Lalalalaaa | 20 comments How about the hunger games and the body finder? I bought them on amazon about a month ago and I'm guessing I'll get them sometime next month.. any of you guys read them? I have really high expecations because of all the raving reviews.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Hunger Games is a great one! It's not really about romance though because the books are dystopian, but the story is quite engaging.

There is a love triangle, but it's not the focus of the books.

message 53: by Leea (new)

Leea I have them on my bookshelf at home but just don't feel like i have to read them... Maybe someday!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) You mean study, right? Because I'm pretty sure you read Hunger Games.

message 55: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I love Hunger Games. I've never read Body Finder. Alot of people tell me to read Poisen Study but I haven't gotten them yet.

My favorite Dystopian/Fantasy trilogy was Chaos Walking.

Nothing short of what you did Wendy. I went to our local Borders that is closing. I was shocked at the line to the registers. It ran from the front all the way to the back by the now closed cafe. (sniff, sniff love my caramel mocha). I was even more surprised because the discounts really weren't that deep. The place looked ransacked. It actually brought tears to my eyes. But I will go back of course.

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 438 comments ahhh i hope they have the books I want and I didn't wait too long!!

message 60: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) It gave me heartache to see mine too. My grandma and I spent hours there with my daughter when she was an infant and now the cafe is all closed down and it's bare and... yeah, it was so very sad.

Ladyhawk | 381 comments Peytavi, I loved all your reviews. Very clever!

Sometimes i wonder if Twilight's not the rip off. Lol. I think some of the books mentioned were published before Twilight. Somehow Twilight got all the film industry attention.

message 63: by Ladyhawk (new)

Ladyhawk | 381 comments So true Ottilie, so true.

message 64: by Leea (new)

Leea Ladies the best deal was in the clearance sections... hardbacks for like $5.99 with 30% off :) Mine looks the same ~ ransacked for 20% off. It's so sad though!!

message 65: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 438 comments Its sad, but true Ladyhawk. oh wow! That's a steal!!

message 66: by Ladyhawk (new)

Ladyhawk | 381 comments Wendy F wrote: " yeah, it was so very sad."

yes, even my youngest commented on how "it had such a good feeling here".

Going back tomorrow Ottilie. See if that BDB 6 book boxed set is still there! Tee hee.

message 67: by Leea (new)

Leea ohhh hope you luck out ~ Good snag if you do. I feel bad for all the people loosing their jobs. Sucks!

message 68: by Ladyhawk (new)

Ladyhawk | 381 comments Thanks Leea. It is bitter sweet.

Thanks!
I've actually heard that Twilight is almost the same story as The Vampire Diaries, which was released in the 90's. I want to read them just because of that! (Oh, and yeah, I like the tv series). I really hate seeing SO obvious similarities, even though I guess no idea is completely original. But it just makes the author look bad to me. "Oh, Stephenie Meyer made a shitload of money on that vampire book of hers, let's publish something similar and see what happens". Like they're writing for the wrong reason.. you know?

message 70: by Lalalalaaa (new)

Lalalalaaa | 20 comments Ah, I'm so jealous of you guys. I'd love to live in a place where I could actually get the books I wanted in .. wait for it.. A BOOKSTORE! I swear I'd probably be living there lol. Then again, I do love online shopping so I probably shouldn't complain :) nothing compares to the feeling of taking my brand new books out of the mail box!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Did you read the series? I was told by so many people (quite a few, actually) that VD was such a bad book series, so I never picked it up. I wasn't going to watch the show but ended up getting into it after a couple of friends got me hooked on it. The show isn't reinventing the wheel or anything, but it's an alright time filler.

message 72: by Gwennie (last edited Feb 23, 2011 08:15AM) (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I have read the first 4 original Vampire Diaries books multiple times. When I was in Junior High and High school LJ Smith was one of my favorite Authors. (Her Secret Circle books were her best, IMO.)

I love them, but logically I know that it's because they hold sentimental value for me. When I separate myself from that I know that the writing is sub-par (in the Vamp Diaries, better in Secret Circle). The brothers Stephan and Damon are the best part, especially Damon, but Elena is one of those whiny simpering selfish girls I mentioned before. I've not read the newer ones in the series that just came out. People I've talked to who loved the originals all hate the new ones, I'm pretty sure I will too. I'll stick to the show, which I also love. The show is VERY different from what happens in the book. The only thing that is remotely the same is some of the characters.

The funny thing is that they are a lot like Twilight. I read Twilight and thought it was funny how many similarities there were to Vamp Diaries. I remember thinking that she must have read them when she was young. Then I loaned my friend Vamp Diaries after she read Twilight and she didn't like them because she thought the author had too much like Twilight. I had to point out that the Vamp Diaries came out over a decade ago, so Stephanie was the copycat not Smith, lol. It was interesting.

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 438 comments Ah lucky!! I don't know when I am going I'm hoping to sneak over Friday morning!!

message 74: by Ladyhawk (new)

Ladyhawk | 381 comments Peytavi, I'm sorry you do not get to enjoy the book store "experience". And yes, most of us here share your sentiment in that we would like to live there too. We bookworms( of which I think the term bookworm is seriously outdated and I challenge all of you to bring us into the twenty first century with a more sophisticated term!) tend to find the smell of a book house strangely intoxicating! Mix it with the aroma of coffee and it's a wonder we ever leave the place. LOL

As far as Twilight VS Vamp Diaries VS Vamp Academy, well to each his own on those. I do agree the Vamp Diaries series is alot of fun. Damon being too hot for his own good! But it does seem that after Twilight, stories of Vamps and werewolves were coming out of the woodwork!

message 75: by Ladyhawk (new)

Ladyhawk | 381 comments And PS I do try to buy locally to support those local bookstores whenever I can. And that goes for other goods and services as well. If the price is comparable to buying on line, I try to always buy local.

message 76: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 438 comments haha i dont' think bookworm will never be outdated. oh i love the smell of books! bookstores have their own scent

message 77: by Ladyhawk (new)

Ladyhawk | 381 comments I am seriously addicted to books like the rest of you! But for some reason I just do not relate to the term "bookworm"! It' drives me crazy! Our addiction seems too serious for just "Bookworm". lol

message 78: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 438 comments book addict?

message 79: by Ladyhawk (new)

Ladyhawk | 381 comments Ottilie wrote: "book addict?"

Without a doubt! But will that term earn me some respect?! lol!

message 80: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 438 comments Hahaha depends on where you are saying it. Here yes possibly, around others maybe not so much...

message 81: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I go into a bookstore and spend hours. It is my and my Grandmothers favorite outing together. We've been doing it for years. Sit at a bookstore and have a coffee. Always my Borders that closed down, sniff sniff.

Ottilie wrote: "Hahaha depends on where you are saying it. Here yes possibly, around others maybe not so much..."

I say we're 'book crazies'~ or 'literary junkies'

message 83: by Lalalalaaa (new)

Lalalalaaa | 20 comments Haha, literary junkies :) I like that.

Last time I was in London, the first thing I did was to run out and track down a huge book store. I can't believe how much money I spent! Coffee in one hand, tons of books in the other. Wish I could do that every day. But I've got no reason to complain because I got three books in the mail today. BLISS!!!

message 84: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 438 comments Hahaha I agree! Literary junkies!! I'm planning on doing a raiding on the closing borders by me on saturday

message 85: by Leea (new)

Leea I finally got NH#5 at the books store and i just walked around (kid free :) for like an hour visiting my favorite books... You ever do that? I like to walk past the BH and Check to see how it's going. Then i love to look at all the new books that i could one day read and finally i have to check out the clearance section just in case one needs to come home with me. AHHH Book Bliss is right Peytavi!!

message 89: by Lalalalaaa (last edited Feb 24, 2011 04:48PM) (new)

Lalalalaaa | 20 comments I'd love to do that Leea. I'm planning on studying abroad, and if I do, I'm definitely getting a job at a book store. How amazing would that be? I can picture it! Of course, in my head I don't actually WORK, I just swim around in all the beautiful new books and then hide somewhere to read them all with a gigantic cup of coffee and no one ever catches me.

Hahaha, hi Wendy, Leea and Ottilie! The first step is admitting it :))

message 90: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 438 comments Haha I wish you luck with your plan Peytavi!! Haha that's actually what I tell a couple of my guy friends, one of which is my ex they usually just laugh and roll their eyes

message 91: by Leea (new)

Leea Ahhh to be young again... I would do so much different (not really i have some wonderful boys :) like travel and just do more... Good luck ladies it sounds wonderful and i hope you get to do it.

message 92: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 438 comments I can't really study abroad with my major you are lucky!!

message 93: by Ladyhawk (new)

Ladyhawk | 381 comments My first job at age 14 was a page in a library. My job was to shelve all the returned books. Yeah, I know heaven!

I think "literary junkie" brings us into the 21st century! lol
