thought it was you.

Hi everyone,
I have a quick question for you. As we've been having very short conversations about the BOM titles we're reading, I'm wondering if we change our model it might help drive more conversation. Feel free to say no, this is really just a suggestion, but would you want to choose a specific day and time to have a conversation here about each title? So we could say something like the 4th Saturday of every month at some prearranged time, or maybe just take the entire day to accommodate all the time differences? Rather than have this take the whole month?
Let me know your thoughts and if you want, I can put up a poll.
Thanks!

I know! There are several on here I'd like to read!
But hey, if folks are in agreement, whatever comes in second place could be our next read. That'll save on having to nominate and vote again at least for a little while. As well as the fact that there are so many good choices on this list!
