I would blame doctors more than her parents. If a doctor is eager to perform a treatment- however experimental - they can make it seem perfectly palatable. And parents who want their child to be "normal" will do anything to achieve that goal. I wonder if the doctors said "this is a trial and error process and we haven't done many of these before." More likely they said "we have a good chance of fixing the problem with her brain."
