Yaaayyyy! I finished the book with a few days to spare- My Favourite Wife. So challenge completed :D!!

My book has more pages than all the ones on GR does..so I don't really understand why it's different. And it's not just a few pages different it's like 20+ difference.

Laura, a couple of questions with my "librarian hat" on.

What is the ISBN of your boook?
What is the last page of the story?
Are you including stuff after the last page of the story in your number count, and if so, what? Some things count, others do not.

978-0-00-722649-8 is the ISBN
The last page of the story is on 405.

If you include the after pages (which i wasn't including for the number count) it brings the book up to 423 pgages. These pages include an interview with the writer about the book and some pages about his other books.

Straight from the Librarian Manual:

The number of pages in a book is meant to include all content except for advertisements and preview chapters for other books. Included end material may include acknowledgments, afterwords, appendices, glossaries, indexes, notes, and suggested discussion questions.

Introductory material paged using roman numerals is not included in the total page count.

So I'd say you would include the author interview, as it is about that book, but not the pages about the other books.

Is everything else but the page numbers the same as your copy of the book?

So tell me the revised number of pages and I'll fix it and anything else that needs fixing.

The extra stuff (interview/extracts) from p.406 isn't numbered in the book, it's blank where the numbers would go. But still the story ends on p.405 not 368.

I'm a little confused because I saw the Kindle version saying it had over 600 pages.

But if you include the interview the book goes to- 412 pages.

Otherwise everything else is the same.

Kindle numbers are fictious as they aren't a fixed numbering system, only epub or pdfs are used for numbering. So the 600 is just Amazon logic, not! LOL

Good morning all

Well I ran out of steam with the Autumn Challenge a few weeks ago but I still managed 5 books which has been my goal for the Challenges that I have taken part in. I am very happy with achieving that realistic goal. I need to shoe horn reading in with a lot of other activities and goals so I don't get to read as much as I would love to.

Looking forward to the next Challenge as I have a new and interesting strategy for book selection on that one. :)

No Jessica, 5 books for the Challenge. :D I read a couple of others that were outside of the Challenge but since I need to balance reading with all of my other commitments I find that five is an achievable target for me.

Thanks for your support everyone, tax season starts in five weeks so my effort for the winter challenge needs to be very carefully managed as my life becomes a bit chaotic until October.

Didn't get to finish all the books I wanted to read for this challenge but I read 8/10.

Over the last couple of days I finished three books, so I am done (10/10), except I cheated and shifted my REDUCE book to IDES OF MARCH.

I reread The Ladies of Missalonghi for about the tenth time. This is one of my all time favourite books, a feel good book, and not lonk after I first read it I was told that she ? plagiarised it from an American novel, which I found and read ... vaguely similar plots, but no where near as good.

I finished Shattered Sky which means I completed the REDUCE pile. Good book, got a bit bogged down in the romance, but liked the heroine. Will probably read other books in the series if there are any more to come.

Finished Last Sacrifice. Also got bogged down in the romance bit ... which shows how unromantic I must be, but there were some moments which had me hanging out to read more. It was the quickest almost 600 pages I have read for a longwhile. Only finished this about 2 hours ago ... was cutting it fine!

I'm amazed to find that I've actually completed this Challenge, even though it did come down to the wire with my re-read of Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe only finished today! It's still a 5 Star read for me and will remain on my Favourites list (loved the movie too). The only other book to receive 5 Stars this time was The Inheritance & Other Stories - no surprise to anyone who knows that Robin Hobb is my favourite fantasy author and this book has the added advantage of containing stories from her as both Megan Lindholm and Robin Hobb, with both very distinct writing styles.

The rest of my reads (with only one exception) were all very enjoyable and received 4 Stars from me:

A Curse Dark as Gold was a very well researched and nicely written retelling of the Rumpelstiltskin fairytale. Occasionally I wanted to shake some of the main characters but not enough for it to spoil the story.

The Tin Ticket: The Heroic Journey of Australia's Convict Women is the non-fiction story of the shocking poverty and desperation which forced these women into crime and how their strength of character helped build our nation. A must read for anyone interested in our history.

In the Woods is an Irish murder mystery but it's set apart from other whodunits by it's superior style of writing, the interesting but not necessarily always likeable main character and his personal journey throughout the investigation.

Australia Street is a little bit special for me because it's set in the area where my mother grew up and so many of the issues dealing with problems after WWII interest me personally.

Walter the Farting Dog: How could I not include my six year old granddaughter's favourite bedtime story. The book appeals to that age group's love of toilet humour and pets....even the illustrations have their funny side.

The Housekeeper and the Professor is a beautifully written story, in an understated way, about the relationship between a young Japanese woman, her son and a mathematics professor who, because of an accident, has only 80 minutes of memory. It's a very simple and gentle story of how numbers managed to draw these people together.

The Writing Class was an unexpected pleasure to read as it delved into the lives of a teacher and her students in a rather bizarre writing class. Lots of dark humour in this one.

I've only given 3 Stars to The Last Watch because I didn't feel it came up to the standard of the previous books in that series in either the writing style or the characterisations.
