Kelly Flanagan | 23 comments I just finished a run of the L.A. Banks series The Vampire Huntress.Although I don't think the name does the series or the Heroine credit as it is about far more than hunting vamps. In fact the vamp hunting is only a small part of this great series. I read books 3-9 this month, and have to wait for the last 2-3. Plus I need the break. I read a few in between them, mostly Charles de Lint Newark series. He is now my fav Canadian author ATM.He seamlessly brings urban and fantasy together.
I have also started another Robin Hobb series - 'the Liveship Traders' - I'm about to start book two; The Mad Ship. Her Soldier Son's trilogy blew me away as not many books have. Shaman's Crossing Forest Mage Renegade's Magic This series hasn't disapointed me either!

Well if you like the Soldier Son's series, then you're in for a treat with the rest of her work. The Soldier ones are usually the least appreciated of her works. I liked them, but only because I was already a huge fan of her when I read them... Farseer and Liveship and Tawny Man are soooo much better (IMO of course).

I didn't like the Liveship books very much, actually, but I *loved* Farseer and Tawny Man and quite liked Soldier's Son. Haven't read her newest offering yet, I'll probably wait until the trilogy is finished.

Dawn (breakofdawn) The Dragon Keeper/Haven books? It's just the two, so it's already complete.

Sandi (sandikal) | 338 comments I started listening to Pandora's Star yesterday. I'm thinking that this book just might be better in print. Today, I started listening to Revolution, a non-genre YA novel that's received rave reviews. I'm really enjoying it, but I can't recommend it to teens I know in good conscience. (However, I do hope they'll read it.)

In text, I'm reading Slaughterhouse-Five on my Nook and Twilight Zone: 19 Original Stories on the 50th Anniversary.

Oh, that's good to know. All her others have been trilogies so I guess I just assumed this one was too. Will have to look for them... :)

Dawn (breakofdawn) Definitely, although if you didn't like Liveship, you may not like them as much either. They follow the events of Liveship... Not that much character overlap, but there is some, and it's set in the Rain Wilds. There is no Farseer/Fool overlap, as far as I remember. But still... They are completely different from Liveship so definitely give them a chance.

Christine | 637 comments @Sandi, I have a PB copy of Pandora's Star you can borrow; I also have Judas Unchained which I started bu haven't finished yet. I could also lend that one to you but would eventually want it back

Nope
In my opinion he needs an a better editor, He spent way too much time setting up his story instead if just getting on with it.

Christine | 637 comments Unfortunately, he does a "backstory" on every character; this is why I haven't gotten very far in the sequel (or perhaps this is simply the second half of one book?? I really want to know how this story resolves...

message 62: by Ken (new)

Ken (ogi8745) | 1430 comments The idea behind the story is great but is convoluted way he gets there is a drag.

Cool, thanks. Hobb has written enough that I've loved that I will definitely give it a chance, even though I didn't like the Liveship books much :)
