It might not have been made into one. Not all books are allowed in e-format due to publishers. My library doesn't have this one so I'm going to have to a wait a few months before I can give it a chance.

message 5: by Mairead (new)

Mairead | 65 comments I've had it for months now, because I got an arc, and only got around to reading it lately. It's different. The first book builds up the world brilliantly, and there are many twists and turns to keep you hooked. The second book might even be better, and I'm looking forward to seeing where Revis goes with this.

Jami (gurugoodwin) | 53 comments Ahh, I remember watching the movie a long time ago.

This isn't the same as the movie.
I just realized the cover is 2 people about to kiss. I never enlarged it and what I was seeing was some dude's back with what looked like one of those hats from the Renaissance. I never let my eyes focus on the cover and just always quickly glanced passed it since I was never interested in it (having thought it was based on the movie.)

message 8: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine (jadorejas94) | 950 comments Woahh! I never knew it was two people about to kiss either. I just thought it was two blobs of shimmery stuff connected. . .O.o I thought it'd make more sense after reading it.

This isn't the same as the movie? huh. I always thought it was. I wanted to watch the movie after seeing the trailer but never got the chance to.

Unless we're talking different movies.

Here's the synopsis:

Seventeen-year-old Amy joins her parents as frozen cargo aboard the vast spaceship Godspeed and expects to awaken on a new planet, three hundred years in the future. Never could she have known that her frozen slumber would come to an end fifty years too soon and that she would be thrust into the brave new world of a spaceship that lives by its own rules.

Amy quickly realizes that her awakening was no mere computer malfunction. Someone-one of the few thousand inhabitants of the spaceship-tried to kill her. And if Amy doesn't do something soon, her parents will be next.

Now Amy must race to unlock Godspeed's hidden secrets. But out of her list of murder suspects, there's only one who matters: Elder, the future leader of the ship and the love she could never have seen coming.

Suzanne I finished this last week in about a day and a half and loved it. I thought it was different and loved the characters. Can't wait to see how the world expands in the next one.

message 11: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine (jadorejas94) | 950 comments Yea, they are completely different. This one sounds great! I read the first few pages at my BJs today and liked it. I'll probably buy it from bn.com since it's really cheap there. It's weird, the hardcover is cheaper than the ebook. O.o

message 12: by [deleted user] (last edited Feb 02, 2011 07:03AM) (new)

I'm 12% in. Too early to have much of an opinion on it, but i'm excited to see where this is going. One thing that I've noticed though that the chapters seem unnessarily short. Like Amy will be in this stream of conciousness and then they abruptly cut to Elder and while he is still in conversation they switch back to Amy and she's still just thinking and talking away.
The quick switches between Amy & Elder just seem a bit unnessarily. I hope that makes sense, can't really explain it haha

message 13: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I will read this one, but not sure when. Since it is a newer release and my library is slow with new books. I have requested it and am #5 on the list, but they show that they haven't even bought it yet, so who knows when it will come in.

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments I hope to get te audio from my library this week or next. I think I was 8 in the list, but now I am only 2.

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 1272 comments Picked it up today so Many good books came out I had to choose between this and I Am Number 4 I chose this for now because I've heard more good things about it than I am Number Four. The way people are talking about this if It hasnt been made into a movie yet it will be. So I might as well Jump on the Bandwagon early.

message 16: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 1272 comments So far the book is pretty good. I thought that it sounded familiar so I looked at the copywrite. It says that the name ACROSS THE UNIVERSE was copywrited in 1970 and that they renewed it ands are using it with permission from sony.

message 17: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 1272 comments Because of the Description on the book flap I thought the book would be a little more action packed and have a little more of Amys personality. But so far she is just there as part of the story and we dont really get to know her much. I have alot more to go I am only about 90 pgs in. Im feeling like we get to know Elder alot more than Amy and feel his purpose in the book more. The book is slow paced and leasiurly but its not boring because I keep wanting to read more to find out what is really going on and why are all these lies being told.

message 18: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments Some things seem really obvious to me, so hopefully I am wrong. I like it, but I thought it would be more action packed and thrilling like Charakra did. I have the audiobook so I can't get through it as fast as I normally would. Maybe if I was reading it I wouldn't feel it was so slow going.

I hate Eldest too. And he's a Drunk or Drug addict one. Maybe both. I think thats the smell that Elder always smells on him.

No your right it is slow going. Im reading the Hardback edition and it is very slow moving.

message 22: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 1272 comments I think the hard back of this book is worth getting if you like to collect rare covers. This books cover is actually two in one the first one is the one we see everywhere but if you take that off it has another one on the reverside side that has the ship on it. Its really cool.

message 23: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments I liked it, but everythingwas super easy to figure out. I mean I knew 10% into the book what was going on.

message 31: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments I think it must be a picture of what Chakara was mentioning above. I don't like that somebody changed it for the main cover though. I used to have librarian status (I don't know how I got it though), maybe I will see if I still do and go change it.

Huh. You are way over your head in a foreign place with foreign people and you've been told to stay put in your room for your own safety, but you MUST run and decide to just stomp out of there care free. Really, Amy?

yeah right now I really dislike Amy and she is slowing myprogress of the book down. She just seems so stupid even I had common sense at her age. smh poor baby.

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

Finished it! I gave it 3 stars. Would have given it 4 stars for premise and exciting/suspenseful bits, but I didn't warm up to the characters at all. I thought it was weird how they are marketing this as romantic (with the cover and the description: Now Amy must race to unlock Godspeed's hidden secrets. But out of her list of murder suspects, there's only one who matters: Elder, the future leader of the ship and the love she could never have seen coming) yet I didn't feel the 'love' between them at all. Elder seems only interested in her because she has red hair and boobs and I never once had the idea that Amy was googly-eyed over him. More like thought of him as a (potential) ally. If anybody was catching her interest it would be harley imo.

Personally I think it would have made for a more interesting story if Elder would have been more harder or more cooler. Most of the time he seemed more like a confused child (And he was always going on about protecting Amy, yet she seemed the more competent one out of both of them?) and it bugged me after a while. I guess with the series going on he'll become more of a leader etc.

Wasn't suprised at all to find out who did it (I guessed it as soon as 'the killer' was introduced) but i relly liked the 'shocking twist' at the end (view spoiler), though (view spoiler)

Also the whole season thing and what happens to the dead bodies is HORRIFYING

message 38: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I also thought they were in love because of proximity rather than choosing a person after meeting several others. However, I really enjoyed the book and can't wait until the next. I do wish there would have been more kissing or whatever to show there is a strong attraction.

I'm currently reading The Host and the 2 main characters in the beginning of the book are Mel and Jared, who think they're the last humans without parasites. He kisses her as soon as he finds out she's still human. They still fall in love and I didn't feel that their relationship was only based on no one else to choose from. I think that Elder was attracted to her looks but there were older women (in their 20s) he could have picked from. Yes, he selfishly made events happen, but I really think he started liking her more and more and vice-versa.

message 39: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 432 comments I'm reading this one with Darcy since the library has exceptional timing. ;)

It wasn't the greatest, but I really liked it. Amy could be frustratingly naive at times, but I think I would have been a bit out of it after being frozen for centuries. She's too much of an idealist, but she works well to help foil Elder.

I picked out a lot of what was going on from the beginning like Carrie mentioned, but some of it I didn't see becuase I thought the author would be a little more subtle, lol! I guess it's a dying art.

message 40: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 432 comments Oh, and why is this in the Author H folder? Am I missing something?

message 41: by Heather (new)

Umm...I'm not really sure. Apparently I just wasn't paying attention and was thinking about Harrison or Hawkins or something. I'll fix it.

message 42: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 432 comments Okey dokey.

message 43: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments As Samantha said, we read this one together, and boy what fun!

Anyway...I had avoided this thread and hearing people talk about this book, so I didn't have any thoughts going in. I found myself asking what I would do in all of these situations. Often I could see both sides. I can see why they instituted things after the plague, but I think they took it too far. Maybe if the Eldest, at that point would have been more moral things wouldn't have changed so much.

The whole season thing was so gross. But even worse when you realize just how much it was engineered.

Overall, I did enjoy the book and look forward to seeing where things go with the next book.

I'm working on this one now. I'm surprised I'm still reading, to be honest. I didn't think I'd get into it since it sounds a little 1984 meets A Brave New World and I hated both of those. I'm amazed that I'm still reading and haven't gotten bogged down with things that annoy me. We'll have to see what I really think when I manage to finish it. =)

message 45: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments Well, I am behind the times when it comes to this book. But, I just finished it and I really liked it. I absolutely think that Elder only liked her in the beginning because of her differences and that she was someone who was actually his age. I definitely saw more of a spark between Amy and Harley but that could have been brought on by (view spoiler)
You know, I just felt badly for both of them all the way through. How lonely must Elder have been for just all of his life? And I really don't think Harley was that good of a friend and we all know how douche-tastic Eldest is. Better be alone than stuck with him.

message 46: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments Did anyone read the sequel? That book was a hard read. I'm not sure if I liked it at all, but I will certainly read whatever comes next.

message 47: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments Has anyone read book 3 yet? I think Amy's dad is such a jerk, but then I'm only on chapter 12.

message 48: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I agree with you Tya! He seems to suffer from "I am in charge, army guy". I hated that he didn't listen to Elder or Amy, discounted them as kids, so their thoughts didn't matter.
